Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 169

Their Fractured Light by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner | The Unquiet Past by Kelley Armstrong | Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín

How are you, folks? This warm December is tripping my brain into thinking that Christmas has gone and passed. When in reality, we’re about less than 3 weeks away! Love the Spring-like temperatures my city is experiencing at the moment, but it’s been a little scary as well. Yesterday, hubby and I did a little Christmas shopping without our coats on. I can hardly believe it. Thanks to El Niño, the paltry snow that accumulated in the last month or so have pretty much melted off. Really weird.

The past week, I’ve managed to return to my regularly scheduled programming. I have blogged and visited as much as I could. Let’s hope this week will remain the same.

  • Winter [The Lunar Chronicles, #4] was a fantastic ending to a favourite series of mine. I’m so sad to see it ends, but such is life.
  • Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick tested my patience. You can read my review here.
  • Steal Me by Lauren Layne

I posted four reviews last week and the 168th Hoarders Episode. I figure I’m fine with this kind of schedule. I wish I can do more, but nowadays, I only have the energy to write book reviews.

I’m looking for a blog redesign, y’all. So if you guys can recommend someone, I’ll be forever thankful!

  • I haven’t worn my coat at all this year-just my hoodie a few times. I was expecting a horrible winter-hope I didn’t just jinx myself! We were in the 70s all weekend. Unreal. Hope your new job is going well 🙂

  • I can’t believe Christmas is less than 2 weeks away, that is freaking scary! I hope you enjoy TFL, it’s such a beautiful ending to the series.

  • I’m still waiting for Their Fractured Light to arrive! UGH this is the last time I preorder a book. They never arrive on time 🙁

  • Ahhh, so jealous of your heat 😀 Yay for not too cold, lol. <3 Here it is always cold, ugh :p I'm so excited about Christmas. <3 And yay for getting such gorgeous books last week Joy 🙂 Their Fractured Light is so gorgeous. <3 Sigh. I must read it this month 🙂 Happy reading sweetie. <3

  • I’ve heard good things about Their Fractured Light… hope you enjoy it!

  • Oooh, I can’t wait to see your thoughts on Their Fractured Light. We have the decorations up, some gifts are starting to come in thanks to Amazon free shipping, lol, and my husband has been working non-stop on a antique train around our Christmas tree for our daughters to enjoy. Blows smoke out and everything, lol!! Hope you enjoy your family time – goes so fast right?!!

  • I need to make time for Winter and the novella right before it. It’s been in the high 60s here, but actually feels warmer. It’s nice a sunny, so I cool with it for now. lol

  • You sounds as though you might be having an Aussie Christmas this year Joy, we all swelter and usually dream about snow too. Although our summer so far in my part of the country has been icky, it’s so humid that we all have frizzy mop heads like Sideshow Bob. I’m so glad you’ve had a much better week than previous weeks too, hopefully you’ve passed that turning point and it’s only all good things from here Joy.

If you’re only after a banner type design, give me a shout if you want me to give it a go. I’ve made over a few blogs and although I can’t code for WordPress, I can help out with purdy stuff <3

  • shootingstarsmag

I’d love to do a full redesign of the blog, but alas, don’t really have the time to work with someone nor do I have the extra money. One of these days though! Glad you’re back on blogging schedule. 🙂

  • Their Fracture Light has such a pretty cover! Enjoy!

    • Thank you! I hope I’ll enjoy it, too. 🙂

  • Resigning is fun although I don’t have the budget to hire someone so it’s DIY for me hehehe… Well there’s always Parajunkee and Nose Graze top of my head. Kimba’s designer sounds awesome too!

    • I only wish I can do it on my own. Unfortunately, I know nothing about graphic design. Thanks, B!

  • What kind of re-design are you looking for? a banner? if you email me and let me know I may or may not be able to help 😉

    • Just looking to freshen up my design. I find it hard to make any changes on this theme so I want to change it to something else. Looking for a banner, body design, change the fonts…that kind of thing. Do you know anyone?

      • I use the tweak me theme by ashley, but I do all the graphics by myself. If there is a vision you have in mind let me know, maybe its something I can do for you

  • A blog redesign? Now that sounds like it has the potential to be very interesting! I am looking forward to seeing something come to fruition from that. And I have Winter but haven’t started reading it yet because I am pretty scared about ending it. Everyone is loving it but I don’t know… I just love the series SO MUCH. Usually I don’t feel like this and don’t understand people who avoid the finale book but I think in this case I really do.

    • Ohh you should read it soon, Oiivia! So freaking good!

  • Fractured Light sounds good, I hope that you enjoy and have a good week

  • kindlemom1

It is always hard saying good bye to a beloved series! Glad it ended so well though, that is a huge bonus!
I hope you like the reads you have planned!!

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

I’m in the middle of Winter right now so I’m glad you think it was a satisfying conclusion. I’m enjoyed it so far so I’m excited to finish it soon. I’m really excited for Their Fractured Light, though, too. I can’t wait to see what you make of it. Wonderful haul, Joy!

    • Thank you, Keertana! I hope you’ll love Winter. It sounds like you’re still on the fence. Lol.

  • Jenny @ Supernatural Snark

This warm weather is really throwing me off too Joy, I’m a winter girl through and through so I don’t know what to do with myself at the moment. I feel like I need to book a flight to somewhere there’s snow!

Can’t wait to see what you think of Their Fractured Light, all the reviews I’ve read so far have been hugely positive so I have high hopes for it:)

    • Hahah! It’s probably nice to spend Christmas sans snow. Interesting, at least. 🙂

  • I’m just counting down to Christmas morning. I did all of my shopping online, and have about 4 more gifts to buy. I guess I shall venture out into public for those. Ugh! Before you know it, New Years will be upon us.

    • Lucky! I wish I can do that. I have to scour the web for some deals. Sigh.

  • I still haven’t get a copy of Winter since local bookstores are so slow… ugh. I’ve been reading so many great things about it!!

    • I hope you’ll savour it, czai. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

  • RO

Time creeps up like crazy when we need it be a longer day, right? Kudos for getting back on track. You know I enjoy your wittiness and thoughts, even if you can’t fit in a review.(lol) Hugs…RO

    • Aw. Ro, you’re the sweetest! Thank you. <3

  • Seriously, your blogging schedule is an inspiration and an aspiration to me. It tend to write blog posts in little jets. When I have the time I’ll put out like three at a time. No. Your method is much better. Evenly distributed and regular.

    • I usually do my drafting on Sunday. Like, the whole day. Lol. It helps when I warn my family before hand that I will be writing the whole day. They tend to leave me alone.

  • Jazmen

The weather here has been okay, decent–not too cold so I’m satisfied. I’d love to get back into the swing of my reviewing. I’m working on it. Have a great week!

  • ChristinaBookAddict

I am loving this warm weather as well. I saw we might even hit 60s next weekend, which never happens here in PA. I hope you love Brooklyn. I loved aspects of the movie a bit more than the book, which never happens! I see you read Winter— can’t wait to get caught up with this series. Loved Cinder! I hope you have a good week!

    • Oh yes. I totally bought the book because of your review! Lol.

  • Joy! I miss you, it’s been a rather hectic November eep. It’s really warm down in Australia as well haha, but that’s to be expected since it’s Summer. I really want some snow, and to have a cliched white Christmas 🙂

Yay Their Fractured Light! I can’t stop staring at the beautiful cover. I’m currently reading it at the moment, and enjoying it a lot. Hope you do too lovely! x

    • Aw, Joy. I miss you too, But hey, you’re starting to get back into it as well. So that’s fantastic! I’m still weirded out by you Summer Christmas. Lol.

  • We are back to spring again too, nooo, need snow
