Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 162

Fair Game by Patricia Briggs | There Will Come A Time by Carrie Acros | Girl Waits with a Gun by Amy Stewart | After You by Jojo Moyes

Just couldn’t resist. I knew I was bound to pick up After You budget or no budget, and anytime I make a trip to the bookstore with every intention of picking up ONLY ONE book spells trouble for my pockets. Fair Game and There Will Come a Time were on sale. I picked them up for $5 each. That’s no excuse, but I still consider that a progress. Girl Waits With a Gun was an indulgence that I couldn’t really afford. I’m still feeling the buyer’s remorse on that one. Oh well. I can’t do much about that now.

This week, while I was going through my iBooks, I found The Simon Family Series by Juliana Stone. I downloaded Tucker a long time ago, but have forgotten about it and eventually, it got lost in the shuffle. So I read it in one sitting and have enjoyed it so much I downloaded what was available on line.

So really, I haven’t made that much progress with curbing my book spending. As punitive as my spending has been, it still hasn’t stopped altogether – which was my objective when I started realizing I can’t go on with the kind of book buying binges I’ve been doing for years. Gah. Heaven help me.

Have a fantastic week, everyone!
  • The one click button is evil, isn’t it? If I didn’t get all my birthday and Christmas presents in Amazon cards, I could never afford the amount of books I buy, so I can relate. I stay away from book stores unless it’s a used book store. I also buy freebies. It’s hard when you are addicted to books!

  • Adriana C

Nice haul Joy! IΒ΄m going to check out Tucker.
    Enjoy your books.

  • Haha! I love it when you read a book, then have to download more because you love it so much! Enjoy your new reads Joy, and have a great week!

    • Right? I hate and love it. And Amazon makes it so freaking easy nowadays. Curse you, Amazon!

  • Pfffft, a book sale is a book sale, no matter how much my woefully empty wallet mourns every time I stumble upon them πŸ˜€ After You sounds so good, but alas I still haven’t read the first book!

  • Love the beautiful photo! It sounds like you are trying and that alone is progress in your book buying reduction. I’m sure right now with the new job it’s hard not to want to find extra comfort, which for me is books, lol – right? So, I hope you enjoy them anyways πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Kim! I’m pretty pumped. I’m getting a kick out of finding cheap books, so yes. I’m owning this.

  • Melliane

yay for Briggs! I tried a few Moyes books but I really need to read more of them.

    • I really should continue with Briggs’ other series. And I found out that Fair Game is actually book #3. Bah.

  • Girl Waits With a Gun looks gorgeous! Seriously, that book looks all kinds of awesome. I’ve never heard of it… but eh. I hope you’ll review it in the future! I WANTS TO KNOWS ALL ABOUTS IT.

    • I’m excited to read it. Hopefully, I can squeeze it in this month. πŸ™‚

  • Progress is better than nothing! And I feel like not spending money on books is the hardest! I’m sure over time you’ll get better. πŸ™‚ Have a wonderful week, Joy!

    • Thanks, Rachel. Truthfully, I find that I’ve been being very particular about the books I pick up. Unless of course, I’m at a thrift store. In which case, I just grab whatever I feel like. Lol.

  • I need to pick up Me Before You. Everyone’s talking about it, and this one, too! I have Patricia Briggs on my TBR, too!

    • Such a wonderful book. Bring a box of tissue!

  • OMG I love Juliana Stone romances!!!

    • Yes! I do too. I don’t know why I stopped reading them, to be honest!

  • Yaaay for such pretty books πŸ˜€ They aren’t books for me, hih, but they do look gorgeous πŸ˜‰ I hope you will love them all Joy. <3 Hope you had an amazing weekend sweet girl πŸ™‚ Happy reading πŸ˜€

  • shootingstarsmag

Ooh lovely photo! I do fairly well with not buying too many books, but I’m always adding things to my wish list and it’s difficult sometimes when I’m at a bookstore and I just want everything!!

    • Ah yes. The Wish List. I think I might’ve to start one of those. In time for Christmas and all. Lol.

  • one sitting huh? o.o i think i might need to look into that series

    • Try it! I think You’ll enjoy them, Lily. πŸ™‚

  • As always Joy, I’m in awe of your amazing pictures taking abilities!β™‘ I’m so jealous because girl! I can’t take a good picture to save my life! Also, don’t feel bad about your book spending. There’s nothing wrong with book buying. πŸ˜‰

    • True. Unless you’re broke. In which case, then you might have to rearrange your priorities. Lol. And thanks, hun! <3

  • The Stone books sounds good, happy reading and have a great week

  • Jenny @ Supernatural Snark

“So really, I haven’t made that much progress with curbing my book spending.”

*snort* You sound like me Joy! At least your recognize that you need to be more budget conscious, which is an important first step:) And you picked up a couple books for only $5. I consider that a win. Can’t wait to see what you think of Fair Game!

    • Right? Still though. It’s $5 that I really can’t afford to spend. Le sigh.

  • kindlemom1

I definitely think $5 a piece is huge progress. πŸ˜‰ Congrats!!

  • Haha, Joy! I love how you can’t control yourself when it comes to books. Signs of a true bookworm! πŸ™‚
I’m excited to hear your thoughts on Me Before You. Those Julianna Stone books look fun too!
    Happy reading!

  • I haven’t been book spending lately because I have too many books taking up my shelves that I haven’t read (although that’s something that I said at the start of the year). A great haul though Joy!

    • Thanks, Jeann. I think it’s progress, but I know I could do better.

  • Jazmen

I really want to read Me Before You but for whatever reason I haven’t gotten there yet. I hope it lives up to my expectations! Have fun reading this week! I’m looking forward to the reviews for the ones you’ve already read. Like the Simon Family series…

    • Me Before You is a life altering book for me. I hope you’ll love it. <3

  • I need to pick up the Jojo Moyes books, I have heard so many fantastic things about them! I’m on a book budget myself and it sucks having to think so many times before buying rather than nabbing whatever I want. I feel your pain!

    • Yes, YOU MUST. Me Before You knocked me off my feet. It was so unexpected. So sublime and heart-achingly good. I hope you’ll read it soon, Aentee!

      • I actually bought it on kindle as soon as o finished commenting here. I hope it read it this month πŸ˜€

  • Oooh never heard of The Simon Family series, but it sounds exciting. Doesn’t hurt that the cover models are pretty good looking πŸ˜‰

Aww, book buying bans/budgets suck. I’ve been trying to impose one on myself by asking the question “do you really think you’ll be reading this book any time soon?” Often it’s a no, and it helps me stop myself by impulsively buying it πŸ˜›

    • hahah! Right? I mean, was there ever any question? They’re fast and easy, which is all I can do nowadays.

  • I look forward to reading your review of The Simon Family series. It’s new to me πŸ™‚

  • I think you are still doing a good job! I know a lot of bloggers love Patricia Brigg’s books but personally I have yet to pick one up myself. Again, the same situation with Jojo Moyes! I should really get to trying those. Glad you found a series you could like and I hope the rest of them are just as good!

    • I still need to find the rest of the books in the series. I believe this is #3. Le sigh.

  • Happy reading πŸ˜€
