Crazy, right? Ah well. What did you expect? We went away for a few days, so of course a stop at a bookstore was bound to happen. So this is what I got.

Yeah. Our annual trip to San Diego was different this time around, as we brought our kids to their first live game. Unfortunately, we all saw them  LOSE in the most heartbreaking fashion. I kid you not, I cried all the way from the stadium back to our hotel. It was the most painful loss I’ve ever witnessed. And I can’t even be mad at the Steelers, because, dammit. Our defence forgot to show up! Gawd.

Anyway, enough about that. I always make it a point to stop by a B & N any time we’re away. This time, we went twice. I bought a whole slew of books which negated all the self-control I’ve exuded prior to this trip. I convinced the family to visit the newly-opened San Diego Central Library as well, which was a great experience as I don’t think we’ve all been to any library all at once.

There was a used bookstore at Horton’s Plaza that I religiously check out.  It just so happens that it had several Sandra Brown books! I picked up three. I read one already and well on my way to finishing the second one.

Sorry about the lack of posts and the tiny hiatus, ladies and gents. It was difficult to draft any posts while I was away because by the time we were back in our room, I was completely bushed. California was having a hot and humid Fall when we were there, so I barely have enough energy to think. The heat kind of sapped all our energy, to be honest.  I’ve been doing my rounds, so please bear with me.

I start my new job today. And I’ve been sick to my stomach thinking about it all weekend. You’d think I’m going for a job interview again, but no. It’s my first day. I’ve been so nervous all week that I’ve been dreaming about it. I’m so terrified. Terrified I’m going to fail. Terrified I’m not going to be able to do the job. Terrified they’ll think I’m such a hack. All my excitement over starting anew is gone. It’s now replaced with dread.

Good luck, sweetheart! You’ll totally nail it xxx

  • Adriana C

Great haul Joy! I´m looking forward to your review of Six of Crows.
And good luck in your new job.

  • Wow you wouldn’t be Joy of you didn’t have epic book hauls! It’s normal to be nervous about your new job, positivity will go a long way though, I promise! Best of luck!

  • By now you must have started your new job. I hope it all turned out great for you. Sometimes it can be overwhelming until you totally understand what you are doing but I am sure you will do fine! Sorry your team lost-that really sucks for your children’s first game. I hope you enjoy all those books!

  • Aw, I’m sure you’re way more prepared for your job than you think! But it’s natural to be nervous, no matter what. So many pretties–I’ve got to borrow a copy of Twilight so I can check out Life and Death, but I can’t give those books any more of my shelf space. XD

  • Beautiful photo, as always!

  • i hope you’re adjusting real quickly to your new job 🙂 I’m really need to buy many of those books (especially Six of Crows, not that I’m a huge Grisha trilogy fan)…

  • How did you read and gush over Shadow and Bone and not have Ruin and Rising read?! Unless you didn’t update your Goodreads — which I remember you telling me you had a backlog of thousands to update. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy Six of Crows because Grishaverse.

    • I probably didn’t update it. I forget sometimes. Lol.

  • Jazmen

Being a newbie is always awkward. I need so many of these books!

  • Hope your first day on the job went well and stress free. You have the most beautiful bookshelves I have ever seen! Can’t wait to read all your thoughts on the new books 🙂

  • Melliane

that’s nice, so many books for you! happy reading!

  • Gosh, that’s not ‘oh honey I’m just going to pop into this bookstore and pick up a few books’, that’s more like ‘hey, I need to go and purchase more books that I can carry’. You’re hoarding it all over the place this week.

I bought the reimagined Twilight too and holy shit, it was horrid. And I actually liked the original and found this one really poorly written and the the new Bella, Beau, he’s a moody shit. Ohhh, I can’t WAIT to see what you think of it Joy.

I hope all goes well at the new job hun, you’re fabulous and no doubt you’ll knock them all for dead <3

  • I hope you get used to your new job Joy! And all I see is that you got Life and Death, so I am looking forward to your thoughts on that!

  • I hope your job went well! Fantastic book haul! I need to get my hands on the Twilight book. It sounds so weird. :p

  • Darn, I’m sorry about the game!! Now, about your job – I’m crossing my fingers you end up loving it, and I’m sure you will be awesome. I can only imagine the stress of starting a new one, but this sounds like a great challenge.

Your books, SO many awesome ones. I have high hopes you enjoy BLACK WIDOW and THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS as much as I did. And, HOUSE – yep, I want that one so I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it. SIX OF CROWS is on my tbr shelf – I’m haven’t read the previous series, so now I’m trying to decide if it matters in the long run.

Good luck on the new job, Joy!! 🙂

  • shootingstarsmag

Wow, you read a lot. I’m glad you had a nice trip, even though your team lost! Not fun! Good luck at your new job – I hope it went well. I hate starting new things, so it’s understandable. I’m sure it’ll be just fine though!

  • That’s a lot of books! Also I didn’t realize you’re such a fangirl! I hope the next time you watch the game thy win

  • Nicole Hewitt

I am SO not a sports person, so your story about crying on the way home from a game just makes me scratch my head, I have to admit. I just don’t get it! But I’m sorry anyway!! I hope that everything’s going smoothly with your new job. I’m sure you’re going to do fantastic, and all those nerves will float away!

Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction

  • I hope you enjoy Tonight the Streets are Ours and Six of Crows Joy, as I’ve heard nothing but glowing reviews for them. And you’re going to be amazing at your new job – don’t fret it. Let me know how it goes, okay? <3

  • aw wow quiet the week, nice new addition for books, starting a new job is always stressful and scary, but wishing you the best

  • Aw 🙁 I’m sorry the game was lost, lol. That sucks. But yay for family trip 😀 And YAAAAAY for all of those books 😀 SIX OF CROWS. You must read it. Soooon. So good. <3 The rest of the books looks aaamazing too 🙂 Hope you love them all sweet girl. <3 And aw, you are going to do so great at your new job 🙂 Hugs. <3

  • I am sure you will be wonderful at your new job and try not to think/worry about it too much! But despite being crushed in the game it sounds like it was the perfect getaway weather and a lot of fun from the sound of things as well :3 So many good books I don’t even know where to start DD: I am a Twilight lover so of course I want to read the 10th year gender swap edition. Six of Crows, The Weight of Feathers and so many more promising sounding books there! DD:

  • My Friends of the Library used book store adjacent to our public library has so many Sandra Brown books! I see one of the books they have is one you picked up so I’m going to *patiently* await your review to see if I go back and snatch it. hehe Crossing my fingers the new job goes AMAZING! 🙂

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

Six of Crows is AMAZING so you should definitely read it ASAP! 😉 Also, best of luck for the new job–you’ll do great! 😀

I see a couple of my favorite books of the year in your list! So excited to hear your thoughts.

  • Jenny @ Supernatural Snark

HAVE AN AMAZING FIRST DAY JOY!!!!! You’re not going to fail, you’re going to wow them with your awesomeness so don’t stress (though that’s of course easier said than done and I would be the exact same way so who am I to give you advice ;-). And since you picked such winners to buy this week, I feel like that doesn’t even really count. It only counts as buying books if there terrible 😉 I loved Six of Crows and First & Then so much!!!

  • kindlemom1

Good luck with the new job! I hope it goes well and you fit right in!!

  • So many books, want want want

  • Oh, c’mon, Joy, it wasn’t even that hot down there. 😛 Ugh, our teams are doing about the same. It’s very sad. And yes, I see you were a busy book buyer. Good luck with the new job!
