The Scorpion Rules | Blow by Heidi Mclaughlin | The Farther He Runs by Lynda Aicher

Your eyes do not deceive you. This week’s book haul is by far, the sanest one I’ve had in my five years of blogging. Aside from The Scorpion Rules, Blow and The Farther He Runs are from Net Galley. So I’m pretty proud of myself. It helps that there’s nothing I wanted to read from the list of new releases this past week. It’s probably going to be slow from here on out – I’ll try my best at least.

I downloaded The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow from Audible because I have the sequel on my September ARC pile. Honestly, it was 14 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Sigh.

I also read Blow by Heidi Mclaughlin already but this book will not be out until sometime in November, I think. So I probably will not post the review until closer to the release date. I’m looking forward to reading The Farther He Runs but that’s not going to be out until December.

It has been a quiet week here on the blog but I’m glad for your visits. Just a quick reminder that my blog anniversary giveaway is ending soon, so if you haven’t entered, do so now.

*raises glass* I am drinking in honor of your dry buying spell, J.! Well done!

  • Kara Lauren

Thank you for always visiting me Joy, it always brings a smile to my face!

  • Wow only 3 books? Who are you and where’s Joy? That’s a good thing though, at least you can catch up on your other reads. Have a great week ahead!

  • Yay for pretty books, lol 😀 And aw. So few books gotten 🙂 But yay for you. <3 It is only Tuesday.. and this week I have already gotten 10 books. Gaaaah. And getting more in the next few days, I think. Heh 🙂 Hope you are doing good Joy. <3

  • Jazmen

3 books? Not bad, Joy. Not bad.

Your posts gives me an idea for one, because what is happening? It seems that those of us who have been blogging for a little bit longer–I’ve not been blogging as long as you have–we seem to burning out. Not the love of reading, just the reviewing. It’s interesting.

    Anyway–hope you read something good!

  • I think there are quite a few of us that are so busy. I have been pretty busy lately trying to finish my program in time before I move, so I haven’t been around as much as I would like. But hopefully things will settle down for me. I am curious about your review of The Farther He Runs though.

  • I’m surprised how many long term bloggers seem to be slowing down lately too Joy, not just us it seems. I’ve only been absent for a few weeks, but it seems so many of us are busy with other things at the moment or just can’t find that motivation. I’m so sorry to hear about The Scorpion Rules, it sounds pretty blah to be honest. I think with so many fantastical books that came out in 2015, 2016 has been a bit of a let down. Really interested to see what you thought of Blow. I’ve read a few Heidi titles and have enjoyed them previously too. Have a fabulous week of reading Joy <3 <3

  • Is it me or are the older book blogs like us slowing down? I know I have….

  • I’m curious to see how you liked Blow. I was interested in that one when I first read about it but then it fell off my radar. *shrugs* That happens sometimes so I’ll look forward to your review.

I got a copy of The Scorpion Rules randomly sent to me. I was curious and then I read some reviews and decided ‘not for me.’ Sorry it didn’t work for you though! You sometimes hope that it’s just other people and YOU will love it. haha

    • It’s a very bland novel. I had to force myself to finish it, to be honest.

  • I have a copy of The Scorpion Rules from NetGalley that I still need to read. I saw a few not so good reviews and put it aside. I was actually looking at the other two books on NetGalley but I told myself no. I may need to look again. 🙂 Have a great week!

    • I wish I’d read the reviews before I requested a copy of The Swan Riders from Simon & Schuster. It’s really unfortunate but it’s just not for me. :/

  • I pretty much only buy eBooks or audios now since physical copies are so freaking expensive. I’m curious about Blow!

    • I really should stop buying physical copies of books. Aside from the space situation, you’re right about the cost. Sigh.

  • I’ve had The Scorpion Rules on my Kindle for months. I am not entirely sure what made me buy it. Hope you have a great week!

    • Thanks, Lekeisha. Well, let’s hope you’ll have a better time than I did. That is, when you get around to reading.

  • Thea’s nothing wrong with e-books girl! I love e-books BUT I miss physical ones as well which is why I need a larger bookshelf so I can hold all of my babies! <3

    • I’m starting to see the advantages. Lol. No one will ever see evidence of “The Pile”.

  • Have a great week! 🙂

  • No physical books and only ebooks! That’s a brilliant start on taking things slower on the book buying front. I’d heard mixed things about The Scorpion Rules before… sorry it wasn’t the book for you…

    • *beams* Right? I’m pretty awesome. Hehehe. Though, I have a feeling I will have to give in this week because I’ve got three $10 gift cards from my local bookstore than I can only use one per transaction. Which means I’d have to buy 3 books on separate transactions. *cries*

      • Well those are going to be free books… so I guess it still isn’t as bad? Or maybe save them until some books turn up that you really REALLY want!

  • woohooo! getting few books on a book haul post feels like a good accomplishment. haha. I’m sorry The Scorpion Rules turned out to be a waste of your time. Hope your next read will be better 🙂

  • I always see books on your blog that I don’t see anywhere else and that’s a good thing. Sorry the one didn’t work though! Have a good rest of the weekend!

    • Thanks, Lorna. I hope you had a great weekend. 🙂

  • Awww, sad that THE SCORPION RULES didn’t work for you! I found it kinda okay, and there were things that definitely could have been better, but I’ll be picking up the sequel if I happen to get a copy. Happy reading and have a great week! 😀

Rabiah @ Confessions of a Readaholic

    • It didn’t make me feel anything, to be honest. I hope The Swan Riders will be infinitely better for sure.

  • I’m sorry that The Scorpion Rules didn’t work out. That is never fun. I hope you have better luck with your other books. 🙂

Melanie @ Hot Listens & Rabid Reads

  • Lots of abs in your haul this week, Joy! 😛
I’m very very curious about Blow and I was tempted to download it but I’m so terrible with books with musicians in it. I’m going to wait for your review before deciding if I want it or not.
Your haul might be small, but it looks great!
Have a great week ahead, Joy!

    • Hehehehe. I know right? I wanted to post it on Instagram but my daughter follows me so I decided not to. Lol. Blow was not as great as I thought it would be. Surprising, considering the author. I’ve loved her M/M romance but this hetero romance just didn’t work for some reason.
