Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 194

Four Letter Word by J. Daniels | Bedmates by Nichole Chase | Heartless by Gail Carrier | Searching For Always by Jennifer Probst | The Protector by Jodi Ellen Malpas | Sometimes A Rogue by Mary Jo Putney | For This Life Only by Stacey Kade | Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil by Melina Marchetta | Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo | Meltaltown by Kristen Simmons | Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven | Bright Smoke, Cold Fire by Rosamund Hodge | Every Hidden Thing by Kenneth Oppel | Replica by Lauren Oliver | Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews | Aerie by Maria Dahvana Headley | Alex + Ada by Jonathan Lune & Sarah Vaughn | Bit Rot by Douglas Coupland | Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland| Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood

Yes, I know. This is a ridiculous pile. Trust me, I’ve already cut myself off. Like, I went to the bookstore on Saturday for the sole purpose of buying two books (Melina’s and Alex + Ada) and came home with only those. That’s progress, folks. Because in the past, whenever I go to the bookstore with the intent of picking up specific books, I always end up with a new set of TBR pile. So I think I’m learning how to say no.

Anyway, four of these books are for reviews (three from Penguin Random House Canada and one from Tor Teens), so it’s really not that bad…okay, that’s a lie but, whatevs.

So I’m back. I have a few days of Bloglovin to sift through – please bear with me. The last time I checked, I think I have Tuesday, Monday and the previous weekend to read. Lol. How about you? Do you make a conscious effort read past Bloglovin’ posts?Β I know it’s tough, but I am a Catholic so feeling guilty is like a natural instinct for us. Lol. Especially with everyone being so nice and supportive for my need of a break.

I also got this wonderful box from Hello, Book Lover – which I talked about at length in this post. I can’t wait to devour this book. It sounds like a good mystery about two sisters (obvs). I’m excited to try out the teas as well even though I’m a rare drinker. Are you a subscriber?Β What has been a good subscription box that you’ve subscribed to lately?

The Hating Game is so good, you guys. I have a review coming up this week. Wrong and Right are so much fun. However, I wasn’t bowled over by Bittersweet and Idol. The Sun is Also A Star was brilliant but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did her debut novel.

That’s it for now, I think. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Also, Happy, Happy Birthday to my main squeeze. I know you get email notifications whenever I upload a new post but I don’t know if you read them. But I want you to know that you are the Darcy to my Elizabeth. You’re not perfect; you’re cranky at times, but you’ll do everything for me, our kids and even our families. So thank you. And I love you. Most ardently. <3

Have a great week!

  • Rachel

That is so much restraint, only buying the two you went in for. I can’t walk into a bookshop to browse without leaving with something. I currently have WEEKS to go through on Bloglovin, but I’ll hit it all in a day and only read the posts that catch my eye. I do this so I can recommend posts to check out in my monthly wrap up, which is currently overdue. I feel your catholic guilt sista, I’ve been a bad blogger lately. R xx

  • Natalie

I’m reading The Hating Game right now. It is overdue from the library…but I’m just going to pay the fine.

  • I have Right and Wrong in my tbr-glad you liked them. I have wondered about Idol and almost bought it so now I am glad I didn’t! So many other books I know nothing about although I have added The Hating Game to my Amazon list after reading your review. Yes, I am reading your posts out of order. Sorry. Enjoy your books!

  • I see so many great books! I’m so tempted to try a subscription box – like a present just for you!!

  • Ohhh πŸ˜€ SO MANY BOOKS. Haha, YAY πŸ˜€ Getting books are the best ;p I hope you will love them all Joy. <3 Gah, I really must read Crooked Kingdom soon πŸ™‚ Just so nervous. Ugh. I didn't love Metaltown, sadly : But it is gorgeous πŸ™‚ Happy reading sweetest girl. <3

  • Wow that is a big pile of books! I have trouble saying no to new books as well so I completely understand. I have been tempted by subscription boxes but I just can’t justify them in my head so I have resisted. I hope your honey had a nice birthday!

  • So many books πŸ˜€

  • Ahhh, I hope I like The Sun Is A Star. I really liked Bittersweet because it was so light and drama free, haven’t heard good things about Idol.

Re: bloglovin, if I go through times when I cant check my feed for a few days or week, I go through each blog and save at least one post of their to comment on (I check out others but I just don’t have time to comment on all of their posts). This way I don’t feel guilty for not commenting. Sadly, there are times Joy when you just have to say fuck it and mark them all as read πŸ™‚

I really need to read The Hating Game. Everyone seems to love it, and it just sounds like a perfect read for me! That’s great you are learning to say no when you enter a bookstore. I do quite well but sometimes it’s tough!

  • Everyone is loving The Hating Game; I really need to get around to downloading it. Right and Wrong are on my TBR, and I just bought Bittersweet since it was 99cents. I did love Idol, haha. Quite the haul!

  • I want to read The Sun is Also a Star too. I have yet to go on a new book haul. I will reward myself soon! I hope your hubby enjoyed his special day!!

  • Jasprit

Well done Joy for just buying books that you went to go out and get! My pile has seriously been accumulating too, but I just really need to get through it! I can’t wait to see how you get on with Marchetta’s newest book, I shall be looking out for your updates. And I’m thrilled to see you enjoyed The Hating Game too! Happy reading! πŸ™‚

  • Aw! Sweet wishes for your main squeeze! πŸ™‚ Oh and bookstores… yea, I do think that most or all of us know that pain? elation? LOL I really need to get The Hating Game.

  • Replica!! I SO need to read that. And I also need to figure out HOW to read it πŸ™‚ I really loved The Sun is Also a Star. The cover is SO dang pretty!! And I loved the short chapters. I didn’t read her debut, so I really don’t have anything to compare it to and maybe that was a good thing???

And I do try to catch up on BL. I don’t know why I feel like I have to, but I do!

  • Awww, I’m sad that you didn’t love Bittersweet cause I did. I still have Idol to read and I was trying to get that read before Managed comes out but oh well. Better luck next time. I liked The Hating Game too so I’m glad to see that you enjoyed it. Wasn’t Josh and Lucy great? And that scene in the restaurant with Lucy and Josh’s Dad? Fabulous! So much love.

That’s a lot of books, Joy. I’m not at you though, because…I see a lot of books that I want to read in that pile. Happy reading!

I’ve been wanting to try out a book subscription service but there are so many out there that I always get tangled up in which one to choose so I haven’t chosen any. I need help!

I hope you have a wonderful reading week, Joy!

  • Karen

I’m the only person who wasn’t totally in love with The Hating Game! I thought it was cute but meh…blogger fail lol

    Karen @For What It’s Worth

  • So many pretties!! I’m looking forward to Bittersweet so it’s sad you didn’t love it :/ I need to get my hands on The Hating Game!!! I’ll be starting The Sun Is Also A Star this week (possibly today).
I actually check some of the posts on my phone but it’s rare if I comment. I do try to comment on the blogs I totally love, even when I don’t post πŸ™‚

  • Look at all the books! Aww I’m sad you didn’t love Bittersweet. πŸ™ I didn’t like Idol at all, but I’m looking forward to picking up Managed because the teaser intrigued me. I’m also happy to hear you loved The Hating Game and The Sun Is Also a Star. I can’t wait for Nicola Yoon’s one especially.
Oh and yeah, I don’t read past the BL posts because it’s too much to catch up on. Sometimes, I’ll read other posts, but I won’t comment.
Happy reading and enjoy your books!

  • kindlemom1

Happy Birthday to your husband and congrats on all the books. πŸ˜‰

  • ChristinaBookAddict

Awesome haul! I am especially impressed by your BooK Lover package…love that! I also have Heartless (and have had it FOREVER!) on my shelf and really want to make time to read it. It sounds like my kind of read. Enjoy all your books and your reference to feeling guilty about not getting caught up on past posts because you are Catholic made me LOL. I can relate to that! πŸ™‚

  • Holy book haul! Impressive. What I love is how much your book tastes ranges. There’s such a mixed bag of books here, and it’s awesome! I’m sorry you didn’t love Bittersweet. One of my favs. But I’m anxious to read your review of The Hating Game! I want to read that one soon.
I try to read all of my Bloglovin posts as I have time. If I get weeks behind, then sometimes I just start with a clean slate, but I usually try to get through them all if I can.
    Happy birthday to your hubby!

  • You and your book love/book guilt. Poor Joy. And the Bloglovin’ guilt is just too much. Give yourself a break, darling. It’s super sweet that you don’t want to miss a week of the blogosphere, but you can’t do everything and we totally understand. I’ll fully admit I don’t stay up to date with my Bloglovin’ feed. I follow hundreds of blogs, and even just my “Active Followers” feed has 95 blogs in it. If I stressed myself over missing posts on every one of them I’d quickly go insane. I try my best to keep up, but I’m definitely not perfect!

  • Aww that’s a cute message to your main squeeze. Happy birthday to him! I don’t use Bloglovin’. I subscribe to my favorites through email. It’s hard to go through every one when they get backed up, though. Enjoy your books, Joy!

  • Great looking books! Hope you enjoy them πŸ™‚
