Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley | What to Say Next by Julie Baxbaum | Now I Rise by Kiersten White

I know. I know. I went and thoroughly disappeared on you again. I’m still having the same problems that I’ve been having in the beginning of Summer. Sigh. I’m not having much luck adjusting and juggling all my commitments in one go. I have commitments to you, my dear readers; commitments to the generous publishers who continue to send me books, and commitment to myself to remain sane. This week, I finally found the resolve to divide my time as I see fit. I’m writing this post at 7:22 pm. I gave myself another half an hour to finish this post so I can schedule it for midnight. Then, I’m giving myself another hour to visit your blogs. After that, bed time for me for a quick nap as I have to give my husband a ride to work at 10:30 pm. Then, my actual bed time is at around 11:30 or midnight. I wake up at 5 in the morning the next day to do a back to back boot camp, then home to shower and be out of the house by 8 in the am. Phew.

As you can see, I barely have time to breathe, much less read. I’m at work until 4 in the afternoon, then back to the gym for another back to back boot camp by 4:55. The cycle begins again. So I’m trying out this new thing. Hoping that if I give myself time, I’ll be able to do everything that I’ve been neglecting to do in the last couple of months.

New on My Shelves

I got three books from Penguin Random House which I’m dying to read! However, I don’t know why I received Now I Rise since I avoided it when they sent me an email. I haven’t read the first book and because they’re door stoppers, it might take me a while. Regardless, I’m so freaking excited and thankful for these! I also got No Good Deed (which I reviewed yesterday) from Delacorte Press.

What Have I Been Reading?

Well, too many to mention. Right now, I’m doing my best to finish The One Memory of Flora Banks, then a few other books that I’ve started but haven’t really made any headway. I am, however, ensconced in the world of The Bridgertons by Julia Quinn! Hooray! I’m finally reading some Historical Romance. Actually, I downloaded the audio books. I’m so loving them all, you guys. πŸ™‚

The Beauty and Obese

Just an update on my weight loss journey. I decided to finally get healthy on May 15th. So far, I’ve lost 25 lbs and 2 sizes down. My goal is so far away, but every accomplishment that I make is the fire that continues to guide my way. A couple of months ago, my husband would help me up the three-step stairs in our garage that leads to our mudroom. I’m slow, sluggish and have the tendency to get winded so easily. I’m a different person nowadays. But like I said, I have a long way to go but I like the direction I’m heading.

Thanks again for being here. For wondering where I’ve been. For wanting me to stay. I ask for your patience again as I try to adjust to all these activities.Β

Happy reading, friends!

  • Oh wow! That is amazing and your schedule sounds brutal. You are a trooper. πŸ™‚

  • I’m so happy for you! I’m glad you’re feeling better. Keep up the hard work. Ohh Now I Rise. Love it and the first book. They’re long, but they’re actually fairly quick reads.

  • Your fitness journey looks like it’s going really well, so congrats on that! πŸ˜€ and omg so jealous of the books you’ve received! I can’t wait to read WHAT TO SAY NEXT, especially. I loved TELL ME THREE THINGS, and I’m sure this one is gonna be as good (or even better). Happy reading and have a great week πŸ˜€

  • Sara Walker

I love reading your updates, Joy. And I am so excited about your fitness journey, I feel like I have been on mine for eons- and it’s never ending. You seem to have a lot of discipline (hand some over eh?). I hope you find a balance that works for you and makes your life happier.

  • haha that happens to me – I think “why did they send me this second book in a trilogy when I haven’t even read the first book?” It’s stressful!
I DID read the first book (And I Darken, I think (?) – I find the titles really hard to keep straight) and I actually liked it a lot It’s really well-done for YA historical fiction.

  • Great post! I can definitely relate in the regards to not having time to juggle so many things, but sounds like you’re doing better than I am. You have a system going, and hope it works out enough where you feel balanced. Congrats on your weight loss and best of luck with your overall journey. You can do it!!!

  • Hugs. <3 Lovely post Joy πŸ˜€ I miss you. <3 But totally understand not having much time for anything lately. And I do not blame you at all πŸ™‚ Work and workout and kids and ahh. So so much to do for you. Hugs. <3 No rush at all to blog until you feel you can handle it πŸ™‚ But eee, I am so proud of you for having lost so much already πŸ˜€ And fully jealous, tbh. <3 Wish I could make myself start to get healthy. Ugh. But no.. I don't think it will happen anytime soon, haha :p Anyway. You are awesome Joy. <3

Your schedule is insane! But I am so happy for you! I really need to get back on the horse, so they say. I LOVED What to Say Next. I have Now I Rise and I did read the first one but they are so long I haven’t gotten the nerve to pick that sequel up. lol

  • ChristinaBookAddict

Wow! Your schedule is really full, but congrats on your commitment to health. 25 pounds is awesome. You must feel like a new person. I have done the same thing this year (commitment to myself to get healthy and lose the baby weight) and it’s been one of the best things ever. I am just starting to get into audio books, which I listen to when I exercise. I look forward to more of your reviews and following along on your weigh tloss journey!

  • RO

Girl, mad props for doing double double boot camps! I need to be near you for that extra motivation. I’ve been trying to get healthier too, and have been focused on weight lifting. Kudos on the weight loss, and having such a supportive hubby. Those books look pretty good, but like you, it’s been years since I’ve read a historical romance – but they are definitely on my TBR Pile. Do you, and be you! Hugs…RO

  • Sounds like your schedule is really squeezed tight! A lot of work and doing different things – I can see how reading has fallen by the way-side. I have been reading but my blogging attentions have been entirely distracted. I am glad that you’re making such good progress! That’s brilliant news, Joy πŸ™‚

  • many things for you girl! good luck! and happy reading!

  • Congrats on your weight loss journey.

  • shootingstarsmag

Oh gosh, so much to do in one day! I can understand how it’s difficult to juggle. Do what you can/want and we’ll be here when you post. πŸ™‚ Yay for getting some fun reads in the mail though. I still need to read And I Darken too, but I hear good things – and about the sequel.

  • AHHHH I’m so happy you love the Bridgertons! That’s my FAVORITE historical romance series! You can’t help but fall in love with the family, right??

I’d say your schedule allows for some forgiveness if you don’t get to blogging all of the time! Any day I have to do one thing in addition to going to work, I’m practically overwhelmed. πŸ™‚

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

I’m so excited to see what you make of these new titles! I loved White’s first book in her new series but Now I Rise was a mixed bag for me. I’m currently reading What to Say Next and loving it but I’m super curious about Words in Deep Blue and hoping it’s as fabulous as Crowley’s first book.

You sound incredibly busy so good luck with everything! You’re a super star, Joy!! Can’t believe you’re working on weight loss and having such a busy day AND reading and reviewing so much! It’s so impressive and I wish you the best of luck in everything!

  • Wow Joy that is some crazy schedule! But I’m so glad to hear you’re making progress <3

I really loved Words in Deep Blue, read it in one sitting! Sadly I couldn't get into What to Say Next so I've put it down for now. I do want to give it another try in the future.

  • Just listening to your schedule wears me out. Good for you for sticking with your new routine. I haven’t read any of the books on your pile but I did just buy What to Say Next and might get to it sometime in the near future.

  • kindlemom1

Whew, I’m tired just reading all that you have to do!
Hope you can get a good balance soon, we’ve all missed you!
You are going to love Now I Rise, so much fun and just as good as the first.

  • Karen

I have What to Say Next on my pile for July but I keep getting distracted :-p and I really want to start that White series. I’ve had the first book on my Kindle.

You’re doing amazing! It’s tough when You’re juggling all those things but *high five*!!!

    For What It’s Worth

  • Oh snap, I’m surprised you even managed to get this post up. You’ve got a LOT on your plate and not enough time in the day! I hate when I receive a sequel from a publisher when I haven’t read the first book. Alas, it happens all the time. I either keep it if it sounds good and purchase the first book, or pass it on to a friend who has read the other books. πŸ™‚ Hooray for Julia Quinn! I love her books. It’s been a LONG time since I read one of her books though. I need to remedy this.

  • Wow, go you! That’s awesome that you’re trying to live a healthier life ☺️ I definitely find working out makes me feel so much better!

I have And I Darken out from the library – looking forward to reading it πŸ˜ƒ

  • Omg HR!? For real? Yay, I adore HR, it makes me happy
