Hoarders, Books Edition links up to Talk Supe’s Bought, Borrowed and Bagged.

Hello!

Well, I managed to abstain this week by not buying more than what I’d planned to get at the bookstore. Five of these books were from the thrift shop. Five books for $20 is a steal, I say! I figure, I’ll ease myself out of buying new. That is, until I’m able to stop buying altogether. What can I say? I’m a work in progress.  *grins* My books this week are a varied lot, if I may so myself. And some of these I’m really surprised to find. Anyway, here they are:

I don’t really know anything about Anne Bishop’s Sebastian, but since I’m familiar with her other books, I wanted to check it out. One of the blurb mentioned how romantic and erotic it was, and honestly, I’m all, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! Hollow City is fairly new…isn’t it? I haven’t read Miss Peregrine’s but I do own a copy of it for future devouring. Deep Kiss of Winter looks like a two-books-in-one type of deal from  Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole. Christmas stories? I don’t know.  A little close to the season, so yay.  I’ve always wanted to read The Secrets of Attraction by Robin Constantine, and to be honest, I think I may already own the book (I just don’t know where it is).  I’m surprised to see it at the store for a bargain price. I’m a huge collector of Penguin vintage – especially this cloth-bound edition. There was no way I was going to pass up on Little Women

Last, but certainly not the least: Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I was literally vibrating from excitement at the bookstore. I read it as soon as I got to the car and read through until 3 in the morning. You guys. This book is freaking amazing! It has that Harry Potter vibe. I think Carry On will inspire me to finally check out those books.

Just so you know, I might not be around this weekend. My family and I are on our way to San Diego for our annual Chargers pilgrimage. This year might be the last time as there are rumours circulating of a possible move to Los Angeles. It sucks. But we decided to bring the kids with us so they can see them for the first time (and possibly the last time *sobs*).

  • I am SO GLAD that you thought Carry On was amazing! I am looking forward to reading that book sometime in the future. And please let me know how Hollow City is! I have read the first book in the series, but I don’t know if I should continue. It’s been a while.

    Awesome haul Joy!

  • Natalie

I LOVE second-hand bookstores/thrift shops. I seriously couldn’t keep up with my book buying habits if I only bought new. All I did today was lay in bed and read Carry On. So entertaining!

  • Nicole Hewitt

Can’t wait to see what you think of Carry On!!

  • Ooooh I read Deep Kiss of Winter a looong time ago. I think I was still in middle school and hiding adult romances from my mom. Hehe I liked it a lot but it was a long time ago, so… I am currently listening to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Well, I’ve listened to a few minutes. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it in depth yet, but so far so good!

  • I swear all your hauls always make me think of all the popular authors I STILL have yet to read anything from-like Cole and Bishop. Good to know about Carry On, I’m excited! Good luck with your new job 😀

  • Jazmen

Yay for new jobs! I just started my job about a week ago so I’m still a newbie too. Good luck with everything and don’t forget to make time for reading like me!

  • Good luck on the new job Joy! You’ll be fine, don’t worry!
$20 is a steal for 5 books! You go girl!

  • Congratulations on your new job chica! I started Hollow City, I think in 2013 but I put it down because I just wasn’t into it at the time. I really want to pick it back up, especially now since I have a physical copy, andddd since the third book just released, but I think I’m not really in the mood for it just yet. Ahhhh Carry On better be good or Rainbow and I will have some serious problems. I’m not playing with her girl lol. Have fun in San Diego!

  • shootingstarsmag

You haven’t read Harry Potter yet? Oh, you should! I have Carry On too. I can’t wait to dive in! I’m glad you liked it. Good luck at your new job. 🙂

  • Oh, now nice edition of Little Women! That’s one of my favourite books of ever, and finding it in a thrift store in such a gorgeous edition? Ah, since you collect that style of book, I hope you’ll do a post showcasing your collection one day! I always ohh over them and’d love to see what other ones you have.
Ahha, I saw you with Carry On in instagram! That first post was fairly awesome. I was reading it at the same time as you, actually, but… didn’t have a super experience. ):

  • Good luck with the new job Joy, you’ll kill it! Let us know how you go <3

Miss Peregrine’s, I tried to read that last week and put it down after a few chapters. It was just so blandly dull. Ohhhh, those Penguin clothbounds! I have around 12 already with still more to collect and they're just so pretty.

  • YAAAAAY 😀 So glad that you loved Carry On. <3 Hugs. I still haven't gotten my copies.. since I was dumb enough to order my hardcover from Amazon, lol. They take about a month to deliver to me : Sad face. Anyway. Yay for getting so many pretty books 😀 I hope you will love them all sweet girl. <3 And YAY for starting new job next week 😀 Best of luck Joy. <3

  • i really need to read some of Bishop’s work, it looks fascinating. Yay for buying used books, I should try that myself.

  • Sebastian looks interesting. Hope you enjoy your books and have a great upcoming week.

  • How the heck do you get to find these amazing books from thrift shops? I go to thrift shops here but the titles they have are either ancient or something so obscure I haven’t heard of them EVER before. Haha! I hope you and your kids have fun in your Chargers pilgrimage! We’ll be here when you get back 🙂

  • Great haul! Good luck with your job!

  • Hihi, yay new books

  • Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings

I reallyyyyy enjoyed Carry On! I think it has its flaws, admittedly, but it’s also SO GOOD. Aah, so excited to see your review of it!

  • I love going to the used book store-I say the because I only go to one and it’s back home in Kentucky and I live in Maryland-so I only get there twice a year. Wish I could find one here! You got quite the book haul! Any book that you start in the car and read until the middle of the night must be great! Hope you enjoy your weekend away 🙂

  • Adriana C

I love Little Women!! beautiful edition. Enjoy your books.
best wishes with your new job.

  • kindlemom1

Congrats on all the reads and I agree, you got them for a steal!
Good luck with the new job, I really hope you love it and are so happy there!

  • Good luck at your new job! I hope your first day is amazing!

Oh Carry On sounds so good, I’m waiting (impatiently) for it to arrive in my letterbox. If you finally get to HP I hope you love it! The books get better as you go along, I think (the writing also matures along with the characters, which I’ve always thought was fab – I’ve just started a re-read with the audiobooks this time, so good!)

  • Rachel

Yay for checking out HP!!! I can’t WAIT to hear your thoughts!!! R xx

  • Hello! Sorry I’ve been so absent. I’m baaaack tho. I love the Penguin Hardcover Clothbound editions. Love love. I may have to grab that copy of Little Women. I already have a family heirloom edition and it’s holding up pretty well, but adding another to the mix can’t hurt!

  • ChristinaBookAddict

I love that edition of Little Women. Also, curious about Rainbow Rowell’s novel…can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Good luck with your new job!

  • Melliane

I didn’t know that Rowwel had a new books, I’m curious to see how it is. happy reading!

  • Ooh I really want to read Carry On now! I think it’s so clever that Rainbow Rowell wrote it! Although I didn’t really enjoy Fangirl, I definitely want to give Carry On a go! 🙂 Also, that cloth-bound edition of Little Women is gorgeous. 🙂

  • Buying second hand is a good idea. I usually get the majority of my books on deals and all that myself so I am saving a lot of money. Little Women is a classic I read as a child so although I don’t remember too much about it I know I did love it back then! I haven’t tried a Rainbow Rowell book before but I am getting there… Enjoy the weekend off 😀
