On the Night Table [42]: Fall TBR

Angel of Oblivion by Maja Haderlap | The Spawning Grounds by Gail Anderson-Dargatz | The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon | Scythe by Neal Shusterman | Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

It’s going to be quite an ambitious month for me over here. But I feel like I’ve been neglecting so much and I need to do my best to curb-stump by TBR pile – particularly, the books that I’ve gotten for review. And there’d been so many! This past weekend, I made a list of all the books that needed my immediate attention and have come up with what is now my On the Night Table post.

Angel of Oblivion by Maja HaderlapΒ Β is a memoir meant to aid the narrator in unburdening herself with what had been a difficult life. I’m in for angst, I think but I’m looking forward to reading this because it’s sort of a historical, racially charged account of how Slovenians were treated in German-speaking Austria. Looking forward to reading this.Β

The Spawning Grounds by Gail Anderson-Dargatz is a family saga set in British Columbia. I’m always on the lookout for books set in my country, so I was happy to receive this from Random House Canada.

The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon I love Nicola’s debut and have sworn to read anything she puts out ever since then. I can’t wait to read this!

Scythe by Neal Shusterman I haven’t read any of his books but I think I have his popular series. I’m looking forward to finally reading one of his books!

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult this is only going to be my second Jodi Picoult reading, believe it or not. Loved her The Storyteller, so looking forward to more of the same.

Have you read any of these?

What do you plan to read this month?

  • All these authors are new to me except Jodi Picoult, but I haven’t read her work before either. Hope they are good reads for you!

  • Ohh, best of luck reading all of these books Joy πŸ˜€ You can do it. <3 I'm not planning on reading any of them, lol, but they do seem pretty interesting πŸ™‚ Happy reading. <3

  • I hope the Jodi Piocult lives up to expectations. I’ve read most of her books but the only one I really liked was The Storyteller.

    • I loved The Storyteller! That and her collaboration with her daughter were the only books I’ve read of hers.

  • Ha – I’m also trying to kick my reading into high gear this month. Let’s see how we do πŸ™‚

  • I haven’t read any of the books mentioned but I’m curious about the Picoult book. I haven’t read too many great things about it so I’m wondering where you’ll fall with that one.

I’ve got so many books on my TBR list for October, I don’t even know where to start with listing them. Ruled by Elle Kennedy, One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis, First Step Forward by Liora Blake and Size Matters by Alison Bliss to start. I’ll have a busy reading month ahead of me for sure.

Good luck with your fall TBR, Joy!

    • I need to read that series by Jill Shalvis!

  • I heard that Scythe is really good. I have not read his other stuff either, but I am looking forward to picking that one up. Also, I love your pictures up top, you do such an awesome job.

    • I heard many good things as well. Let’s hope I’d like it. πŸ™‚ Oh, and thanks!

  • I haven’t read any of those. A book I’m planning to read a super excited for is Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas.

    • Ohh I just recently acquired a taste for Penelope Douglas’ books so I’m gonna wait to see what you think of that one!

  • My husband read the Unwind series by Neil Schusterman and it freaked him out. I never picked it up after that. I hope you enjoy all your books. Love the photo! πŸ™‚

    • That’s so cool. I wish my husband reads books. Lol. Oh, well. Nobody’s perfect. πŸ™‚

  • I haven’t read any of them! I need to read Yoon’s first novel, but I’m not a YA fan and have been dragging my feet.
I’m determined to read Him this fall!

    • Might not be your forte then. Adorable comes to mind. πŸ™‚

  • shootingstarsmag

I really want to read Scythe, so I hope you enjoy it. It sounds great. I haven’t read a new Picoult novel in awhile – I really need too -but there was a time where I read a lot of them. She’s great!

    • I’ve only read one of hers so far (The Storyteller) and have enjoyed it. I hope the same goes for this one.

  • I still haven’t read Yoon’s debut. I feel so behind!

    • Oh, it’s so good, Brandie. But then again, it’s YA and I know you don’t normally read them so who knows? πŸ™‚

  • Oh these look interesting. I hope they are all good! I’m curious about Yoon’s book. I have her on my must try author list.

    • I hope so too. I just finished Angel of Oblivion – different but good. πŸ™‚

  • I should spend more time on my book pics, but I am lazy, lol

    • I’m lazy sometimes, too. Lol. We do what we have to do, eh?

  • I have The Sun Is Also A Star to read this month! I’m so excited to be reading it. Plus the cover is just gorgeous!
    Genesis @ Latte Nights Reviews
New Post: Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti

    • Absolutely gorgeous! So much like her cover for Everything, Everything. I hope we’ll both enjoy it!

  • Jasprit

I definitely need to sort my to read next books too Joy, lately I just seem to be diving into the newest release when it arrives or living off audiobooks! I have so many review books I need to tackle! I’ve also been meaning to get to my copy of Yoon’s debut novel, so I can’t wait to see how you get on with her newest one! Happy reading πŸ™‚

    • Audiobooks are so addictive! Unfortunately, I haven’t been listening to them lately because I haven’t quite gotten over my ear infections. *sobs* I can’t wait to dive in!

  • that’s nice. many books I didn’t know about. have a nice week!

  • Gorgeous photo, Joy! I hope you enjoy all your books. I can’t wait to see what you think about Scythe.

  • ChristinaBookAddict

Ohh! I love your photo! I look forward to your thoughts on Scythe.

    • Thanks, Christina! Looking forward to reading it. πŸ™‚

  • I so can’t wait to read Nicola Yoon’s book! I may have bothered Nereyda and asked her to let me borrow her copy. πŸ™‚
I haven’t read anything by Schusterman either, so I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on Scythe. I hope all of these turn out to be amazing! πŸ™‚

    • It looks so good! Heftier than Everything Everything, but I hope it’ll go fast. πŸ˜‰

  • kindlemom1

Good luck with all of your reading goals Joy!

  • Ooohhh I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Sun is Also a Star and Scythe (I’ve heard good things about it!). There have been HEAPS of review copies out lately and I’m drowning lol. I’m still catching up from releases from March, send help.

    • *sobs* I know, right? I need to take a break for a month and not request anything just to catch up.

  • I’ve enjoyed every Neal Shusterman book I read. I hope you enjoy Scythe!! It’s my most anticipated for fall πŸ˜€ I’m also looking forward to The Sun is Also a Star! Can’t wait to know what you think of it πŸ˜€

    • That’s great to hear, czai! I think I have the first three books to Unwind. Looking forward to reading this Scythe.

      • Unwind is my fave Neal Shusterman book! I think it was supposed to be a standalone. The ending was really satisfying and the development of the characters were really gooooood.
