The Year that Was

FullSizeRender-23

And what a year it was! 2015 marked the fourth year of my blogging career. Looking back, I never expected to last this long. There were days when I really couldn’t find it in me to read, much less blog, but through your patronage and kind words, I persevered. It wasn’t easy to drown out that voice in my head that told me to quit every few months, but heck, some of you are just terrifying. I’ve gotten threats of bodily harm if I quit, and some of you even threatened to end their lives (not true). So I figure, there’s nothing else going on in my life, so I might as well stick to a community where I’m wanted.

GOODREADS TOTAL

At the beginning of the year, I set a goal of 150 books to read. I’ve met and surpassed this goal by August. As of this writing, I’m at 206 books for the year. And I’m not looking to add more. Even though I could’ve added more to this total, I decided to leave the total as it is.Β

According to Goodreads, my average rating for 2015 is 3.6 stars. That’s a bit stingy even by my standards. Yikes. I’ll try to do better in 2016, I promise!

IN THE YEAR 2016

I hoped to finish some books I downloaded on Audible that I started and didn’t finish. I’m hoping I will be able to resist the temptation of downloading any more books before I finish these: audible3 audible2 audible I want to be more organized on the blog. I bought an organizer to help me sort through my posts. According to what I’ve written down so far, I should be well ahead of the game until Jan 22. I have written down what’s coming up on the blog, I just have to draft the posts. Lol.

There are a lot of things I can improve on in the coming year, but I think I’ll just fly by the seat of my pants. I’m looking forward to reading what you guys got up to in 2015. I wish you all the best of the coming year!

  • You’ve had another impressive year! 200 books in only a year, I can’t even wrap my mind around that. Congratulations on a successful year of reading and writing, I’m glad to see that you are doing so well with your blog.

  • I’m extremely glad that you didn’t listen to that voice and give up blogging, I love reading your posts! πŸ™‚ I am absolutely awestruck by the amount of books you managed to read last year! I’m also impressed, that you didn’t abandon a single book. Happy New Year! I look forward to continuing to read your great reviews and other posts during this coming year. πŸ™‚

  • Happy New Year, Joy! Good luck
with you goals! I like your organizer, I think I need one myself.

  • Happy New Year! Awesome job on your Goodreads challenge, I had to really struggle in the end there to finish mine-I might have read some short stories to get there πŸ˜‰

  • karina

  • Great job on your reading goals! Happy New Year!

  • I’m so glad you’ve persevered throughout the year, although you’ve had ups and downs Joy! I love that idea of the planner for your blogging, I’ve had my eye on a planner for this too at kikki k. I hope you have a lovely year Joy!

  • Montana @ The Book Belles

Oh my gosh, you did so good reading-wise in 2015 πŸ™‚ You’re one of my favorite bloggers, so I’m so happy you’re sticking around! The Wrath and the Dawn and Poison Princess are both fantastic reads. Happy New Year! πŸ™‚

    Montana @ The Book Belles

  • lol – Yes, we are terrifying, and don’t you forget it. Glad you’ve stuck around though, and hope 2016 is better.

  • Ha – 2015 was my fourth blogging year too and I’m (barely sometimes) still here too. I’m glad you are sticking around because I really love the honesty in your posts. Don’t give in to Goodreads Star Inflation!!!
    Jen @ YA Romantics

    • Lol. I try not to, but sometimes I feel like I’m not being fair. ^ . ^

  • Yowza- four years of blogging? Congratulations! I’m so glad you stuck to blogging this year – I really enjoy reading your thoughts, sharing book recs and generally interacting with you! I hope you encounter some fabulous stories this year. <3

  • Happy New Year Joy! I have enjoyed reading your posts this year and hope to for the year coming up! No intimidation here. lol YAY for all those books you read!

    • Thank you, Lorna. I enjoy reading your reviews over at Rabid Reads as well. πŸ˜€ Happy New Year!

  • Jazmen

Happy New Year Joy! I got a planner as well. But I’m planning on narrowing down my ARCS but what I do have I want to organize. GIRL you read a lot of books. I aimed for 200 but no dice. Looking forward to your reviews and other posts!

    • I don’t request a lot of ARCs. Mostly, I just wait until publishers contact me. Good luck with your reading challenge this year!

  • Happy New Year! And I’m glad you decided to keep blogging because I love reading your posts! Also WOW, that’s amazing that you read so many books, well done!

  • Happy New Year! i can’t believe 2015 has gone so fast. Haha. Congrats on your book challenge how do you read so much. One thing I’d like to start doing is too really try audiobooks. I’ve never tried them properly to be honest. Do you use audiable?

    • I’ve started a organiser too. And I love it. Haha. Just need to write them. Haha,

    • Audiobooks certainly help! You can multi-task and get ahead of your reading challenges at the same time. Happy New Year to you, Emma!

  • Woo for 206 books! I originally aspired to 150, but had to downgrade to 100 because I just wasn’t reading at the rate I wanted to. Those audiobooks would help a lot if my attention didn’t stray so easily. When do you listen to them??

I’m trying the planner method too! I needed one for work and all the events we’ve got going on anyway, so I picked up a pretty Lilly Pulitzer one–the prettier the planner the more likely it’ll stick with me! πŸ˜€ I hope you have a wonderful 2016, Joy!

    • Oh Rachel. Audiobooks are perfect when I’m doing menial, mindless tasks. When I’m doing house work most specifically. I also do it on my desk when I’m at work. I’m lucky enough that my employers are so accommodating to all my bookish idiosyncrasies that I can work and listen at the same time. Lol.

I’ve bought myself a Kate Spade one. It’s pretty, too!

  • RO

Kudos on meeting your goals, and excellent on trying to be more organized. I’ve got a long way to go. (lol) Hugs…

  • World After was so good! Congrats on a great year of reading!

    • That’s what I keep hearing! For a self-professed fan of the series, I can’t believe I’ve dragged my heels for so long. I really need to read/listen to this book so I can finally put it to rest.

  • Joy, I am so so glad you didn’t leave us last year. And just so you know, whenever you do need a break we’ll be right here waiting for you to return as well <3 You had a good year last year and did an awful lot of reading. Hope you can be more organised just as you want ^.^

    • I’m hoping. I think scheduling is half the battle, the real trick is to actually follow through. I wish you the best of luck as well, Olivia!

  • Happy New Year, Joy! Over 200 books is pretty amazing! (I barely managed to reach 100, which is my lowest number in recent years) And random, but can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Night Circus, I’ve been in limbo on that one since forever (want to read it…not sure, I might not like it… but, but what if I’m missing out on a great book….)
Anyway, good luck with getting a bit more organised (it is one of my goals for 2016 too, but we will see how it goes) πŸ˜€

    • And my average is 3.8, so yeah πŸ˜‰

    • Psssh. You were all over the world last year! Seriously. I want your life. πŸ˜€

  • shootingstarsmag

I’m glad you decided to stick with blogging!! I have a paper planner for my blog posts too. I got a new one for 2016 and I just write down what is already scheduled on certain days or what I NEED to schedule. It really does help!

    -Lauren

    • I just started and I’m finding that it is quite helpful. It makes me stick to a plan and if an idea pops into my head, I quickly right it down on my planner. So far, so good!

  • Nicole Hewitt

Good luck with getting more organized in 2016! That’s always my biggest challenge too. Feel free to link this up to my Monthly and Year-End Wrap-Up Round-Up if you’d like (I’m including year-end wrap-ups since we’re all doing that this month!).

    • Crap! I keep forgetting to sign up! I know you’ve mentioned it before. I will put a note on my organizer. πŸ˜€

      • Nicole Hewitt

No worries – sorry if I’m mentioned it more than once! πŸ™‚

  • Happy New Year! Your 2015 was very productive reading wise (I’m forever amazed at those that manage to get into three figures, gosh!) My average rating was 3.9 this year which surprised me, I had a spate of 2 star books toward the end which might have put me off a bit lol

I hope 2016 is a great year for you πŸ™‚ Good luck with those audiobooks!

    • Thank you! These audiobooks are the bane of my existence nowadays. I really need to listen to them before I can move on.

  • Happy New Year! Looks like you had a great year. I read 168 books, many being novellas. 97 were audiobooks. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2016. Here’s to a great 2016.

    • Happy New Year to you, too, Melanie! Looking forward to reading some good paranormal recommendations from you. πŸ˜€

  • Yay πŸ˜€ You are awesome Joy. <3 Happy new year sweetie πŸ™‚ My average rating this year was 4.2, lol. I read most 5 star reads πŸ™‚ But you read 100 books more than me.. ahh! You are awesome πŸ˜€ I hope you will read lots this year too sweet girl. <3 Hugs. I adore you. And your blog. And I hope you will never stop blogging πŸ™‚

    • You lucky duck! I so wish all my reads were as awesome! Happy New Year, hun!

  • Melliane

Happy new year my friend and I hope 2016 will be a wonderful year for you. I know it wasn’t that easy…

  • My average is 3.1 mouwhahahahahaha

  • Congratulations on reaching your 4th year! I’ve only had my blog for 6 months so I really admire how long you’ve been doing this for, Joy! 206 is an amazing number of books and you’re absolutely right in not forcing yourself to read more. I hope 2016 treats you well!
    Jenna @ Happy Indulgence

    • Thanks, Jenna! I wish you the best of 2016 as well. πŸ˜€

  • 3.6 is a pretty solid rating! And good luck to your organizing shenanigans. Last week, I scheduled posts for this week and it felt good but now things are caught up and I have nothing coming up. So the content curating stress returns…

    • That’s a problem, isn’t it? I get into those days as well when I don’t finish any books and I’ve got nothing to write about. Lol.
