Slow As Molasses

Another sad, sad reading week here for me. Honestly, I’m disgusted with myself. So far, I’ve only finished one book in the last two weeks. Which sucks because I have so many books in my to-be-reviewed pile. In an attempt to spark some reading inspiration, I went to the bookstore yesterday just to see if it would make me want to get back to reading again. Wish me luck that it will do the trick.

On A Health Kick

Still on my health kick. I’ve realized a couple of things about why dieting never worked for me in the past. I’ve been so restricted to salads and chicken breasts. Time and again, I get bored, hungry, then quit. This time around, I decided that I can’t do this shit again. So anytime I get a craving for specific food, I find a healthier recipe. This weekend, I made pesto sauce. I used avocado instead of olive oil. I made some spirals of zucchini, added shrimp and cherry tomatoes. It was divine! If you have any other healthier alternatives to some decadent food let me know!

Fit Readers

I’ve been doing double fit body boot camps for two weeks now and I’m loving it. I’ve been sick this week but I didn’t let that stop me from working out. I have a fitness assessment on Thursday so I’m excited to see any progress. It’s been a whole month since I started this journey.

Well, this is it for me this week. Let’s hope I find something good to read soon. Sigh.

  • I’m so proud of how you have been doing with your fitness journey and I’ve only been following it through here on your blog! It’s so important to mix it up when it comes to eating clean. Otherwise, I would probably be bored as well XD I hope the reading comes back to you!

  • WHOOO 😀 You are amazing at the working out Joy. <3 Huuugs. Wish I could be this awesome, hih 😉 Wishing you the best of luck with it all. <3 But aw, I'm sorry you still aren't reading much 🙁 I hope you'll feel like it soon. <3 I read just about nothing in April, so I totally feel you 🙂

  • I love salads & chicken breasts. Those are my main eats, but made in many different ways. ❤️ Keep up the health kick.

I hope the bookstore trip works! I LOVE zoodles! I used to make lasagna with zucchini strips instead of the noodles too and it’s amazing how great it tastes!

  • You’ve been doing such a great job with being healthy, Joy! Yes, salads and chicken can make any women fall off the wagon. Boring! Plus, you can have a lot of calories in a salad, too. If you love Italian food like I do this: http://www.slenderkitchen.com/recipe/zucchini-and-ground-turkey-pizza-boats

is a wonderful low carb/calorie choice. I use Rao’s Marinara sauce from the store. It’s by far the best Marinara sauce I have ever eaten. Not cheap, but worth it! You can get it from Amazon if your local stores don’t carry it.

Hope you get out of your reading funk! 🙂

  • Yay for eating healthy and working out! That meal sounds absolutely divine. I hope you get some reading groove back on soon; mine is pretty much shot, too.

I’ve been in a somewhat of a reading slump myself. It kind of sucks. I to have been trying to be mindful of my food and to workout every day- it’s hard man. I love food and I get bored w/ my workouts. I need to try and be more diligent in finding healthier recipes- I’ve been enjoying your food pics on Instagram. They’ve been inspiring me!

Hope you read something soon that makes you want to read all the books!

  • shootingstarsmag

I hope you get back into the reading groove soon! 🙂 You’re doing SUCH a great job on your fitness and healthy eating though. That’s awesome. I need to start making recipes again – I haven’t really focused on that lately and I’ve been eating the same things. I find that diabetic cookbooks are nice b/c they give you healthier ways to make things.

  • I decided to get off of my butt and excercise this past week. It was really hard. I am going to try to eat better as well but mainly I am working to do a better job with portion control and not eating just to have something to do. Enjoy your new books. I thought Windfall was pretty cute.

Good luck with your bookstore trip and with your monthly fitness check in, 😀

  • I love that you are in a healthy journey…I am as well and even though its not easy its been fun learning so much. If you are looking for fun and creative and delicious recipes have you tried out Skinny Taste? She wrote a couple of cookbooks, but she also has free recipes on her website. http://www.skinnytaste.com/. Many of these are good for families as well. But I also couldn’t just do chicken and salads all of the time, man so hard would that be. I need diversity in my cooking or I just get bored and want to just quit.

I recently had a reading slump and slowly getting back into the reading again, but I have been super stressed out the past month or so, and I just focused on re reading my favorites. But it can be so frustrating and I wish that it would never happen.

  • Karen

Maybe you just need the break from reading. It happened to me for almost two years and I kept fighting it. I finally gave in and just did other things. It’s weird how guilty you feel at first but then I slowly came back into it and I’m loving it again.

As for dieting – I did the same thing. I indulge sometimes but usually make healthy versions of what I love. I started craving the healthier food after not too long.

    For What It’s Worth

  • I’m so sorry about your reading slump. I hate when I get into those, it’s so frustrating, especially when all my books are taunting me. I hope you’re able to get into a book soon. I’m really excited to read When it’s Real! I hear it’s really good.
On the flip side – yay for your health kick!! Your activity for the week is awesome!! I know what you mean about getting bored with healthy food. I was on a salad kick for a year, and then got bored with it and went to deli sandwiches. You have to switch it up a little so you don’t fall back into old habits. Great job sticking with it!!

  • Yay! When It’s Real. I hope you like that one. That’s awesome that you’re discovering fun and healthy way to still eat the food you crave. I thought dieting was all about salads too, but it’s acutally about portion control. With finals I have been stress eating, but I’ll be getting back to my normal healthier food options as from next week. Though probably not for another week, because my mom is planning on feeding me when I go home! 😉
    Have a great week, Joy!

  • Great FitReaders week. I know exactly what you mean about dieting. I have the same issues. You can only eat so many salads. I’ve been having the same problems with reading. If it weren’t for audiobooks, I would have only read two novellas in the past month. It is supposed to rain all week, so I’m hoping I can finish my current read. Have a great week.

  • Good fitreaders week 🙂

  • SOme nice books for you! Happy reading!
