Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 208

Eliza And Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia | Letters to the Lost by Bridgid Kemmerer | The Best of Adam Sharp by Graeme Simsion | The Golden House by Salman Rushdie

In the Summer of My Discontent

Hi, guys. I know, I know. I’m still missing in action for most of the week in the blogosphere. I don’t know what tell ya. I can’t bleed a stone. I simply can’t find a good stride between juggling all the things I’ve got going on in my life. Because I’ve been sick, I’ve also missed time so of course, work has been hectic. I’m thankful that I’m still 19 books ahead of my Goodreads challenge, otherwise, that’s another pressure on my shoulders. I know I’m missing out on so many posts but just…thanks for your patience and continued patronage. I appreciate you.

The Beauty and Obese

Meanwhile, I just got my recent fitness assessment and it looks like my hard work for the last month has paid off. I lost 15 lbs and have managed to lose 10% body fat by working out; by walking, and keeping track of my macros. I’m fast becoming a boot camp worshipper and a calorie counter nut job (I’m not even sorry). My goal is to lose 50 lbs by October, but if I keep pace with this kind of weight loss, I might be able to reach my goal even before that. I’m absolutely floored when my trainer told me my new numbers. Even she couldn’t believe it! Especially since I lost 3 points of Visceral Fat in just a month of working out religiously.

Currently Reading

I am in the midst of reading all three books. So far, I can only complain about the repetitiveness of The One Memory of Flora Banks. Otherwise, I’m enjoying them all. I haven’t finished a book for a couple of weeks now. I also attempted to read Dating You, Hating You by Christina Lauren but I returned the audio book. It is not one of their best work, in my opinion.

This Week…

I don’t know, in all honesty. I’m hoping to finish any one of the books above so I can write a review. Otherwise, my priority is to catch up on Bloglovin’. I’m missing so much!

  • Adriana C

I really enjoyed Eliza and her monsters, it was really good. And I canΒ΄t wait to read Missing by Kelley Armstrong.

    Enjoy your reads.

  • Wow, you have definitely done really well when it comes to the fitness part, and the steps as well! You’ve done so well Joy and I’m really proud! Also with your reading challenge, you are nailing it.

  • I say no shame in the blogging! (Maybe that’s to appease myself? I’m not doing well right now either!) It’s not worth it if you don’t feel like it, so blog when you’re ready. πŸ™‚

But congratulations on the fitness! That’s amazing! Seeing the progress makes it all the easier, I think.

  • hope you get well soon. and good job on your life in general ( I don’t really know what else to say, everyone covered it)

  • Awww, well I hope everything is getting better now. And yay! GO YOU!! You can definitely meet that goal by October πŸ˜€ And omg, I can’t wait to read ELIZA AND HER MONSTERS! I looks really good. Looks like you’ve got some good books ahead of you! Have a great week and happy reading πŸ™‚

  • Precious

Oh my god, yaaaas! Eliza and Her Monsters!! I loved that book to bits! I hope you enjoy it, Joy! Awaiting your review πŸ™‚

    Precious @ Fragments of Life

  • Jazmen Greene

Go, you. You’re doing great with your weight loss. I’m sure that feels great. Good luck with that and all the reading. I recently finished The Missing, wasn’t a fan hope you wind up enjoying all of it!

  • Wow – losing 15 pounds is a huge accomplishment! Sorry about Dating You, Hating You. Good title, though πŸ™‚

  • Braine Supie

Woot! Woot! Congrats on your weight loss progress πŸ™‚

I love Evelyn Hugo! I’m robbed of words, can’t write a decent review for it.

  • Sara Walker

15lbs!! Joy, that is amazing!! Way to go!!! You must feel absolutely amazing! Keep it up.

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, it’s been rather unpleasant. Hoping to kick it soon. It’s heard to read when there are so many other things taking up time- working out, meal prepping. SO much time.

  • Damn, good on you! You’re clearly kicking ass with your workouts. Much more than I have been lately – still haven’t hit my stride again after a vacation. Good luck with juggling it all! πŸ™‚ I’m excited to hear your take on Missing when you get a chance to review it, because I’ve been eager to read it for a while.

  • shootingstarsmag

I need Eliza and Her Monsters!!!! I’m sorry you were sick – I was sick earlier in the month too. It really does make it hard to get anything done. Don’t worry about it! I’m glad your fitness is doing so well. My weight loss program is going well and I see a nurse Thursday so I think I’ll find out how much fat/inches I’ve lost then. Right now I know I’m down about 41 pounds since beginning of February when I began, so I’m THRILLED about that.

  • Wow congrats on the fitness! How do you know how much fat you’ve lost? I’m curious how people figure that out. I put on about 3lbs recently but I’m not even worried about it because I know it’s muscle cause I’ve been doing a lot of weights but I would like to know how much fat I’ve lost.
I can’t do calorie counting, it’s just not for me but I know it works great for others. Good luck with your goals!

  • Arg, I haven’t checked in on my Bloglovin’ feed in weeks! Big congrats on the health strides. I’m doing PIYO and have restarted on the beach body containers/21 Day Fix after leaping off the wagon and feasting on mac and cheese & red wine. My willpower is not my strong point.

  • kindlemom1

Okay that is seriously awesome Joy and you should be so proud of yourself!! Way to go girl!!

  • Congrats on the progress! I’m also trying to lose at the moment, and get fit again after my ankle incident.

Also, you are way more active on here than I am – your ‘quiet’ is my ‘super-active’ haha. But I’ll always stop by to see what you have to say, no matter how frequent your posts. <3

  • That is fantastic on the health front! Way to go, you should be so proud!

I love the cover of Letters to the Lost. I’ve been curious about it.

  • sarabara081 @ Forever 17 Books

Congrats on the weight loss! I am super behind on checking out everyone’s blog posts. We got a pool (one of those small ones you put up yourselves) and it has taken up all our spare time. I hope you finish a book soon and love it!

  • ChristinaBookAddict

Congrats on your weight loss. Go you! I wear a Fitbit as well and am lucky to get 10,000 steps a day even when working out…so your numbers are super impressive! I hope you are enjoying Evelyn Hugo- love that book!

  • I hate to hear that you have been sick. Catching up can be stressful. Congrats on all of your awesome results! I really need to follow your lead. I know it feels good to see the numbers you want to see. Have a great week!

  • It sounds like your hard work is really paying off and I am so proud of you! Good on you girl <3 Psst, nothing wrong with being a calorie counter. I used to feel self-conscious because in the shop I would spend ages checking the sugar content on everything I was buying, but now I just either know or do it anyway xD It's going into my body so no harm done to check πŸ˜€ I hope you can catch up with everything else that needs doing this month too!

  • That’s absolutely brilliant Joy, that’s almost 7kgs in a single month. Holy shit. It’s so rewarding to see the hard work paying off. Is it your exercise regime or a mixture of exercise and diet? I need to get fit. Being winter, already just doing vigorous housework leaves me all huffy and puffy. I seem to lose fitness as soon as the cold weather hits. I hope you’re feeling a bit better now Joy and can get some reading time in <3 <3

  • I am waiting for me to start doing more, right now I am only allowed to take walks.
    So go you πŸ˜€

  • I really enjoyed Eliza—hope you do too! Great job on your weight loss. I’ve been doing much better about working out lately too, but I don’t have a fitness trainer or anything like that, and my scale is out of batteries, so I haven’t even weighed myself! In some ways, I think it’s better that way, though. I don’t like when I get too obsessed with the numbers. But if it’s working well for you, then that’s perfect!

  • Congratulations on the weight loss and good job on the steam you’re making with your work outs! That’s awesome. I really need to get my life together and start up again but I have every excuse in the book right now. Reading your post has definitely inspired me so thanks for that!

You’ll get everything figured out, I have every faith! Have a great week, Joy!

  • YAAAY πŸ˜€ Congrats on the weight thing. <3 So awesome. You are amazing Joy πŸ˜‰ Wish I could be that awesome too, haha. One day πŸ˜€ And aw, I'm sorry you have been sick : Hope you are feeling better sweetie. <3 No need to rush with the blog at all πŸ™‚

  • Karen

It’s summer – go have fun or relax or boot camp your bad self!

We’re still here and I’ve noticed most people aren’t even blogging regularly anymore. I think we’re all in the same mindset these days.

    For What It’s Worth

  • That is amazing, Joy!! I’m so happy for you and I’m wishing you all the luck with the rest of your weight loss journey. If ever you need some motivating words, tweet me!
Sorry to hear about Dating You, Hating You. I was kinda excited about it, but also a bit wary. All the reviews have been saying how it’s not great though. I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of the TJR book!
Have a great week ahead, Joy! πŸ™‚

  • Congratulations on the weight loss. You are doing great, although I am sorry to hear you’ve been sick! I keep starting books and not finishing them. All I seem to want to read lately is contemporary romance which I can’t review on the site. So I can relate. Of course I’m not 19 books ahead of my GR goal. 6 or 7 maybe πŸ€—

  • good luck for everything and happy reading!
