Life Lately: A Very Slow Month

Oh, man. May has been insufferably slow here on the blog. This is what happens when you have an obsessive personality. You can only focus on one thing and one thing only. Sigh.

So I’m not sure if you’re following me on Instagram but I mentioned how I found my fitness motivation again a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been eating healthy, going to boot camps,Β and walking whenever I get the chance. I’ve been pretty active. But now, my reading has suffered. I seriously have not picked up anything of substance for a couple of weeks now. And even though I’ve read a few good books that I’ve not reviewed, writing chops have taken leave as well. Oh, the struggle.

But it is June! I’m trying to figure shit out. I’m trying to make use of my time properly. My workouts are scheduled and I figure, if I can do the meal preps for the week on weekends, I might have some time to read and blog after the gym. Let’s hope.

Sadly, I only read a few books in May.

  • Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel (Themis Files, #2)
  • A Quick Bite by Lynsay Sands (Argeneau, #1)
  • The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
  • Ruby by Cynthia Bond
  • Exit West by Hamid Mohsin
  • Library Principle by Helena Hunting
  • Felony Ever After by Helena Hunting
  • Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave

Again, my apologies for being scarce everywhere. I do hope June will be better. Let me know what you got up in May, and thanks for your continued patronage!

  • I’m glad that you’ve been doing better with your fitness—I’ve been doing a bit better myself lately. Trying to find balance is the tough thing.

  • Greg Hill

My reading was down in May too- and I can’t use exercising more as an excuse. I just… read less lol. I am curious what you thought of Waking Gods though… I read the first one.

  • tfw Joy says she “only” read 8 books in May and one of them is over 700 pages….
Keep up the good work with the fitness – I do follow you on Instagram and am enjoying the tasty food pics…

  • oooh I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Waking Gods! I’ve been in an active mindset lately too, but it’s good because I feel mentally and physically better.

  • My reading hasn’t suffered, but my reviewing has-I am about four or five reviews behind. I am away from home and left the only glasses that I can see the computer well with at home-for three weeks. Frustrating! But you are doing so good with the healthy eating and exercising so you do have something good to show for it. There really is something to be said for that! Here’s hoping that June is better for you!

  • My reading has suffered a bit since I took up running. I have to balance the extra time spent with reading and family and sleep. I totally understand the struggle. It’s a small price to pay for feeling good. Keep rocking those workouts!

  • Like you, May has been the slowest month for reading and blogging. If you listen to audiobooks, I highly recommend you listen to them when you do exercise πŸ™‚ And I’m glad you’re eating healthy!! I’m starting to do that myself.

  • Huuugs. <3 No need to apologize for being busy πŸ˜€ I'm so happy you are doing something that you like. <3 Wish I could find it in me to start working out, hahaha. But I'm too lazy for that :p But I know that when you are busy with other stuff, there is no time for reading πŸ™‚ But hope you'll find the want and time to read soonish. <3 Hugs. Hope you are doing the best πŸ˜€ Eee. And aw, you still read a bunch πŸ˜€

  • Congrats on getting into a health kick. I’ve been telling myself I’ll start to workout soon and it never happens. Hopefully in June you can balance out the two.
Wishing you the best of luck πŸ™‚

  • Good on you for getting so into your fitness game! I wish I could say the same, but it’s a good week when I make my regular gym times and don’t indulge in cake. LOL. Whenever I get out of the habit of writing reviews I find it really difficult to write the first couple again, but I always get my mojo back. I’m sure you will too! πŸ™‚

  • Rachel

I found when I started working out my reading suffered, but it’s a balance between the two, and I love going to the gym that much that I’m just dealing with it. That’s still a really impressive number of books to read in a month! Between work, freelancing, working out, and exam prep, I’m barely reading anything at the minute πŸ™ R xx

  • I feel like I was also pretty scarce when it comes to blogging last month, but hopefully I can jump back to it this month. I just feel like things have been running away from me. But this motivation for fitness and eating healthy is great! Go for it girl πŸ˜‰

  • It’s been slow for me too. But yay for being healthy! Keep it up!

  • ah yes it is always complicated to do everything at once

  • I know what it’s like to get hit with the fitness bug! I listen to books while I walk or run. Two birds, one stone, lol! I have wireless earbuds for my phone so it makes it less awkward. So happy you’re getting more healthy, Joy! πŸ™‚

  • May sucked for me, too. I think I read like…4 books. On the plus side I’ve read two today, haha. Yay for fitness and healthy eating!

  • shootingstarsmag

It can be difficult to find time for everything. That’s great that you’re being more healthy though! I need to find ways to be more active, but the eating healthy is going well.

I obsess over things too hon. It sounds like you’re having a good obsession and getting healthy. You’re reading will be fine and we will be here =)

  • Jasprit

Joy don’t worry about it, I’ve been barely posting and commenting on the blog lately either, I have been reading a bit, but I’ve become addicted to watching all the shows lately, and trying to balance that with going gym and work is super hard! But I hope you can get back to all the books in June! Happy reading! πŸ™‚

  • Karen

    The struggle is real lol

Eh…sometimes you need to dive into a new thing and then it evens out later.

    For What It’s Worth

  • That’s great that you’re more active and getting healthy. Take pride in that. I’m sure that your reading and blogging will pick up again and I’ll be here, reading your posts when you do. I hope you have an amazing June, Joy! Hugs from California!

  • ChristinaBookAddict

Great job being motivated with your fitness. I try to workout five times a week and it definitely cuts into reading time. I sometimes will read on the stationary bike or the treadmill if I am not doing anything too strenuous. Netflix has also cut into my reading time. Let’s hope we find more time in June!

  • sarabara081 @ Forever 17 Books

Fitness is a good thing to find motivation in! I lost mine but I’m hoping it comes back soon. Even on your lower reading months they are probably still higher than me. lol

  • I tend to obsess over one thing at a time as well. I can’t do anything just a little. It is all or nothing with me. Fitness is a wonderful thing to be focused on. I hope you have a wonderful June!

  • kindlemom1

Good for you though, fitness and health really are so much more important and you’ll fit reading in or maybe audio books if they work for you?

  • Good for you finding your fitness motivation, Joy! If you want home-video workout recs let me know. πŸ™‚
My May was the opposite in terms of reading. It’s the most I’ve read this year and I’m thrilled.
Hope you’ll read some terrific books in June!

I can actually relate, Joy. Been trying to eat a little more healthy, but even though I’ve stepped up the activity level, I need to be doing a whole lot more. What have I been obsessed with lately? Coupon shopping, and getting freebies! I did finish 2 books, but really need to catch up. Hugs…

  • Better luck in June πŸ™‚
