Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 204

Yesterday by Felicia Yap | Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan | The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid | The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones | The Blood Miracles by Lisa McInerney | Missing by Kelley Armstrong

Hiya!

Can you believe that my last Hoarders post was about a month or so ago? I haven’t bought a physical book in a long time to the greatest relief of my floor joists and my husband! Haha. However, I haven’t stopped stocking up on e-books that are entirely inappropriate for the younger audience. Hehehe. Anyway, I griped and complained about the lack of book mail in my house lately then,Β all of a sudden I get several packages all at once all thanks to the wonderful people of Simon & Schuster Canada, Penguin Random House Canada, and HBG Canada. I’m so excited to read these!

Last Week

Ruby
by Cynthia Bond

Publication Date: Feb 10th, 2015
Rating: 2 out of 5 Stars

I had a tough time with this book. I was not in the right frame of mind when I read it so my judgment may be a little unfair. Honestly? It’s a tough book to read, to begin with. Couple that with my maudlin mood and it only made my experience worse. Ruby’s story filled me with so much misery that I couldn’t appreciate the beautiful writing. I might attempt to review this at some point.

Exit West
by Mohsin Hamid
Publication Date: March 7th, 2017
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

This was also another weird book. But I like how Mr. Hamid gave us a different perspective on the refugee crisis. Some would accuse him of being naive and careless with such a relevant and real global problem but I liked his take on it. Exit West is full of hope in a future when we can live in a world where accepting refugees in our homes is aΒ normal thing.

Daddy’s Best Friend
by London Hale
Publication Date: May 2nd, 2017
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Confession: I unlink my social media accounts in Goodreads anytime I read and rate a book with a cringe-worthy title. This way, my family, and friends wouldn’t know the extent of my depravity. Want to know what the title of the next book to this series? DILF. DILF, yo. Lol. Incidentally, it came out yesterday but I’ve yet to read it. Anyway, it was fun. Lots of smexy times.

RAMBLING ON…AND ON… AND ON…

  • I’m slowly getting used to my husband’s new hours at work (he works the graveyard shift now and I FUCKING HATE IT).
  • Keanu Reeves walked by me yesterday (he was filming a movie in our hotel) and I didn’t have my camera with me.
  • I’m thinking of joining this FITBODY BOOTCAMP.
  • Movies I recently saw: The Wall (Matt Damon) and Maximum Ride (James Patterson YA series). Β BARRY (A movie about Barrack Obama’s struggle with his ‘lack of blackness’ as a young man.)
  • Food I’m currently obsessing over: Cherry tomatoes.

Have a great week, everyone! Catch ya later.

  • I’m so excited to read the new Lara Jean book, I’ve been waiting for that one forever. Enjoy!
    Megan @ http://wanderingsofabookbird.blogspot.co.uk/

  • Ugh, the graveyard shift must be tough on him and your time together! Enjoy the new books!

  • OMG MISSING!!! I’ve fallen behind in my Kelley Armstrong books but I really need to catch up. Her books are so good

  • Yaaaas, I just got approved for Rich People Problems, and I’m so, so, so excited to jump back into this crazy world. Bahaha, I don’t even have my social accounts linked on Goodreads, but what you do when you read a smutty book makes me giggle πŸ˜› I would totally do the same thing, especially since my boss and other colleagues follow me on Twitter.

Omg Keanu Reeves! That’s so awesome! You think they would close off the are for filming though. How close did you get to him?!

  • Greg Hill

I thought Missing was pretty good! And Keanu… I always think of Point Break lol.

Laughing about Daddy’s Best fRiend ha ha!

I don’t think I’ve seen a movie in ages (does Netflix count?)

  • That is exactly why my Goodreads doesn’t post to anything else! It’s one thing for bookish friends and even just regular friends to know all about what I’m reading, but I’m friends with my grandparents on Facebook, and I’d rather not have them see the historical romances I’m reading–just to keep conversations un-awkward. πŸ™‚

But a happy and sad woo at the no book buying! It’s hard! Getting review mail is the best way to make you feel better, though. New books–but they’re FREE!

  • I want to read Missing. I’m loving Kelley Armstrong’s Casey Duncan series and would like to read more from her. I just bought Daddy’s Best Friend last night! Lol! I know what you mean about keeping these kinds of titles from the eyes of family! I have family (judgmental) out there I don’t want seeing my racier reads. I’ve blocked them on Goodreads, but who knows what they can see.

Bootcamp? Lately, I’m just happy to make my steps because I hurt my back. Hasn’t been right for 3 weeks! Sorry to hear your hubby is working graveyard! That can mess with everyone’s routine.

  • Those graveyard shifts are brutal. My husband has been working it for over ten years now and I still struggle to get up in the middle of the night with him. I go to bed as early as possible to compensate but with winter coming it’s a bitch. I found arming the house alarm at night helped me sleep.

I really need to start the Lara Jean series. I bought the first one recently and need something cute and fluffy in my life.

  • Lack of blackness, the irony because the Right only remembers him as black forgetting that his mother is white. Smh

  • RO

Isn’t it cool how you can think about something, and it actually shows up or happens? I’m strictly a book in hand person, so no eBooks for me. Years ago, I did used to read a lot of erotic romance that way, though. Kudos on the new haul. Hugs…

OMG I love that you unlink your social media accounts for certain books. HAHA That’s hilarious and pretty perfect. I purposely don’t link Goodreads to my personal Facebook account for that very reason. I’d so forget to switch if I used your method. lol Keanu Reeves walked by you?! I’d die!

  • Daddy’s Best Friend is a CRINGEWORTHY title indeed. ….. I may read it.

  • I absolutely laughed out loud at your confession re: smutty books. I don’t like to give RL people the name of my blog in case they see all the PNR I consume! #awkward

  • Cherry tomatoes have made an appearance in at least three of our meals I’ve made so far this week. I approve of them so much πŸ˜€ And I think that fitbody camp might be a good idea! Yay for publishers sending new books so you can finally have some book mail to enjoy πŸ˜€

  • They’re all new to me

  • Hahahhahha but Daddy’s Best Friend is my favorite title for a book EVER. I do remember when I first saw it, I was like “whut”, but seriously no judgment whatsoever. I mean it does sound like a great book!

  • My kindle is a treasure trove of NSFW reads, too. πŸ˜‰

Ooh, how did you like the Maximum Ride movie? That series was one of the first I read of my own accord.

  • Ooo, let me know what you think of Always and Forever, Lara Jean. I’ve never met/encountered a celebrity so I think it’s pretty cool that you got to see Keanu Reeves up close. And I love cherry tomatoes even though I’m not crazy about fruits and veggies.

  • I know. I had a book lull as well. However, it is good for me as I seem to be struggling for time lately. YaY! That you got some book mail. πŸ™‚ I do have to say that is a cringe-worthy title and it is funny you unhook social media for it. No one in my family pays attention to what I do and they think me depraved anyway. LOL

Btw, you should have totally said… “DUUUDE!” or something as sensical as that to Keanu. LOL How was the Wall. I didn’t want to see that one but still want to know your take on it.

  • Yay πŸ˜€ Love reading about what you are doing lately. <3 All the hugs sweetie πŸ™‚ And YAY for finally getting all the publisher books πŸ˜€ That's the best mail. <3 Hope you love it all Joy πŸ˜‰ I have read Missing; which I enjoyed, but didn't love :p But the mystery was good πŸ˜‰

  • Yay for book mail! How cool is it that Keanu Reeves walked right by you? My husband worked the graveyard shift for a while. I liked it more than when he worked 2nd shift but not by much. It is hard when your schedules don’t cross often.

  • oh wow!! what an exciting week πŸ˜€ Reeves? lucky you. I am also curious about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

  • P.S: Awesome encounter! I absolutely love Keanu! Did you like Matt Damon’s movie? I liked the first 30 mins and then it just sort of got blah to me.

  • They all look like interesting reads. I still need to start that To All the Boys I’ve Loved series. Nice short reviews. Too bad you didn’t get into Ruby. Hate when the misery bars you from enjoying great writing among other things. That last book though lol. I’m curious about that particular series now πŸ™‚

  • ChristinaBookAddict

You’ve got some great books! I really enjoyed Always and Forever, Lara Jean. So sad that the series is over! Sorry to hear about your husband’s new work hours. That’s a bummer. That is pretty cool about Keanu Reeves!! I hope you have a great week.

  • I admit that I was a little curious about those DILF books but in the end, I wasn’t curious enough to commit to or buy them. I’ll also admit that I was surprised to see them on your blog but I’m glad that you enjoyed them. No judgments here! Haha.

Sucks about your hubby’s new work hours. That must suck for him and for you. Is it temporary or permanent?

That’s awesome that you saw Keanu Reeves.

I’m looking forward to reading Always and Forever, Lara Jean. I’m hearing loads of good things about it.

Happy reading and I hope you have a great week, Joy!

  • I think I need that Daddy’s Best Friend book but I might need its sequel DILF more, lol. My son works the night shift sometimes at a hotel and it wreaks havoc on his mood. Good luck to you πŸ˜‰

  • shootingstarsmag

haha that’s funny about turning your Goodreads notifications off with certain books. I think about that sometimes just saying I read a certain book, because of certain people that follow my reviews. I don’t post to social media though. LOL

Oh boo to your husband’s hours. I’m glad you’re adjusting some, but that’s still awful!

  • Karen

My husband worked night shift for most of our marriage. He’s on days now and it’s totally confusing me lol

    There’s a Maximum Ride movie????

And I totally wet crazy Kindle buying this week. Several of my favorite authors released new books this week and I fell down the rabbit hole. On the plus side they’ve all been great so far.

    For What It’s Worth

  • kindlemom1

I’ve been trying to cut down too but you know how that goes. πŸ˜‰ Congrats on the new additions!

  • Keanu Reeves!!! That’s awesome!!
Great book haul. I’m anxious for your thoughts on the new TJR book. I haven’t read it, yet.

  • LOL. Oh that dilf title
