It’s Been 5 Glorious Years

Last year, my blog anniversary came and went without any fanfare. Four years of doing this thang is a huge deal, but FIVE years is a freaking milestone! Not gonna lie, my first two and a half years of blogging was a blur. I was frustrated and was ready to quit because I didn’t see the point of writing book reviews when no one ever reads them. I did, however, saw the light during the latter part of my third year. I realized what I was doing wrong and have made corrections to jump start my love blogging over again.

It took painstaking patience to get to where I am now. I feel like even though my blog isn’t huge by any stretch, I’m comfortable enough to say that I’ve experienced success at last. I only ever want to be read and find a little niche for myself. And in the last couple of years, I feel like I’ve already achieved so much. I don’t care that I don’t get ARCs of the popular books everybody gets; nor do I care that my followerΒ count has been virtually stuck. I’m happy to see you reading my posts and even though my commenters are the same people day in and day out, at least I know that I am a part of your daily blogging routine. So thank you, my loyal readers and friends. Because without your thoughtful comments and religious visitations, I don’t think I would still be here.

So here’s a little token of gratitude for sticking with me:

        • Open Internationally. That’s it.

thank you for your blogging, Joy. I love your blog to pieces! It has this quiet

love. I like how you visit my blog and comment even if I hadn’t been around
yours for a while. Happy blogoversary!

  • I know I’m glad to the game but HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY JOY!! I’m so glad to have discovered a Joy across the ocean, and someone whose reading tastes have shown me a whole me spectrum of books outside of my own usual reads and genres. I don’t remember when we met, but I’m so glad that we did πŸ™‚

Congratulations on 5 years of blogging! Going strong!
WIshing you more years of sharing with us your reads. Thank you so much.

  • 5 years is SO COOL!!! Congrats, it’s definitely a big accomplishment. If nothing else, it shows that you are able to stick with something. So many bloggers come and go, and everybody’s different, but I think it’s so cool when someone braved all the storms and still made it through πŸ™‚

  • Wow, congrats on the 5 years! Nick and I are coming up on our 5 year anniversary in December. She and I actually started our blogs one day apart which I think is weird since we ended up blogging together 4 years later.

Anyway, my outlook on blogging is like yours. I don’t give a shit about arcs, talking to publishers or authors, instagram or any of that stuff. I’m at the point where I just wanna read, review and interact through comments.

  • 5 years! That’s a lot of time! πŸ™‚

  • Adriana C

    Happy 5th aniversary Joy!
Does a kindle count as books? or I could buy music..XD

  • Happy blogversary! Wow 5 Years πŸ™‚
Aside from books….. probably props to bookstagram with!

  • Congrats. Five years is a long time. I feel the exact same way you do. I have the same commenters on my reviews all the time too. That’s okay. I’m happy knowing that there are some people who enjoy my reviews. I love seeing that someone picked up a book based on my review and really enjoyed it. Here’s to many more years. πŸ™‚

Happy anniversary and congratulations on five years. I am saving on Amazon for drone to buy πŸ˜‰

Five years is bloody awesome! I can’t even remember how long I’ve been stalking you but I truly consider you one of my blogging mates. We’re from opposite sides of the world, but we’re so much alike Joy. You’re a magnificent person and someone who I admire greatly, not just for your blogging, but your determination, your strength and because you aren’t afraid to step outside of that comfort zone and make it your bitch <3

  • Emma A

Happy Blog Anniversary!!! Wow, 5 years! What an accomplishment!
This may be a bit of tmi, but other than books I would buy bras. I only buy bras on Amazon since they can be up to 70% off, which is a huge amount of money to save when you have to pay as much as I do to get the right size bra. And I would use it to buy movies 😊

  • Congratulations on five years, Joy! It’s amazing that we’re starting to really have been at this for so long, and that we stuck with it and our passion has grown so much! I know personally I’ve loved this experience, despite all the things I haven’t loved about it, and this last year has been my favourite. And I think that’s a theme- each year you go, that last one is your favourite. I hope so, at least.

It’s been so nice meeting you and following your blog for these past couple years (not five, not quite, but a couple!) and I hope that for as long as we both blog, we both cherish every moment of it. xx

  • Congratulations on FIVE YEARS, Joy!! I always enjoy your posts, and your comments! Wow, that’s a generous giveaway! Here’s to many more glorious years to come! πŸ™‚

  • Congrats on 5 years! I’m glad you found a way to enjoy blogging instead of giving up like me lol

Aside from books I would probably buy yarn or crochet hooks since that’s my other hobby.

  • shootingstarsmag

Congrats on five years! I’m glad that are you still blogging and you have found a way to really enjoy it! My blogoversary is this month too; I need to get my post/giveaway up soon! haha Time flies. Sheesh.

  • Michelle

Congratulations on 5 years!!! That is a huge milestone indeed!!
I honestly can’t think of anything other than books that I would use an Amazon gift card for… maybe some music, but pretty much books!

  • Happy Blogiversary!!!!! 5 years is huge – I just met that in March on my other blog, and it feels so different. It’s half a decade!

Hm, I think I’d use the $100 towards a new Kindle. I dropped mine pretty bad the other day and it’s not as happy to turn on as it used to be.

  • Jazmen

I’m getting close to you Joy. But I never celebrate so my dates could be off. BUT MAN 5 YEARS? You did that thing girl. I’m definitely in the “who’s even reading these crap reviews? What am I doing this for. I can’t review a damn thing,” phase. And I’ve got a couple of years under my belt. I’ll get back into it. SO glad to know you and many more years!

  • Red

Happy Blogoversary! I’m glad it was 5 glorious years for you although a few years were frustrating. You’re doing an incredible job. I hope all that’s ahead is happiness in reading & in blogging. Aside from books?? Um… I’m sorry, I don’t think my brain can comprehend such a thought… haha! πŸ˜‰ I really don’t know for sure, though. Maybe start off with some movies (and books, of course!) & these super cute shoes I found on Amazon that I’ve had my eye on… πŸ˜‰

And congratulations on 5 years of blogging, Joy!! That’s awesome! πŸ˜€ I’m coming up on 5 years myself in a few months… Gotta say, I never thought I’d still be blogging after all this time. πŸ˜‰

  • kindlemom1

Happy Blogaversary!! I feel the same way, my blog isn’t huge but I finally feel comfortable with the followers I have and I love the commentators and all the people I’ve meet over the years.
Thank you so much for the giveaway, I have no idea what I will spend it on but books would definitely be in the picture. πŸ˜‰

  • Happy Blogoversary! 5 years is a big deal in this community, and I’m hoping to make it that long. It’s only been 2.5 for me, and there have been days when I wanted to throw in the towel because I have so much else going on, and the stress and drama that this community sometimes push out is overwhelming. I always tell myself to take a few days and breathe. If I didn’t spend money on books, I’d spend it on shoes. I have this weird thing for Vans. Every pair I own (there are so many, I’ve lost count) have come from Amz. There are pairs that I’ve bought just to where with a shirt in my closet. LOL!

  • Happy blogoversary!!! 5 years is a HUGE accomplishment! Just so you know, when I click on your Instagram link in your sidebar, I get a message that the page isn’t available. I’m already a follower on Instagram, but it might stop new people from being able to follow you!

Hmmm … Spend my money on something other than books? Maybe I’d put the money toward a new kitchen table. Mine is … um … past its prime.

  • ChristinaBookAddict

5 years! Woo hoo! That’s awesome. I am so glad I found your blog. I hope you continue with it, because I enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for the great giveaway! If I couldn’t spend $100 on books, I would spend it on shoes or purses. Oh, maybe sunglasses! πŸ™‚

  • Congratulations on 5 years! Wow, it has been a long time of blogging, hasn’t it? And I totally agree with you–first few years were definitely frustrating but now all the stuff I thought mattered when it came to blogging just doesn’t seem to faze me any more (or as much as it did back then, rather). Congrats once again and thanks for the awesome giveaway! To answer your question, other than books (which is a given, haha!), I would buy a kindle, because the new one looks really good πŸ˜€
Thanks for all the comments and for the awesome posts–it’s always so lovely to see your thoughts on my posts, and I LOVE the reviews etc. you post! Blog on!! πŸ˜€

  • 5 years! WOW!
Happy Blogoversary, friend! I’m so so glad that you didn’t quit because of your frustrations early on. I was pretty much blogging to myself too, but I’m so glad that I’ve met so many wonderful, trusted bloggers. I think I’ve been doing this thing for so long that I really don’t care about ARCs anymore either because I mostly enjoy non ARCs anyways. Plus, there’s less pressure and I don’t ever want to go back to the days when blogging was a chore.
Anyways, enough about me. I am so pleased that I can consider you a friend! And I hope that we can do BEA together next year!! (You’ll be stuck with me!)
You already know how much your blog and your friendship means to me. Thanks for sticking with me all this time, Joy! <3 Much love to you!!
Ooh and to answer your giveaway question! I would use it to buy myself a Kindle. I've been saving up for one because my Nook is slowly dying unfortunately. Thanks for the giveaway, Joy!

  • karina

There is nothing beside books! :))) Happy blogoversary, sweetie! I know exactly how you feel, J., as I am pretty much in the same situation. Every time I have free time to visit I’m always saying hello, and I know you do too, and I really love you for it. Huge hugs xxx

  • Trixie Traci

There’s other stuff besides books??? 😱 lol I honestly don’t know what I would buy. Maybe some music & dvds? Hmm…

Congrats on 5 years, btw. Awesome accomplishment!
