Reflection: Jellicoe Road

“It’s funny how you can forget everything except people loving you. Maybe that’s why humans find it so hard getting over love affairs. It’s not the pain they’re getting over, it’s the love.”

I couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate quote to go along with this post. Jellicoe Road is not an easy book to read. First of all, you’ll have to figure out the story within the story and try to separate it from what’s presently going on. And this novel is an emotional  heavyweight. If you’re not ready for the onslaught of angst, you’ll never be able to appreciate it in all its glory. So yes, whenever I decide to reread this book, it’s not the pain it lends that keeps me coming back. It’s the love that won’t let me forget.

  • Sweet quote Joy. I can see why you love this book.

  • Adriana C

I read this book years ago and I loved it so much! I also loved saving Francesca and The Piper´s Son….maybe I need to reread them.
    Loved the quote.

  • I don’t know what this one is about. Sounds pretty sad? Or just angst filled maybe. Enjoy!

  • Court.Fool

I think I like Saving Francesca more than Jellicoe Road, but it’s a hard choice to make. Both are uh-mazing.

  • Ahh, stunning post Joy. <3 I love this book so much. And I love that you do too, hih. Love that quote. <3 And that picture is so so so gorgeous 😀 YAY for re-reading this precious. <3 I must do it soon too, I suppose, hih. I hope you are doing good sweet girl. <3

  • Every time I see a list of someone’s all-time favorite books, Jellicoe Road is always in the top 5. I definitely need to pick this up. I love emotional stories, and I’m so intrigued by the aspect of ” figuring out the story within a story ” so I’m adding this to my TBR for this month! Or next, you never know with me lol.

  • I’ve always wanted to pick up this book Joy, but I’m just not a huge contemporary fan. This does sound lovely though, especially when I’m seeking something that’s more meaningful. <3

  • Ohh, this book! I remember the first time one of my friends got me to read Melina Marchetta, and I pretty much read all of her books one after the other.

  • One of my favourite books of all time. It was a revelation to read. <3

  • I love your photo, this book isn’t for me. I don’t like angst at all

  • Beautiful quote and lovely cover!

  • Jazmen

I picked this up long long ago and I’m gonna pick it up when I’m in my contemporary mood!

  • What a fantastic quote! I have seen a lot of people praising this book. I may try to pick it up soon just because of the quote you shared.

  • Ooh I’m intrigued. I love stories filled with angst so this sounds right up my alley. Nice pic too 🙂

  • shootingstarsmag

Lovely thoughts on this book. I still need to read it. It sounds like something I would really adore though.

  • I read this one a few years ago and since borrowing it from the library I have been longing for my own copy myself and want to own it! The moment I do that I am going to reread it for sure and experience it all over again. I also need to read some more of this author’s books DD:

  • This is definitely one I want to read! I’ve heard so many great things about this author. I want to start her Finnikin books but need to find a copy of the first book lol….

  • Love this post and love this
book. So sad and so powerful…

  • I don’t think I’ve heard of this book! I love that quote though. Might need to pick it up when I find myself ready for an emotionally intense read. 🙂

  • kindlemom1

I actually think I love that there is so much to this story, thinking wise and emotionally. Wonderful quote too, very powerful. 😉

  • Oh what a lovely quote! This really is a powerful book. This is the only book I’ve read from her though and I need to change that ASAP.

  • I need to do a re-read. I’ve only read Jellicoe once. Love your picture. This cover is my favorite and the one I own. I wonder if there is an audio version. Hmm…

I’m definitely not ready for an onslaught of angst Joy, I’m in full on light and fluffy mode and have been for a while now, but I do hope to get to this one day! Everyone just raves about it and I definitely don’t want to miss out:) So glad it was such a stand out read for you:)

I adore this novel but haven’t been able to re-read it in a really long time. This is reminding me, though, of all the amazing qualities in this book, not to mention Jonah Griggs. I can’t wait to make time for a re-read of this sometime soon. Beautiful reflection, Joy!

  • I’ve heard a lot of great things about this book. I don’t even know what it’s about. You have me curious – if it’s a re-read for you, it must be a good one.

  • I’ve never read this book. I’m really glad that you’ve enjoyed it so much to revisit several times.

I struggled with Jellicoe Road many years ago, but I should probably try to revisit it again b/c she’s is such an awesome author. I’m glad you are enjoying your re-read!

  • I definitely need to add this to my GR’s TBR, it sounds so amazing!

  • Aww so beautiful Joy! It took me a while to get into the story because I had to make sense of the two stories. But once I did it was beautiful! ♡

  • That was beautiful Joy <3

I tired reading Jellicoe a few years ago and at the time, I just couldn't get into it. At the time I wasn't reading many contemporaries and it just felt like a lot of hard work. Then I discovered Looking for Alibrandi and Saving Francesca and adored them both. I think it's about time I picked this one back up and tried again. You haven't steered me wrong yet Joy <3

Hope everything is okay sweetheart <3

  • I have heard only good things
