Life Lately

Gosh. It’s been ages since I’ve shown my shadow here on the blog. Well, I’m not going to apologize for the 2,357th time because I can’t seem to find my groove and saying sorry would only proved to be fruitless. I am still unable to find traction in this crazy life I seem to live now. But I think it’s enough that I do find it in me to pop in from time to time.

The Year That Never Happened

Needless to say, my 2017 ended with a weak ‘poof’. I didn’t meet my goal of 150 books. And I barely blogged in the latter half of the year. But despite all that, I’m still pretty happy that I read as much as I was able to. Granted, I’ve done a lot of re-reading old favourites but reading is reading. I would worry when I no longer feel the need to read, period. As such books are still my constant company. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, where I’m going. I always have a book or two within reach. I still visit the bookstore from time to time but because I’ve been so out of the loop, I don’t know what’s out and what’s good nowadays. Hopefully, I’ll be more aware this year.

Still Going

Health-wise, I’m on the latter end of my fitness goal. I have 15 lbs left to lose. I’m down 60 lbs since I started in May. I’m still going doing boot camp classes 4 times a day, 6 days a week. My goal this year is to run. I’ve started running for 20 minutes before and after my classes. I’m hoping to gain enough endurance to bump up my speed (currently at 5.0 on my treadmill). I am at my healthiest I’ve ever been and happiest with my body. I used to be so adverse to selfies, but one of the side effects of weight loss is I’ve gained self confidence. My gym helped me break out of my shell. I put myself out there; I help new members. I gained so many friends just by being a member of my gym. Honestly, it’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. And I’ll forever be grateful.

I’ve lessened my reading goal to 100 instead of 150. Besides the fact that I haven’t got room for more physical books,Β I’m going to be relying heavily on audio books this year. I’ll probably share my year in books sometime in the near future.

Thanks for sticking around.

Your commitment to your fitness and health is SO inspiring, Joy. Way to go??? I don’t know how you do four boot camps/day- I’d be sore 24/7. finding balance is hard work eh? Work, exercise, meals… so much to do so little time. I hope you find a balance that works for you. I’ve missed you, but I am so excited for you!

Joyous Joy, I always loved you just the way you were, but I’m so thrilled that you’re happy with the new you, and that you’ve made lots of new friends. That’s very cool. • I’ve missed you, Joy! <3 It seems like 2017 wasn't a great blogging year for either of us–much more reason to blog wonderfully this year, right? πŸ™‚ And WHOA, 60 lbs is A LOT. I cannot, for the life of me, do any sort of exercise aside from cheerleading (and I get tired VERY easily). 15 lbs is going to be a breeze for you–you're doing great!! <3 <3

Woah, congrats on losing 60 pounds! That’s amazing. I’ve lost about 40 in the past year, which is a big deal for me. I’ve definitely gotten more confidence and I just want to keep up that momentum this year. I’m thinking of joining a gym so I can do more classes (they tend to motivate me more than doing it on my own) and possibly use the treadmill more, since I loved walking and listening to podcasts but it’s way too cold to be walking outside. Plus, I need to get back into the groove. Sigh. At any rate, you are doing wonderful! That’s amazing – go you!

And I think it’s great you are re-reading books. I wish I had more time for that sometimes. Granted, I’m going to re-read the second and third Harry Potter books soon in the illustrated versions, so that’s exciting. I’m hoping to read more of the books I own this year – so not re-reads but still not as many review/ARCs.

  • That is incredible how well you’ve done with your weight loss. I did a lot of revisiting too. There were days where I wanted to be able to listen to an audiobook, without putting a huge amount of energy into. I find it is easier to listen to books I already know. I hope you have a great 2018

That is so, so awesome, Joy! Congrats on your weight loss. That is not an easy feat. Well done! Audio books are awesome for working out as long as you have wireless headphones otherwise it can be a pain at times.Getting lost in a podcast or book when running helps me take my mind off the fact that I hate running. haha. I love how I feel afterwards, but the first 15 minutes for me are the worst. I look forward to your updates this year! Happy New Year!

  • I am glad that you are still doing well here. And I think the gym is the best place to make friends because you have similar goals and can help motivate each other to keep going.

  • L

I’ve been reading a lot of audiobooks lately, so if you need any recs let me know! I’d be happy to help. Congratulations on your fitness goals! I just got back into my groove since having twins.

    Do You Dog-ear?

  • Audio books are my savior. Huge congrats on the 60 lbs!! That is an amazing accomplishment. I gain and lose the same 5 lbs every few weeks. I’m doing A Little Obsessed and moving on to 80 Day Obsession if my back holds out. I am determined to be the strongest momma on my street πŸ™‚

  • You are INCREDIBLE. About your health journey, about your reading life, about her blog skills… everything! <3

    • *your blog skills. (typing with new dog, Maybelline, on my arm…)

  • 60 lbs tells me nothing *checks google* Omg 27 kg! That is amazing!

  • kindlemom1

You are doing incredible Joy and I’m so happy for you, not just because of the weight loss but everything. You even sound (read) like you are so much happier and that is awesome!! Keep it up!
Even though I miss seeing you around as much, I can tell this is what you need right now and how can I not support that? πŸ˜‰ Hope your 2018 is amazing!!

  • Damn Joy! That’s awesome!! I think we go to the same bootcamp franchise (Fit Body) but I am nowhere close to your level of fitness. Luckily, my good friend’s parents own the bootcamp so I feel the pressure to keep going :P.
I gained quite a bit of weight (and have been eating a lot of fast food) the past couple of years so I’m trying to slowly get back into being healthy again.

    • And I would love to hear more about your fitness journey :). Do you do the same workout all 4 times a day?
PS: Ellen and I have had multiple conversations about the serious friend crush we have on you. Just thought you should know, haha.

  • Holy cow, that’s a lot of work outs in a day and a week but go you. You lost 60 pounds? That’s amazing, Joy! I’m so happy for you! You’re gorgeous so you take those selfies!

Happy New Year and I hope 2018 is all you hope it will be. Hugs from California!

  • 60 lbs is absolute incredible Joy, you’ve turned into a fitness guru. As much as I miss you blogging, it’s about damn time you started putting yourself first. You’re a busy mum and taking care of yourself is one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. Your weight loss is inspirational. I plan on doing the same this year. Less online, more offline and definitely more putting myself first as well.

I really miss seeing your face though my darling <3 <3

  • Holy shit. I thought I worked out a lot. Go you! So happy youve found your confidence and I hope you meet your goal soon. I didnt even read 100 books last year and most were audiobooks or rereads so I get you. Life happens and sometimes I didnt feel like reading. Now I do. Forcing it wont help. Hope you find yoir blogging groove back soon Joy. Happy 2018!

  • Karen

    Happy New year!

It sounds like 2017 was good to you even if you didn’t read/blog as much as you would have liked. That’s fine though! You’re out living & enjoying life!

    For What It’s Worth

  • Just remember that muscles weigh more than fat so even if you think you need to lose 15 more, your body is probably already there. I speak from my own two year journey of weight loss-90 pounds-and spending all my time at my gym-a very long time ago now. I was smaller than my sister at the end and still weighed 15 pounds more. I wish I could say I stayed healthy, but my mom died and the gym went by the wayside so I could be with my dad. Life happens. But I am so happy for you! I know you feel and look better and I couldn’t be happier for you! Missed seeing you on the blog but totally understand. πŸ€—

  • Your fitness journey and accomplishments make me SO HAPPY! I’m so proud of you and love that you’re healthy and happy and confident!! You’re amazing. Unfortunately, books aren’t always a priority, and that’s okay. You had a great year!!!

  • Congrats on your fitness journey! You’re so inspiring!

  • I am so happy to hear that things are going so well for you at the gym. You really have a whole lot to be proud of πŸ™‚ You’ll be running marathons before you know it!
