Hey, everyone!

How has your week been? I’ve been working long hours since I’ve hurt my foot. I can’t quite walk the mile yet, so bussing is out. I keep having to rely on my husband to drive me at zero dark thirty in the morning. Then, wait for him to pick me up after work. And that man has become a workaholic as of late, so I end up staying late as well. I really hope I get my foot back to its full capacity soon, because I’m not very keen on working 12-hour days.

I went with my cousins on Friday night to watch Me Before You. I thought the movie was cast well. I especially loved Emilia Clarke’s portrayal of Louisa. She’s so spot on! She’s quirky, a natural comedian, with a penchant for clumsiness. I didn’t cry as much as I thought I would, but my cousins sure were like faucets! My God. They were sobbing. They thought I was heartless. Little do they know that the book fucked me up so bad. None of them has read the book yet but I didn’t bother recommending it because I don’t want to be the reason they would need therapy for life. Overall, it was a great movie, but as clichΓ¨ as it sounds, the book was better.

My haul this week. Yes. Let’s talk about that. Usual hi-jinx happened this weekend. It doesn’t matter how stern a talking to I give myself. All it would take is a little invitation from my husband to go to the bookstore and I’m a puppy panting with my tongue hanging out. So that’s what happened, It also happens that they had a 4 for 3 sale, so I had to get 8. I hate myself.

The good news is I got my reading mojo back. I’m so happy, y’all! I’m at nine books as of this writing which is so much more than I could hope for. I’ve slowly chipped away at my GR reading challenge. I’m only behind 6 books now instead of 10. Phew. I read 4 books this week alone and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! I also have a blog tour this week for Burn, the fourth book in The Rephaim series by Paula Weston. I sure hope you’ll stop by and read my review.

Anyway, I hope you’ll all have a great reading week!

  • Hahahah sometimes you just have to buy ALL the books, especially when they’re on sale! And I’ve heard amazing things about My Lady Jane. I was supposed to watch Me Before You, but then I just did not. I think I may wait until later when it’s out on Blu Ray. I mean, I haven’t even read the book yet! And I know if I watch the movie before I read the book, I’ll never read the book hahah.

  • I just watched Me Before You last night and it was so good! I was surprised I didn’t cry as well but yes, the book was definitely better. Lol that actually sounds like a pretty good sale Joy, don’t beat yourself up over buying things that make you happy! I hope your foot gets better soon.

  • Ohh I’m with you on Me Before You! Both in that Emilia Clarke was completely perfect and that the book was better. πŸ™‚ My sister-in-law and I bawled together–and my mom didn’t shed a tear.

  • Okay I am commenting out of order as I already read your Burn. I don’t blame you for not wanting to work 12 hour days especially if you aren’t being paid overtime. I would be tempted to go to a coffee shop or somewhere close to wait for him. Here’s hoping your leg gets better soon!

  • Adriana C

IΒ΄m looking forward to read your review of My Lady Jane.
    Enjoy all your books.

  • I was wondering about the movie of Me Before You. I think I’m going to go see it on Tuesday, so I wanted to see how people are liking it. I still need to read the book, though!! I have to read it this weekend because I don’t want to see the movie first!

    • I hope you’ll enjoy it, Nicole. Don’t forget to bring a box of tissues!

  • Montana

Wanderlost sounds so cute! That cover is gorgeous too. I’m about halfway through My Lady Jane and it’s pretty good so far. It’s definitely a pretty unique twist on history lol. I hope you enjoy all of your books! πŸ™‚

    Montana @ The Book Belles

    • Thanks, Montana! I can’t wait to read it. πŸ™‚

  • Jazmen

I may be the only person who does not want to see Me Before You. No, I haven’t read the book, which I plan to do. But the idea of seeing the movie makes me cringe. Don’t know why.

I’m SO happy you got your mojo back, yay to more reviews, and more reading!

    • Read the book instead. Jojo Moyes’ writing is phenomenal!

  • BUUUUUUURN! I can’t wait for you to read it Joy, such a great finale. I love that series.

I really hope you’re back on your feet soon. It’s a pain to have to rely on other people to pick you up and drop you off places, thank goodness you have a wonderful hubby to help out until you’ve recovered, but those 12 hour days sounds brutal. When you’re unwell, you have to treat yourself. Pretty sure it’s part of the healing process. You want to get better quickly don’t you? πŸ˜€

    • I know. Today, I had to ask my dad to pick me up from work. *sobs* Anyway, I just have to get through tomorrow. Sigh.

  • I hope your foot will get better soon! And that is an amazing stack of books πŸ˜€

    • Thank you, Tasya! And thank you for visiting.

  • shootingstarsmag

I just love that your husband invites you to the bookstore! hah Nice book haul- I haven’t been to a bookstore in awhile. I’m not sure I could hold back. I want so many of these like You Know Me Well, The Great American Whatever, My Lady Jane, and many more! Yay for getting your reading mojo back – hopefully some new titles helped with that! LOL

I hope your foot gets better soon.

    • I don’t think you should considering you just got back from BEA. Thought, that didn’t stop me when I went. Hahahah!

  • It stinks having to rely on someone to transport you around. I hope your foot heals fast!

I’m most curious about My Lady Jane from that pile since it’s written by 3 authors, two of whose books I’ve enjoyed. I wonder if the writing will feel seamless …

    • I hear some great things about My Lady Jane! Funny with a mad twist to history. πŸ™‚

  • I probably will watch Me Before You, if only to validate my Finnick and Daenerys ship. I’m glad I didn’t have to really avoid Indigo’s 3-for-4 sale like the plague because there wasn’t anything that really called for me to be purchased.

    • Why can’t Daenerys and Jon Snow happen?…It’s not a taboo, is it? I mean, i haven’t read the books and have stopped watching ever since Drago got killed, so I don’t know if it’s incest or something. Though, that shouldn’t stop them considering…

  • Damn, hope your foot hurries up. And hey, you can’t pass up a good deal, right? lol. Wanderlost was a really good one.

    • I know! I did take it for a trial walk today on account of I had to take the bus and it held up. Just a little achy. Anyway, I’m glad to hear that, because I’ve read a couple of not-so good reviews about it. Gah!

  • Glad you’re reading mojo is back! I’m thinking of picking up Me Before You next. I’m so curious!

    • Thanks, Amanda! I’m in the zone now! Lol.

  • Four for three and you ended up with eight…. ROFL!

  • Lily

Ahh i miss being in a reading mood! Lately i’ve been so ‘ehh’ when it comes to reading. it also probably doesn’t help that the few books i have picked up these last few months have been duds πŸ™
In other news, i hope you enjoy all your lovely reads!

    • Oh, I know what that’s like. I’ve had my fair share of reading ruts, so I feel your pain. I was just getting over a nasty one, actually. Let’s hope you’ll get your mojo back!

  • Yay, I’m happy you’re back into the reading mood Joy! Hopefully, your foot will be healed soon. Gah, I was so happy when my daughter got the okay to stop wearing the “boot” and it was healed completely. I can’t wait to go and grab my copy of My Lady Jane – it just sounds so fun. Enjoy all your fabulous looking reads πŸ™‚

    • Oh God. Those boots are nasty! I’m glad mine’s off, but I probably shouldn’t have rushed it. Anyway, I hope you’ll get to read My Lady Jane soon!

  • Yay, so glad you got your reading mojo back! I thought I was heading for a reading slump but NOT ANYMORE YAY! I really want to read Me Before You, I know what happens at the end, but I’ve heard such good things I still want to read it! πŸ™‚ Your new books look great and I don’t blame you for buying them – I really want to read Wanderlost and My Lady Jane! *_*

    • Thanks, Kyra! <3 Fair warning, it will destroy you.

  • Yea, don’t want to see Me Before You for that very reason. Hate sobbing. Oh and looks like a great haul! I have just read a brilliant review of My Lady Jane. Hope you enjoy it as much! I think I need to read it now. πŸ™‚ Hope you have a great week!

    • Hey, it could be a cleansing experience for you. πŸ™‚

  • I’d love to see it,, but I think I will wait for the DVD

  • Hope your foot gets better fast! Glad you saw Me Before You. I still haven’t seen the movie, much less have read the book. I hear it’s been having quite the impact on movie goers. Glad you got your reading mojo back too πŸ™‚

  • I really hate that your foot is still messing with you. /:( I really hoped that yet was doing better…. Im so happy that you got your reading mojo back! I have TOOOO! <3 And you've convinced me to do the Goodreads challenge. I'm going to start with something light so wish me luck, lovely! <3

    • Sigh. That’s all on me. I’m the stubborn one who didn’t listen when they said I need to keep it in a cast for two weeks. :/

  • I really want to see the movie Me Before You. The book totally wrecked me. I heard they did a great job with the movie, but I a sure the book was better. And yay for getting your reading mojo back! I’m so happy for you. I hope the books you’ve been reading have been good ones.

    • They did. They really did. Emilia Clarke got Louisa’s quirks down to a T. You can’t even imagine what a relief it is to finally enjoy reading again!

  • Eee, YAY for reading so much lately sweetie πŸ˜€ That is awesome! And yay for book deal πŸ˜‰ And for getting so many pretty ones. <3 I loooved My Lady Jane. SO AWESOME. Gah, I hope you will love it too. Fingers crossed πŸ™‚ Ahh, I hope your foot gets better soon sweet girl. <3 Hugs. Hope you are having an amazing day πŸ™‚

  • Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

I remember how much you liked the book (I bought it after seeing your enthusiasm) so I understand why the movie didn’t quite live up to it.
I also bought Lady Jane yesterday. I desperately need some humor. Hopefully we’ll both end up enjoying it.

    • I hope so, too. Everyone seems to be all in agreement that it’s a great book!

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the film! I know it’s been receiving a looot of backlash, particularly from the community of those with disabilities, but I’m definitely curious to see it as well. I loved My Lady Jane (it’s fabulous!) and I picked up You Know Me Well this week too. Wanderlost was not my favorite, but I know a lot of readers who loved it so it seems like I’m the black sheep when it comes to that one. I’ll be interested to see what you think! Wonderful haul, Joy, and happy reading! πŸ˜€

    • I know! And I don’t get it. I feel like they didn’t really read the book. That was not what the book is about at all. In the end, it’s all about our basic right to choose. Anyway. Gah. I bought Wanderlost because of a few good reviews on it. Bah.

  • Lol it’s so nice of you to spare your cousins πŸ˜‰ I have yet to read the book or see the movie but I’ve definitely got a box of tissues prepared for when the time comes.
I saw the 4 for 3 sale and I was super tempted!! But they didn’t have some of the books I wanted in stock so I walked away. Phewww lol! And hurray for getting your mojo back! Nine is insane!! You’re a reading machine now!

    • Ha. Hardly a reading machine! Lol. I’ve gotten back to listening audio again, so it helps. πŸ™‚

  • Totally laughed at your reaction to reading Me Before You. I have to say, I haven’t read it yet, although I’ve been thoroughly spoiled about what happens. I was literally in a Target the other day and a lady was talking about the ending at the top of her lungs. And then she started yelling about what happens in book two. Sigh.

    • Uhh yeah. The second book wasn’t worth my time, tbh. Lol.

  • It’s okay, you’re a bookaholic and we all appreciate you for it πŸ˜‰ I am so excited to see so many awesome titles in your haul this week and omg that finished copy of My Lady Jane is gorgeous. I LURVE IT. Also I hope that your foot will heal soon so you don’t have to have your husband drive you everywhere. <3

And congrats on getting your reading mojo back! I feel like I am getting mine back but it's too soon to be sureee. I've decided I need to read more romance books and that's definitely been helping πŸ™‚

    • Yes, yes. I am. And I have no shame. Lol.

  • Haha, you crack me up with your book buying.
I keep getting My Lady Jane recommended to me. Now you bought it. So, maybe I should take the recommendations more seriously.
Yay for getting your reading mojo back!! That’s awesome! And what is this Rephaim series?! Going to Goodreads…

    • Oh, it’s YA. I don’t know if it’s a thing you like, but it’s an awesome angel series that I’ve been in love with for years. πŸ™‚

  • ChristinaBookAddict

I hope your foot gets better soon! I definitely plan on reading Me Before You before I see the movie…I’m glad you enjoyed it! I just read Wanderlost this weekend and I really liked it. It made me want to plan a whirlwind trip to Europe…a girl can dream! I’m glad you got your mojo back. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Christina. And I hope you will, Christina. The book is so much better, but they did a wonderful job of doing the film regardless.

  • kindlemom1

The books usually are better, at least in my opinion but I’m so glad it was still a really good movie. I can’t wait to see it.
Yay for getting your reading mojo back!

    • Right? It’s been such a long time since I’ve been inspired to read!

  • “It also happens that they had a 4 for 3 sale, so I had to get 8. I hate myself.” Oh Joy, I couldn’t help but smile πŸ˜€ I also have heard a lot about Wanderlost and also My Lady Jane so I hope you’ll like them! I’m looking forward to finally reading Me Before You. 7 exams in these next 5 days are keeping me away but my reward will be reading that when I am done and hopefully binge-reading through the whole thing.

So happy you got your reading mojo back and I can’t wait to hear about all the good books you’ve been reading πŸ˜€

    • I wish you the best of luck, Olivia! Summer is almost here, so yay! No school means more time to read for you!
