July Rewind

Hello, all.

How’s your weekend so far? We have a long weekend here so I have an extra day to get things done before I go back to work. I’ve been on vacation for a week. We didn’t really do anything besides pig out, thrift store shopping, and laze around the house. And while some people would’ve taken advantage of the time off to read and get ahead on blogging, I mostly watched a lot of movies. I just finally got caught up with Bloglovin’ (I’ve neglected that, too) and with this post, I’m hoping to keep the inspiration coming.

A New Thing

This week, I started a feature on the blog where I talk about books on a more personal level. ย While rearranging my books in the basement, I was overcome with the memories that certain books brought out. I started thinking about the beginning of my love affair with reading right to this point of my life. It’s very therapeutic in a way.

July and Goodreads

July has been a great month. I got caught up on my challenge; cross-posted all the reviews I’ve written, and have managed to get a little bit ahead on the blog. I’m bummed, though that I wasn’t able to take advantage of my vacation. I could’ve read more, written more. Anyway, here are the books I’ve read this month:

Only 12 books this month. But I’m good with that. My inbox is pretty scary, to be honest, so that’s why I skipped INBOX/OUTBOX this month. It’s so depressing and I figure why dwell on the stuff that will only get me down? Needless to say, my TBR differential for the month isn’t where I want it to be.

My favourite read for July is a toss up between Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and The House at the Edge of Night by Catherine Banner. They’re great reads in their own right. Dark Matter is a Sci-Fi, while The House at the Edge of Night is a Historical Fiction that spans right through the present. Amazing stuff.

The blog is turning 5 on August 6. I’m still thinking about what to do to celebrate this momentous occasion. I’ll keep you posted, but it has been a while since I’ve hosted a giveaway so might do something but not too extravagant.

I wish you all the best of August and I hope you’re keeping cool or warm depending on which side of the globe you’re on. ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy reading!

  • You know Iโ€™ve been on vacation
for three weeks in August and havenโ€™t done much blog-wise during that period. I
guess sometimes we need just laze around the house.

  • YAY for having a good July ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you for sharing Joy. <3 And aw, yay for having a good week off ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm so behind on commenting.. haha. Only commenting right now on blog posts that I get via email.. which aren't many.. I haven't opened Feedly in almost 3 weeks soon. Sobs. So behind. Ahh! Anyway ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you are doing the best sweet girl. <3 YAY for having read a bunch ๐Ÿ™‚ Lady Midnight. <3

  • Congratulations on 5 years! That’s so incredible :). Also, I HAVE to read Dark Matter and The House at the Edge of Night. Both of them sound like books I would really enjoy.

Congrats on five years Joy, that’s pretty epic. I surpassed 6 years in July and totally missed it. Oh well. I am ALWAYS so impressed with the amount of books you can bang out in a month. I need to practice speedy reading- it’s a skill, and I need to hone on it. Good luck in August, I hope you get your 20 books in!

  • For someone who didn’t take advantage of your reading time, you sure have read a lot. Personally I have been on holiday too and am still abroad. I haven’t read anything more than the 100 pages I’ve managed between three flights. I should really take advantage of the time too! But it’s good to slow down and laze around too – so hope you have fun doing that.

Looks like you had a great reading month (12 is a good number). I understand how you could feel like you could have read more or blogged more or just done more because I get the same way but hey, you did things and there’s always next month. Don’t give up! ๐Ÿ™‚

I always tell myself I could have read more or done more for the blog, but hey, sometimes you just have to focus on other things in your life…even if that’s just relaxing and watching TV. I’m currently watching The Flash tv show and loving it, so that takes up time. I’m not a big binge watcher though, so hey, I’m enjoying it while I have more time! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Great month! I always slack on reading when on vacation. That’s what I’m doing now (well, working vacation…), and I wish I could motivate myself to read!

  • Enjoy the last moments of your vacation! My July was crazy, but I did read some good books. I really hope to read Lady Midnight and 738 Days.

  • Wow, 12 books is awesome! And ah, I’ve bought so many books lately and I’ve only got rid of 2…so you’re right, let’s not dwell on that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Good month!

  • I need to catch up on reviews and cross posting. I’ve not really kept up with my usual 6 posts per week these past few months. Hopefully everything will fall into place. Happy Sunday!

  • Yay for 5! I suggest you a live stream of strippers in celebration. ๐Ÿ˜€ Agreed, Dark Matter was really good. My condolences for your vacation ending, though. ๐Ÿ™‚
