Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 200

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner | Love And First Sight by Josh Sundquist | The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sรกenz | Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop

Hey, all!

How have you all been? Thank you for visiting the blog last week. Truly appreciative of your visits and comments. ๐Ÿ™‚ I went to the bookstore on Saturday with my husband for the purpose of picking up these four books. Even though I’ve been good, I knew ahead of time that I was going to break my buying ban for these. I’ve read and loved Etched in Bone (because I couldn’t resist downloading the audiobook). I’m so sad it’s over. Though, I feel like it would’ve been better if The Others defeated the HFL movement in this finale instead of in the fourth book. It would’ve been a better series-ender, in my opinion. Regardless, this series is still one of the best things I’ve followed over the years. So sad to see it end. *sobs*

I can’t wait to read the rest as they’ve all been on my wishlist this year. I’m especially pumped for The Inexplicable Logic of My Life.

Ronit & Jamil was an Audible purchase. It was very short (1.29 hours) and the story felt incomplete. Disappointing. I requested Hello, Sunshine from Net Galley. Captive was free on Amazon.

The Girl Before was a fantastic mystery/thriller. Ronit & Jamil was too short. Close Enough to Touch was so good. Etched in Bone was good, too. This is Waterย was an eye-opener. By Your Side was meh.

That’s it for me last week. How was yours?

  • Adriana C

Nice haul! I want to read Anne Bishop series, I keep hearing great things about it.
    enjoy your reads.

  • Etched in Bone! SO GOOD! Personally, I’m glad the HFL plot line was more or less wrapped up in the fourth book because it gave the characters time in the final book to recover from it and grapple with the post-HFL vs. Others world, but I completely see what you mean about a more dramatic series ender. What a bummer about Ronit and Jamil, I had no idea it was so short!

  • I think you’re right about Etched in Bone, but still, I loved it! Can’t get enough of Simon and Meg! I’ve seen good things about Close Enough to Touch.

  • All the hugs. <3 Hope you are doing good sweet girl ๐Ÿ˜€ Yay for pretty books. They all look gorgeous ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy reading Joy. <3

  • I’m so happy you loved The Girl Before!!!! That’s one of my fave 2017 reads. I agree on By Your Side. I wish it had been better. I don’t really go to the book store because it’s an hour and a half away and because the books are crazy expensive! I prefer to buy from Amazon.

  • Ha, I adored and was shattered by Goodbye Days. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts! Have Etched in Bone next up on my reading pile – really bummed the series is ending – the worldbuilding and tension was just so good.

  • I liked By Your Side okay but compared to her other books, yeah it was pretty meh. Ha! Hello, Sunshine looks like something I’d be interested in reading though I’ll wait for your review (cause you are going to review it, right??) to see for sure.

    Have a great week, Joy!

  • I’m still sad that By Your Side was lame, I love her books but I think I’ll just be skipping this one. Man,I haven’t been to the bookstore in so long, I wonder if they still have any open left in my town. Happy reading!

  • I can’t wait for The Inexplicable Logic of My Life, I need that one so baaaaaaaaaadly! I don’t have much luck with Kasie West books either for some reason. They’re lovely and fluffy and all warm and cosy and then she always seems to throw in an extra bit of drama that throws it all out of whack. Whhhhy. WHHHHHHHY! I’m so glad you enjoyed The Others finale. I have one left to buy and then I can binge the series. You’re such an enabler Joy ๐Ÿ˜€

    • It was a little too High School Musical for my taste. I’ve come to the conclusion that this is where Kasie’s books and I must part ways. Yasssss on binge reading The Others. I sure hope you’ll love them as much as we, the fans of the series, have. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • So many books read! Shame that you didn’t entirely love By Your Side, it’s a book that got quite a bit of hype from many people.

    • Sigh. It happens. I shouldn’t have expected much – totally my fault. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Close Enough to Touch is on my TBR. Now that that Bishop series is complete, I think I’ll be listening to it!

    • It’s sooo good! I hope you’ll enjoy it, Amanda!

  • Greg Hill

Glad you got some good reads! The Inexplicable Logic does sound good.

I’ve been curious about The Girl Before too.

    • I think you’ll enjoy The Girl Before, Greg. Hope you’ll get to read it soon!

  • I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Love and First Sight, so I am glad you were able to pick that one up. I can’t wait to read that one and the new Benjamin Alire novel. And I’m sure you’ll love the new one by Jeff Z as well. I’ve been going through my mock exams all week. Stressful and not exciting haha. No reading time whatsoever, unless you count textbooks.

    • I can’t wait to read it! I have this thing for deaf, mute, or blind characters in books. I love reading about how they manage with their disability. It sounds like this is infused with humour, so bonus!

  • shootingstarsmag

Glad you got some nice books at the bookstore! I really want to read The Inexplicable Logic of My Life. I hope you enjoy it. Bummer Ronit and Jamil wasn’t very good – it sounded like a good one.

    • It does! Like Romeo and Juliet but with no ending. So yeah. Incomplete.

  • I didn’t realize that Etched in Bone was the end of the story until I saw a review this morning. Nooo! I am not wanting this to end. I liked The Girl Before as well and I have By Your Side on my shelf (actually my daughter’s) but I don’t know when I will get to it.

    • It is! But I heard a rumor that she’s writing more books in the same universe, so *fingers crossed* let’s hope!

  • Oh several of those books I want. I’m still on the second book of the Ann Bishop series but so glad you enjoyed. I also want to read The Inexplicable Logic of My Life.

    • Gasps! I can’t believe you haven’t read The Others, Melissa. I’m surprised! They’re really good, so I hope you’ll get to them soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • sarabara081 @ Forever 17 Books

I definitely need to check out these Anne Bishop books. I see them everywhere but haven’t read any! Maybe this summer now that the series is complete. I need to know how The Inexplicable Logic of My Life is. I just read his Aristotle and Dante book and really liked it and he is coming to my town in May so I’m wondering if I should grab a copy first.

    • Yassss, girl. You need to read them. I don’t follow too many UF/PNR but this one was such a delight to read!

  • It seems not a lot of people loved By Your Side, I read P.S I Like You and not sure if I should read this one now, since I really loved the other. Lovely new additions. I’ve been thinking of breaking the bank a little too, but maybe not right now

    • Ugh. I, too have P.S. I Like You but I haven’t read it yet. I think I’m going to read it this weekend just so I can get it off my TBR. I’m going to try not to expect too much.

  • Love the picture you too– so clear and pretty! I need to finish Goodbye Days. I started it a few weeks ago, but got distracted by other stuff ๐Ÿ™ I gotta finish it because it was one of the ones I’ve been super excited about for 2017. Also, Hello Sunshine looks so cute!!

    • Thank you, Michelle! Hahaha story of our lives. I know what being distracted by other things is like. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!

  • I had a bit of a dnf week ๐Ÿ˜‰ But that was good! I need to get rid of crappy books before the baby comes

    • I saw! Man, I have one book that’s been trying to read for monthssssss now. Ugh. I really should cut my losses.

  • Karen

I haven’t read Kasie West yet but everyone LOVES her books. Sorry this was meh for you.

I have Captive too but I keep forgetting to read it lol

    Karen @For What It’s Worth

    • I used to love her books, but lately, they’ve been duds. :/

  • I can’t wait to start The Others series! The Girl Before sounds great. I’m looking forward to reading your review. Close Enough To Touch sounds interesting as well.
I hope you enjoy them. Happy reading. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • ChristinaBookAddict

I am so excited to check out Hello, Sunshine. I usually enjoy Howland’s novels. I look forward to your feedback for West’s novel. The last one I read was just ok. Have a great week!

    • I haven’t read any of her books, so I’m looking forward to reading Hello, Sunshine. I think I have Nantucket Blues somewhere…

  • Ahh Goodbye Days! ๐Ÿ˜ I have it on my Kindle waiting to be read but I really want to buy it (and The Serpent King) in hardcover! Enjoy!

    • I hear it’s so angsty. *sobs* Anxious to read it but also scared. Eeep. The Serpent King was sooo good!

  • *sobs*
YES, I’m so sad about that the Others is over. I agree with you about the HFL story line. It should have ended in book 4, but I’m still so obsessed with this series and I’m going to need the spinoff ASAP.
OK that’s it! I need to get Close Enough to Touch. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it. And sorry you felt meh about By Your Side, but I’m also glad because lol I felt the same way and was feeling lonely in my black sheepness over that one.
I hope you have a good week ahead, Joy! <3

    • Right? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love this series to pieces. But it all seems so anti-climactic to be honest. I’m curious as to why she ended that plot line in the fourth book instead of in the finale.

  • RO

You’ve got a great mix of books there! Your hubby is always so supportive of your love for books, which I think is so cool. Hope all is well with you and the family! Hugs…

    • Yeahhhh, he’s the best. ๐Ÿ™‚ That man’s patience knows no bounds. x

  • I need to read a Jeff Zentner book asap. I’m so glad you liked Close Enough to Touch. Such a great book!!

    • Yassss! You should read The Serpent King if you haven’t. It’s sooo good!

  • yay for the Bishop one! happy reading!

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

I am so excited for The Inexplicable Logic…! And I’m so glad you enjoyed Etched in Bone! I’m hoping to see more of Simon and Meg in the spin-off series! Great post, Joy, and I hope you have a great reading week ahead!

    • Wouldn’t that be awesome?! Also want to see a Nathan story somewhere and Skippy. Oh, that pup melts my heart. <3

  • It’s nice when you can make a plan to break your ban. ๐Ÿ˜€ Well, at least we’ll get more books in The Others series, even if it’s different characters. Happy reading, Joy!

    • I can’t wait! Is there a date when the next book in this universe will be out yet?
