Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 179

On the Edge of Gone by Corinne Duvis | A Totally Awkward Love Story by Tom Ellen and Lucy Ivison | Unbecoming by Jenny Downham | The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson | The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi | A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Belated Happy Mother’s Day to all of you! I hope you know how much your existence is very much appreciated. The world will literally stop dead on its tracks without all of you. Who will find all the missing socks, shirts, pants, sense of humor, and heads if all you lovely people aren’t around? It was a normal day for me. No day off to speak of, but that’s totally my choice. If I have to wait for anyone to do the dishes, do the laundry and clean the house, we will all live in a pig sty. Also, I don’t tolerate clutter and messes all that well, so I’m the one who suffers the most if the housework gets neglected. I did all that and managed to schedule some posts on the blog.

Good news! My cast is off! Good Lord. You can’t imagine how good it feels to have it off. On Wednesday night, as I was getting ready for another night of itchy, smelly, restless sleep, I consulted with my cousins (who are nurses, btw) and asked them if Urgent Care would take my cast off if I told them I’m 60% sure I have gangrene on my foot (long story that involved a metal chopstick). They said it’s probably not advisable but try anyway. I went there at 8 at night and eventually got seen at 4 in the morning. I was determined. I figured  I can’t do another week of this smelly hell. So I sat there and waited. I didn’t get much sleep, so I called in sick on Thursday. It feels soooo good, you guys! I’m still walking a little daintily, but anything is better than being in a cast.

My Mother’s Day celebration is pretty much what we’ve been doing every year. Husband takes me to the bookstore, I get to play queen for a day or two, then it’s business as usual. We had lunch on Saturday and had a backyard barbeque on Sunday. All in all, a great weekend. There was a moment of sadness there because it was our first weekend without the choice of heading to the lake. But it’s time to move on and I’m helping my husband cope with that. Anyway, I hope you all had a great weekend.

I had such a weird reaction to this book. My review will be up this week. I’m slowly getting into the groove of things again, so expect more posts from now on…or not. Lol.

Have a great week, everyone!

  • Having the cast removed must be such a relief! Did you accidentally stab yourself with a metal chopstick?! Ack! No! Can’t think of that. Thinking of torn ligaments or muscles or broken bones makes me cringe. Hrk!

  • Awww it sounds like you had a lovely mother’s day and that your cast is off, it must have been so annoying! I’m really curious to hear about your weird reaction lol, but I guess I’ll have to find out when I finish reading the series!

  • Haha! Sounds like the best Mother’s Day! Get to play queen for a day or two, love it!
Glad that your cast is off, I can’t imagine how annoying it would be.
A Court of Mist and Fury!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am almost finished it! I love that series, and this book OMG!

  • Oh, it sounds like you had a pretty nice, relaxing mother’s day-weekend (at this stage, can you tell that I’m catching up with a couple of your blog posts, Joy? This is the last, no more Romi comments tonight! *laughs*). For a while now I’ve really been craving a weekend that I can dedicate entierly to reading, and no matter how I want it- maybe even just a day- it never seems to happen, and I’m not quite sure why. I really do need to get in gear, because those days where you drift along and just enjoy yourself without having anything particular to do, or maybe without having specific plans, they’re so nice.

You got your cast off! I hope there are no future problems and you continue to heal OK. It sounds like it’s been a pretty nasty part of your year, so hopefully things only get better from here-on-in. xx

  • A Court of Mist and Fury was glorious. On the Edge of Gone was pretty good as well, and I hear the Star Touched Queen is a must read 🙂 Enjoy!

  • Glad you were able to get the cast off.

  • I couldn’t believe they put you in a cast for a torn ACL! I have seen soft sided things that you could take off easily but not an actual cast. Plus you aren’t supposed to put a cast on anymore until you stop swelling. Can get very painful! So I am happy you got it off! Glad you had a good Mother Day weekend!

  • Happy belated Mother’s Day to you too! My youngest had an arm cast for a few months in the fall and she was so happy (but freaked out) when it came off!

  • Glad you got that funky cast off! Really looking forward to your thoughts on A Court of Mist and Fury (and whether or not there’s a love triangle…)!

  • You sound as if you celebrate Mother’s Day every weekend. You know..JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE SHOPS FOR JOY’S [BOOK] HAULING ADVENTURES.

  • Jazmen

Lol. Glad you got your cast off. I can feel your relief lol. I really have been struggling to review but not to read. I feel like a mess. I can’t wait to see your reviews!

  • Smelly?!?! Hahahaha… I’m not laughing at you, it’s just hell to be so uncomfortable and a little stinky at the same time. In any case, that’s the best MDay’s “gift” you could ever have. Please be careful next time

  • Great to hear that its off and can imagine the relief

  • Yea, a cast isn’t good with a open wound. Sounds like you were okay! Good! Hope you still had a good mom’s day.

Now you have me curious about the Raven King. All ending books tend to make me nervous since they are often the weakest. 🙁

  • It was gangrene!?

  • shootingstarsmag

Happy Belated Mothers Day! Glad you had a nice day and was able to get some new books. Yay for the cast coming off. Gosh, I don’t know how I’d handle a cast. I’ve only ever had braces. haa

  • YAAAY for cast being off 😀 That is just AWESOME. Hope full healing will move fast 🙂 And aw, happy belated mother’s day sweetie. <3 Hope it was the best day for you 😀 YAY! You are awesome. And yay for so many gorgeous books 🙂 I must read The Star-Touched Queen sometime soonish. I hope you will have an awesome week. <3

  • I know I’m late in saying this but HAPPY LATE MOTHER’S DAY! Im gaud you guys had such a relaxing time and I hope you were treated like the queen you are! <3 And that cast! YAYYY! I'm so glad it's off because I know how much you hated it. (Although, now you have me slightly curious about this metal chop stick??)

  • Congratulations on getting the cast off and happy mother’s day! I look forward to reading your reviews of those hauled books! 😀

  • kindlemom1

Yay for getting the cast off and having a wonderful weekend, so glad you made the most of it and celebrated instead of being sad about the cabin. 😀 And as far as messes go, I’m the SAME way! I love my family but seriously, they do not pick up after themselves and clutter drives me absolutely insane. It just isn’t worth it to me to take a day off so to speak from not doing at least something. I did go light on the cleaning though and that’s fine, that is what today is for right?
    Happy belated Mother’s Day Joy!

  • I’m glad the cast is off and you’re feeling better!! That’s great news. Enjoy your new books – I have been debating if I even want to continue ACOTAR series or not. I enjoyed the first book enough. I’ve also never read a Matson book!
Happy belated Mother’s Day to you!

  • Wohoo for getting the cast off, Joy. I can imagine how much more comfortable you are. Good luck on the recovery. 🙂
You got some really exciting books too.
And your mothers day celebration definitely sounds like it’s relaxing and fun. I hope you had the best time and you were showered with love all day and all year!

  • YAY! Just make sure you take care Joy and no running or acrobats or walking fast. Probably best not to hop. Or jump actually. Maybe just sit.

Happy mothers day! Women don’t generally get time off from the housework unless we’re missing limbs. I’m the same Joy, I don’t like living in filth, so even if I’ve been almost dying via flu, I still get up and shower and try to vacuum. A BBQ sounds like a great way to spend the day. I must admit, I’m really intrigued about what you thought of The Raven King. Personally I’ve never been able to finish book one, but Kynn has so many issues with the finale too. I’m secretly hoping you didn’t like it. I love those reviews when you get all huffy 😀

  • Haha I’m glad you were able to get rid of the cast! I’ve never been in a cast myself but I imagine that I would really, really hate it >.> And I hope you did have a good mothers day. It’s always a plus to have some new books as well. Looking forward to seeing some of those posts you were able to get up and scheduled ahead.
