Stiletto by Daniel O’Malley | Never Missing, Never Found by Amanda Panitch | The Rook by Daniel O’Malley | Saga, Volume 6 by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples | And I Darken by Kiersten White

Good Morning.

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty uneventful. I’d planned on tackling the backyard but it was too hot and muggy. I decided to stay indoors and design what I want to do instead. Lots of work to be done, starting with staining my deck. So hopefully, in two weeks’ time, when my husband is on his vacation leave, he’d be able to start on this project.

It has been such a heartbreaking, awful week. It seems like there’s always something happening in the States lately. I’m filled with anger and frustration. It has happened one too many times already that I fear the country is heading into civil war. How do you bridge the gap? I hope all the families’ victims will find peace and comfort during these trying times.

Air Awakens by Elise Kova was so-so. I don’t know if I’m going to pursue the series.

The Beast by JR Ward was amazing. I can’t wait to read Xcor and Layla’s book!

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare was awesome. Gah. I am bound for heartache, I just know it!

738 Days by Stacey Kade was surprisingly good. I really enjoyed it.

Saga, Volume 6 by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples is so freaking awesome! I can’t wait to read the rest.

  • I still need to catch up on The Mortal Instruments and basically ALL THE CASSANDRA CLARE BOOKS. And I Darken looks super amazing, and I have Never Missing, Never Found too! Can’t wait to get to that one. Hope My Lady Jane is as good as everyone makes it out to be 😀 Happy reading!

  • It’s scary in the whole world these days. Dallas, Orlando, France, Turkey-I honestly worry for the world. Civil War is just scary to me. I couldn’t imagine it-but then I couldn’t imagine a lot of things until 9/11. Looks like you been reading some good books! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  • Lovely post Joy. <3 Hugs. The world is sucking so much these days. Uuuugh 🙁 I'm glad that you are doing good. <3 Hugs. And eee, YAY for getting And I Darken 😀 I liked it a whole bunch, despite all that heartbreak, haha 😀 Happy reading. <3

  • Yeah, we’re not having the best time down here. I only hope people can find their capacity to love in all of this.

Oooooh, I can’t wait to see what you think of My Lady Jane! I haven’t read it yet, but people keep raving, so I’m excited! 🙂

Last week was bad… Well done for reading so much, J.! Super curious to see if you like O’Malley’s books, and Kiersten White was a good read too. Enjoy! xxx

  • Jazmen

This is a very trying time in the world. I’m thanking GOD for books, so I can escape–even if just for a little bit.

  • Woah, you read heaps of fantastic books this week! I’m glad you enjoyed Lady Midnight, I want to read the Clockwork series before delving into it though. I can’t wait to read My Lady Jane, it’s at my library! It’s been a pretty sad state of affairs lately, but Pokemon Go is kind of making it better.

  • Xcor and Layla! How long have we been waiting for their book now? So glad it’s the next one being released! Okay… I’m a bit of a BDB fangirl and nearly no one I know reads them so I have to keep all my gushing inside.

Good luck with staining the deck! And I hope you and your family are staying safe.

  • I need to get caught up on Saga!! I plan on re-reading the graphic novels after I’ve gone through my library books. I swear, it’s like I robbed the place. I finally have My Lady Jane though! Hope to get to it soon so we can compare thoughts 🙂

  • I absolutely LOVED Never Missing, Never Found so I hope you end up loving it as much as I did! <3

And I completely agree. The world has made a turn for the worse in the past few weeks, especially in the US. 😓 Hopefully things change – and soon.

Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3

  • It sounds like you have a lot of stuff going on at your house and asme here for me. It seems like I always have way more to do than I actually have time for which is always sad because I WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO ALL THIGNS. But, sometimes you just can’t. *sigh* But, at least you’ll never be bored! 🙂 And I’m also praying for those families that have lost love ones. 🙁 it’s a really sad time for our nation. 🙁

  • It’s been very rough hearing what’s going on all around the world the past couple of weeks. Hopefully things will get better.

As for your books, I wasn’t too interested in And I Darken originally, but after seeing the reviews for it, I’m curious about giving it a try. Looking forwards to seeing your thoughts on it and My Lady Jane!

  • shootingstarsmag

It’s awful what is happening in the U.S. right now and very scary! Something big has to change, but I don’t know what will happen. I just hope this upcoming election goes well. It’s scary all around.

As for your reading, I NEED Saga Vol. 6. I read the first 5 and it’s such a good series.

  • It’s definitely been a rough week. I’ve stayed off Facebook, since I just can’t handle anymore of it. It’s making me sick.

I want to read the beast! I’m very curious to see your thoughts on And I Darken – just added it to my TBR!

  • We have lived through things like this if we check history, and it is just that we haven’t learned enough. Frustrations boil over and I don’t think it will be uncivil war in the states. Too many good people and I see more of them speaking up.

On the book front… great haul. Hope you are enjoying My Lady Jane… I want to read that one!

  • I need more Saga books!

  • I really want to read My Lady Jane – I’ve heard such good things! And I know, it’s heartbreaking hearing about all the devastating things that are happening in the world 🙁

  • Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

I just bought Lady Jane audiobook and I really look forward to it. Also, I’m so happy to see And I Darken on your pile! I loved that book so much. And I agree about Lady Midnight. We know what lies ahead, but we still walk bravely towards heartbreak.

  • Xcor & Layla, I’m curious too how that’s going to happen and if the BDB will finally make up with BoB

  • ChristinaBookAddict

Yes! It has been a rough week here in the US. It’s very frustrating and upsetting. 🙁 Anyway, I I look forward to your thoughts on And I Darken.

  • There is so much bad going on that I don’t know what to even do about it. The news really hasn’t been great lately and I am really praying for both the US and the UK. Why can’t we all just live in peace? For some reason we find that incredibly hard!

  • Yeah the news lately has been awful and it’s just not in the States. It’s everywhere, but we mostly just see the US news. It makes my heart ache too.

I’m really happy to see you enjoyed Lady Midnight! I love the book so much and I can’t wait for the next one. I think I’ll pick up 738 Days one of these days. I’m not in the mood for angsty right now, but when I am, I’ll definitely go for it.

I hope this week is easier on you! <3

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

It has been SUCH a sad, depressing week in terms of news, Joy! It just breaks my heart and I feel so helpless in the face of all this death and destruction. :/

Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed 738 Days and Lady Midnight as those are two on my TBR that I am looking forward to. I can’t wait to see what you think of My Lady Jane, too–I hope you love it! Also, yay for And I Darken!!! Great post, dear!
