On the Night Table [45]: March TBR

Hello.

Every month, I always try to make it a point to tackle review copies first before anything else. March is no different. Aside from Moon Called by Patricia Briggs, the books on my pile are for review that’s been sitting on my shelf for a time now.

Nostalgia by MG VassanjiΒ won the Governor General’s award for literature here in Canada. It’s about a man who is suffering from Leaked Memory Syndrome. It’s when memories of his past lives come seeping out from the deep confines of his brain. It has such an interesting premise, but I must admit that it’s intimidating me a little bit.

I’ve decided to re-read Moon Called by Patricia Briggs in an effort to get this series off my TBR. I own the first 6 books and since this series has been widely loved by practically everyone I know, I thought it was highΒ time.

I’m a huge fan of suspense/mysteries, so The Girl Before is right up my alley. Looking forward to reading this one.

I’m more than halfway done with I See You and enjoying it so far. I had assumed that this book will not be out until April, for some reason so I’m a little late in posting my review.

READ LAST WEEK

Seven Days of You was cute. Oryx And Crake was insane. Act Like It was pretty good but not as good as Pretty Face.

So this has been my week. I’ve been relatively absent from the blog for no other reason than tiredness and laziness. I’ve written a few posts to get me through the week, though so I’ll try to be on schedule this time.

Have a great week, everyone!

  • I’ve been really absent because of exams… but likewise, I am trying to prioritise review copies I have been meaning to get around to reading for a while, over my own choice reads. Although I do select what I accept, so they are sorta choice reads in that aspect?

  • Oryx and Crake!! So good! I just FINALLY read the final two books in the series. I loved every one.

  • I haven’t really heard of any of these before, but they do look pretty awesome πŸ˜€ I hope you will love them all a whole bunch. <3 Happy reading Joy πŸ™‚ I hope you are doing good. <3 Hugs.

  • I nearly bought Seven Days of You this weekend! πŸ˜€

  • I love Mercy Thompson, but you already know that. The other books sound really interesting too. I hope you enjoy them.

    Nostalgia sounds really interesting.

  • You are the second person who is
    finally starting Mercy Thompson
series these days. I’m late to this party too. I loved Act Like It, so
hopefully Pretty Face works for me too. Have a great week, Joy!

    • Ohh I love Pretty Face! I feel like it’s stronger of the two. I hope you’ll enjoy it, hun!

  • Oh, you know I loved both Act Like It and Pretty Face! I’m thrilled you did too, Joy. Mercy Thompson!!! I sat and read Silence Fallen all day yesterday (the newest). It was sooooo good! It takes me longer to read Mercy Thompson because I don’t want to miss any interaction. It was a nice way to spend the day considering I’m sick. Hope you fall for Mercy and the gang! πŸ™‚

    • Ah yes. Well, I think I downloaded Pretty Face because of you! LOL.

  • Greg Hill

I just added I See You to my reading list today after seeing a really enthusiastic review. And I recently read Moon Called. I’ve heard Seven Days of You is cute, I may add that one too. Hope your week is a good one. πŸ™‚

    • It’s a good book. I just finished it. I hope you’ll enjoy, Greg!

  • That first Mercy Thompson book was sooooooo rough. So rough. I almost didn’t pick the series back up because of it, but thankfully it got so much better in the following books!

    • This is how I’m feeling right now. It’s taking forever to pick up, tbh. I’ll have to persevere.

  • Sara Walker

I think I See You comes out in the US in April. But it’s out here. I am eager to read it, because I loved I Let You Go so much. I am curious about The Girl Before, I hope you like it.

    • I just finished I See You. It’s good! I think you’ll enjoy it, too. πŸ˜€

I hope you enjoy all of your reads! I understand being tired and lazy sometimes. It happens! I did a lot of scheduling yesterday, but it’s still not that far in advance and I have a lot of March/April review books. Sigh. Good thing I love it! haha

    • I managed to schedule posts up to next week, so yay! I think the trick is to write a review soon after reading. πŸ˜€

  • That’s a great reading week, Joy! πŸ™‚ I liked Pretty Face more than Act Like It, too. I need to get Moon Called read. I’m so behind in everything I wanted to read. What’s new, though? *shrugs*

I hope you have a fabulous reading week!

    • I think so, too. 3-4 books a week is a good week as far as reading is concern. I loved Pretty Face! I can’t wait to read more from Lucy.

  • I love the Mercy Thompson series. I really hope you enjoy it, Joy! I liked The Girl Before and I See You. Seven Days of You was definitely a cute romance. Hope you have a great week!

    • I am. Almost done with the first book!

Thanks, Carole. I hope you’ll have a great week, too!

  • I heard I See You takes a while to get into (I thought the same about her first book) so eager to hear your thoughts. And I’m interested in Seven Days of You. I’ve never read any Patricia Briggs – maybe I should give her a try!

    • It is. It’s a bit slow but it picks up quite a bit towards the middle. I just finished it and definitely glad I persevered.

  • Well, it looks like you are having a good reading time! So much better than I have done lately. I have to say you have me curious about Nostalgia. πŸ™‚

    • It’s interesting, but wholly intimidating.

  • The Atwood book was crazy good or crazy bad? I like the cover of Seven Days of you.

When I was a teenager I was obsessed with past lives memories(had my reasons) so that book does sound interesting to me.
    Have a good week Joy!

    • Crazy good! I have the second book, so I think I’ll try and squeeze it in sometime this month.

  • I read I See You, I really enjoyed it. Nostalgia sounds great, but I think I’d be a bit intimidated as well

    • Right? I feel like it’s going to be above my pay grade, if you know what I mean. LOL.

  • I have heard some great things about Lucy Parker….glad to know you have really enjoyed both books. I have been feeling tired lately too but I am also been working alot more than usual so that is probably why. Hope this week is a good one for you.

    • I think you’ll enjoy her writing! Distinctly British, is all I gotta say. πŸ™‚

  • I’m not familiar with these books but now I’m really interested in Nostalgia. That sounds really fascinating.

    • I think you’ll enjoy Nostalgia, Rebecca. Curious to read your thoughts, for sure.

  • I’m not sure if I like Pretty Face more than Act Like It. I read Act Like It first, so it sort of has an advantage. But either way I loved them both so much!

    • I read Pretty Face first and definitely loved it more than Act Like It. Looking forward to reading more of Lucy’s work!

  • Yay re-reading!

  • Karen

I have the first 7 Mercy books but only read the 1st so far. So I guess I need to do this too! lol

I read my February TBR list and haven’t requested anything new so it’s time for me to pick my March reads. I really need to catch up on older books that have been lying around.

    Karen @For What It’s Worth

    • Hahahah! We’re in the same boat, then. πŸ˜€

  • I read Seven Days of You this week too, and I agree that it was cute!

  • kindlemom1

Love love the Mercy series, I really hope you do as well! I liked the first book but it wasn’t until the second that I really got into the series so if you don’t love the first, hang in there, I think you’ll like the next ones better. πŸ˜‰

    • Gah, I know! Everyone seems to love the books!

  • I was just approved for Pretty Face on Netgalley. I only requested it after seeing how much you enjoyed it. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on I See You and The Girl Before. Both are on my TBR. Happy reading!

    • YASSSSS. I think you’ll love it, too, Brandie!

  • I’m glad you found Seven Days to be cute. I’m hoping to read it soon and I’m excited. I’m glad you liked Act Like It too. I just re-read it last week and it was great.
I need to pick up I See You! I liked her debut book quite a bit. I hope you have reading month in March, Joy! πŸ™‚

    • Ohh I haven’t read her debut novel. I definitely enjoyed I See You, so I need to find a copy of her book!

  • ChristinaBookAddict

I thought Seven Days of You was also really cute. It wasn’t earth-shattering, but an enjoyable contemporary. I also have Moon Called on my shelf. It’s been sitting there for years. I look forward to your thoughts on it! Have a great week!

    • Funny. That’s exactly how I described it! LOL.

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

I am SO EXCITED for you to start the Mercy Thompson series! The first book is good, but not great, and the second sort of is too but then the series really picks up and is just AMAZING. I’m ready for you to join the Adam Hauptman fan club! πŸ˜‰ I’m also glad to see you liked Seven Days of You since it’s on my TBR and yay for more Lucy Parker! Pretty Face is such a different vibe from Act Like It, but I’m glad you liked them both all the same. Since I read Act Like It first I think it holds a special place in my heart, but Lucy Parker is already an auto-buy author for me at this point.

Wonderful post, Joy, and I hope you have a fabulous March!

    • Thanks, girl! I’m looking forward to reading them so I can hang with y’all. πŸ˜€
