The Impostor Queen by Sarah Fine | The Widow by Fiona Barton

Hello!

I guess this will be my November recap as well <insert I can’t-believe-it’s-December-already>. Well, I for one, am looking forward to ending 2015 with a bang. I’m finally settled with a job where I can see myself doing for years to come. Hopefully, this is the last time you’ll ever hear about it. Lol. Thanks for listening to my whine and cheese.

This week, I’m thankful to have received these two books from the two publishers that are nice enough to know I exist. Simon and Schuster Canada and Penguin Random House Canada. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m looking forward to reading both these books. I have been doing well with these review copies. I’m halfway through Dangerous Lies and then I can tackle the last three in my pile (which includes these two). Go, me!

READ THIS WEEK

  • The Masked Truth by Kelley Armstrong was a 5-star read.
  • Hello? by Liza M. Weimer was as wonderful as everyone claims it to be (4 stars).
  • The Dirt on the Ninth Grave by Darynda Jones was ho-hum fantastic (5 stars. Review tomorrow)

It has been a great week overall.

You have no idea how happy I was to get approved for these books! I didn’t think they would, but thanks so much to Net Galley, St. Martin’s Press and Spencer Hill. I read them and loved them!

NOVEMBER READS

  • Walk on Earth, A Stranger by Rae Carson
  • The Gap of Time by Jeannette Winterson
  • The Liar by Nora Roberts
  • Such a Dance by Kate McMurray
  • Midnight Sun by JΓΈ Nesbo
  • The Dirt on the Ninth Grave by Darynda Jones
  • Hello? by Liza Weimer
  • The Masked Truth by Kelley Armstrong

As you can tell, it has been a slow reading month. With all the things I’ve gone through for the past couple of months, I was a little preoccupied. But I’m back and looking forward to starting strong in December and finishing the year on a good note.

I hope your November has been a great month! Happy reading, everyone!

  • S&S all over the world are fantastic! They send me a lot of goodies!
Good luck with the new job!

  • Yay πŸ˜€ I’m so happy for you about the job. <3 Hugs. I hope it will continue to be great πŸ™‚ And yaaay for getting such gorgeous books. <3 I'm so curious about The Impostor Queen. Haven't decided yet if I shall get it from Netgalley or not, lol. Maybe πŸ˜€ Happy reading sweetest Joy. <3 Hope you love all the books πŸ™‚

  • Jazmen

Love the look of these, can’t wait to see these books! Congrats on your new job, hope you have a good run there!

  • I already read and loved The Impostor Queen by Sarah Fine, hope you enjoy it

  • Bec

You say slow reading month and still have read five times as much as me hahaha. I really want to get my hands on The Masked Truth! Kelley Armstrong is one of my favourite authors so I NEED it.

Congrats on finding a job that sounds so nice! Hopefully you continue to enjoy it πŸ˜€

  • I want to read The Masked Truth by Kelley Armstrong! So glad to hear you loved Ninth Grave. I’m a little worried about that one. It seems to be a reset on the series. Glad to hear about your job. πŸ™‚

  • Congrats on the new job! Sounds like you had some good reads this week. I need to get caught up on the Charley books.

  • shootingstarsmag

Congrats on the new job! I hope it’s fantastic for a long time. πŸ™‚ I can’t believe tomorrow is December either, but it should be a good month. Bit busy, but good overall. haha

  • A new job — congratulations!!! That’s exciting news. On the book front, I had the Impostor Queen but darn those non-kindle Adobe reader books that expire. I’m going to go see if I can download it again.

  • I’m so happy that you’ve finally found something you can see yourself doing for the long term Joy, I couldn’t think of a more deserving person. I guess it’s true that all good things come to those that wait. My mother WAS right, go figure. I haven’t heard of The Impostor Queen, but have read one previous Sarah Fine book and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing what you think of it. AND I find it hard to believe publishers have no idea who you are, you’re the girl with enough books to open her own bookstore, loves murder and bodice rippers. No one is going to forget that in a hurry <3

  • Nick(Nick & Nereyda’s Infinite

I’m so excited to read The Impostor Queen! And I’m so glad to see you loved Hello?! It was truly a special book.
    Happy reading!

  • kindlemom1

Great books Joy, I think you are going to love them all!

  • Jenny @ Supernatural Snark

Your slow reading month still yielded better results than my normal reading month Joy! I think I’ve read a whopping 5 books this month. *sigh* I’m super jealous that you got your hands on The Impostor Queen, I can’t wait to read that one! I love Sarah Fine something fierce, so I’m really looking forward to your thoughts:)

  • Nicole Hewitt

So happy to hear about the new job. I hope this one turns out to be perfect!

  • Imposter Queen sounds good, hope you enjoy

  • I managed to get in 19 reads this month, which is high since I usually am at around 8-10. I think I’m gonna start the Charley Davidson series soon. Yes, November flew by really fast. I love this time of year though.

  • I’m so glad to hear about the job, Joy, and that you knew in your gut not to settle with the others. I still need to read the 8th Charley Davidson book, but I can’t wait to read the 9th.

  • Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

I really can’t believe November is over! Where did it go? What did I do? I am so very confused. Like you, I really enjoyed Ninth Grave. Darynda really knows how to keep a series fresh. And I’ll be starting The Impostor Queen these days too. I can’t wait. πŸ™‚
    Happy reading, Joy!

  • I know! Where on earth did November go? But the good thing is that you didn’t buy any books this week ^^ Which is brilliant πŸ™‚ Unlike me, who went to a secondhand book sale and got like 14 >.> At least I didn’t spend too much money seeing as everything was so cheap!

The Impostor Queen is a book we have in common because the premise sounded so intriguing. And then I have heard AHMAZING things about Hello? so I hope you love it.

Congrats on getting that job you will hopefully be enjoying for a long time to come <3

  • Yay 9th!

  • So glad about your job situation! I will be interested to read your reviews on the books you received πŸ™‚

  • Melliane

yay for Darynda jones! I don’t know about the 2 books you had but you have me curious too. happy reading!
