May sucked donkey balls.

I can’t believe I only read 3 books in May. THREE. BOOKS. Okay, four. But The Mistake I Made by Paula Daly was a re-read. So I don’t think it counts. Certainly not towards my Goodreads Challenge – where I’m sorely lagging behind by 10. I mentioned yesterday that I made like a sloth this month and completely disappeared for a week. I just…I don’t know. I was feeling maudlin and didn’t really feel like doing anything. Needless to say, I’m scared to see what my TBR Differential is like in May.

BEST OF MAY: Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

BOOKS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO IN JUNE:

26210464 24154660-1

I wish you all the best of June! Summer is upon us so lots of outdoor reading. Have a fun summer, y’all!

  • Haha! Yes, I can see why you don’t want to talk about it! 21 books in and only a couple read… frustrating!

  • Aw πŸ™ I’m so sorry May wasn’t all that good : But three books aka four is still better than none πŸ˜€ YAAAY! And reading awesome books too, hih, so yay for that πŸ™‚ I hope June is much more better for you Joy. <3 All the hugs. Happy reading too πŸ™‚

  • My TBR list on Goodreads is at 580…so don’t feel bad, haha. May was a crap month for reading for me as well. Work + sick = much sleep sleep, no reading. Here’s to a better June!

  • Haha I’m pretty sure I only read like 2 books in May so you’re still ahead of me! I really need to pick up the pace, I’m two books behind my Goodreads challenge and that gives me anxiety.

  • There is just something going on lately. I am with you and just haven’t felt like doing anything. I read a few more books than you did but I haven’t ready many more. I think that sometimes these moods just happen and it means that it is time or a break. Enjoy your new books πŸ™‚

  • Wow, that’s a lot of books Joy! I have so many books oh the tbr to read that I have just stopped stressing about it, it will happen if it happens and we have real life to focus on. Good luck for June!

  • Donkey balls is quite specific Joy, I think this month has been balls all round sadly. I’m teetering on falling behind on my challenge too and during the past month have received over 35 unsolicited review copies now as well, but have shelved them all to read whatever I want. I feel a bit lost at the moment and not enthused about blogging. I just have to get back into the rhythm of going it alone again which’ll take a bit of time I think.

  • If my reading standards are a benchmark for successful reading/blogging, THEN YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL WITH YOUR 3 BOOKS, JOY.

  • I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump myself but life happens and I’m learning to just go with the flow. Glad you did read some! Count the victories πŸ™‚

    Enjoy your week!

    • True, true. Like what Melissa said, it’s four books more than someone who was not able to read anything last month! πŸ™‚ Thanks for visiting! I’ll be sure to pop by your blog.

  • Well, sometimes life demands attention. i know it has from me lately. Still 4 books is better than none. πŸ˜€ Especially for our sanity.

    • That’s true. I’ll take it, I suppose. πŸ™‚

  • Gosh I had t realised there’s another Darynda Jones is out. I love that series but I so so need to catch up as I got stuck at 6! But it’s one of my favourite UF series to date! Happy Reading.

    • Girl, watchu waiting for? Seriously. I can’t stand waiting!

  • I’m seriously lagging behind as well. I have so many books in my tbr pile and that’s because of writing, mostly. Hope June will be better for us πŸ™‚

    • Oh, well. You have a better excuse than I do. Keep on writing, girl! That’s more important. πŸ™‚

  • I barely read in May too and I’m not as ahead in my challenge as I was, so I know the feeling! Just remember reading is fun, so don’t pressurise yourself too much πŸ™‚

    • Thank you! That sure is a good thing to think about whenever I’m feeling depressed.

  • WOAHHH! What a book haul! And ahh don’t be too hard on yourself about being behind. I set my challenge low this year because I knew it wouldn’t be as easy for me to read as much as I did last year and best decision ever, because I’ve now completed the challenge.
I hope you have a good June! πŸ™‚

    • I know. But I’m determined not to go crazy this month! And thank you!

  • Denise Baer

I’m looking forward to reading Salt by the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, which I just ordered, and Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee is on my TBR list.

    http://baerbookspress.com/blog/

    • Oh, I hope you’ll love it, Denise! Such a wonderful book.

  • A re-read totally counts … you just need to somehow mark it twice or something on GR. Oooo Tenth Grave! Need! Obviously I’m looking forward to it too. That is certainly a lot in the inbox.

    • Lol. Is that even possible? Oh, well. Four is still a depressing number considering I took home 25 books this month. My numbers should be reversed.

  • Ahh, so many great books in your inbox. A Court of Mist and Fury was great. I really need to get Salt to the Sea so I can read it soon!

    • Yes, you need it, Cynthia! It’s such a wonderful book!

  • I hadn’t read a book in almost 2 months so 3 books is better than I did!

  • Melliane

Oh so many new ones! I’m starting Charley

    • Yay! The 10th book?

      • Melliane

yes! I did read 1 chapter

  • Cannot wait for the Charley Davidson book!

  • shootingstarsmag

I’m just ready for my pool to officially open because I LOVE to read in the pool and that’s how I get most of my summer reading done. I like to read outside, but I can’t just sit in the hot sun and do it. Gah. haha Sorry May wasn’t a great reading month for you but hopefully June will be much better! It happens!!

    -Lauren

    • I can’t either. And the sun hurts my eyes, but if I put on my sunglasses, I get sleepy. Lol.

  • Oh gosh, I’m sure I’m with you! I came home with 3 or 4 books Saturday and 5 Sunday, so… Perils of working in a bookstore! I will admit I’m ahead on my Goodreads challenge, though! Admittedly, I only challenged myself to 100 books this year, but I may be able to raise it at this rate. Sometimes life just gets in the way of reading–stinks, but it’s true! πŸ™‚

    • I can’t even imagine how many books I will take home if I were working at a bookstore. Gah.

  • I have read one of your books you received-Far Gone. The rest are new to me-I think. Don’t be mad but I think I am twenty books ahead on my GoodReads challenge. However, that includes at least 4 DNFs, two re-reads and lots of novellas so that number is really skewed! Don’t beat yourself up about only 3(4) books for May! You also started a new job, redid a bunch of stuff in your house, painted etc. Oh and completely moved out of your cabin. I am in awe of all you got done in May!

    • Oh, Lorna. Thank you for reminding me about all the things I’ve accomplished while being unproductive at the same time. The perspective sure is a nice feeling.

  • Woot Darynda πŸ™‚

  • That’s alright! I think it’s okay to have those set back months where you have a step away from everything and a bit of a break. Don’t feel too guilty. Book hoarders are book hoarders. We’re just doing what we do (at least, this is what I tell myself) and if those buys made you happy than they are worth something! Also, it sounds like you read three good books this month (and I DEFS count the reread) so it’s still quite a number ^.^ Remember, the average person only reads six books a year…

    • This is true, Olivia. But considering I was already at 100 mark this time last year, the paltry 51 books is not sitting well with me. *sobs*

  • Jazmen

I am right with you sister! I think I’m 15 books behind, so yay you’re doing better than me–at least. You got a crap load of books that came in, maybe one of them will bring you back into your groove. I’m hoping for you!

    • Sigh. I hope so, too, Jaz. We need to quit our jobs and read for a living.

      • Jazmen

        Word!

  • We all have these months and it’s okay! There are worse things then having too many books coming in. πŸ˜‰ You’ll get your reading groove back. At least you read Salt to the Sea, because it is so wonderful. I got a copy of The Girl in the Blue Coat after you mentioned it in another post!

    • Eeep! Let’s hope it’s good, Brandie. I had to set it aside because I have a couple of books on my currently reading shelf on GR. But I really want to pick it up soon.

  • ChristinaBookAddict

I hear you. I am four books behind my Goodreads challenge. Let’s hope we both can read more in June! I’m glad you enjoyed Salt to the Sea – one of my favorite books of the year!

    • I really need to get back to listening to audiobooks. Last year, I got to my reading goal in August! That’s two months from now. Different this year, for sure. I love, love Salt to the Sea! I can’t wait to read the rest of her books. πŸ™‚

  • May was an okay reading month for me. I read… eight books. I’m definitely behind on my reading challenge, but I usually don’t start sweating over that until late fall. Heh. Here’s to June!

    • Here’s to June, indeed. I was looking at my monthly rewind posts in the last year and I’m so amazed that I was reading 17-23 books a month. Can you imagine?! That’s insane.

  • karina

I am 16 books behind in my challenge, so you are doing better, J.!:-) just change the number on the challenge to stop stressing about it, sweetheart x but honestly, craps like that happens from time to time, it’s okay, we are here for you xx

    • Oh wow. Okay, now I don’t feel so bad. Lol. Let’s catch up together, K!

  • Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

Well, at least The Raven King and Salt to the Sea were really, really good. And I look forward to Charley as well! It showed up on Netgalley just days ago, I hope they approve soon. I can’t wait to see what new trouble she’s managed to find herself in. I hope June will be a better month for you.

    • Maja! You know what I did this morning before I left for work? I requested Charley’s #10. I saw your comment on my email and I squealed because I didn’t realize it’s up. So thank you!!!! <3 I hope I'll get approved. Eeep.
