Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 158

The Mistake I Made by Paula Daly | Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith | Soulless by Gail Carriger | Blameless by Gail Carrier | An Empty Sekret by Lindsay Smith | Overruled by Emma Chase | Sustained by Emma Chase | Suite Française by Iréne Némirovsky | The Uninvited by Cat Winters | Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets | Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone | Burn by Paula Weston | Bream Gives Me Hiccups by Jesse Eisenberg

First things first: I would like to thank Random House Canada for sending me copies of The Mistake I Made and Bream Gives Me Hiccups. Whenever I get an invitation to review a few of their books, I keep having to fight off the urge to request them all. Thankfully, we’re only allowed to request 3 books at a time. Otherwise, I’ll be hoarding them all. So these two books are the ones that I’m just dying to read.

How have your week been? Mine was uneventful as usual. Work, home. Work, home. Rinse. Repeat. Pretty much. Our truck’s transmission broke this week *sobs*. We had to trade it in because there was no way I was going to pay $2,500 to fix it. It was time for an upgrade anyway, but now I have this car loan riding on our shoulders. Ugh. I hate being in debt. We’ve avoided having to pay any car loans for the last few years since we don’t buy new. But hubby wanted a bigger car for us and newer. Ergo, we’re broke. Let’s see if that’ll stop me from going to the bookstores from here on out.

Speaking of which, another massive haul again this week, for some reason. I definitely did not have a ‘shopping list’ when I went to the bookstore this past week. These are random picks, with three that I found in the clearance bin. Sometimes, I like to make myself feel better for  hoarding by saying, hey, these books were on sale! I sleep better that way. Lol.

Have you read any of these?

  • Not read any of these but I have read a few of these authors in the past, Jennifer Smith and Emma Chase. Hope you enjoy. And so sorry about your vehicles transmission!

  • Sucks that the truck broke! Hate having that kind of debt!
Awesome haul Joy! I hope you enjoy them all!

  • BUUUUUUUURN! Drop everything and read it at once, I must know what you think of it. I MUST! I loved it, such an awesome finale. Urgh, cars are more trouble than what they’re worth aren’t they. Once a transmission goes, you’re up shit creek without a paddle. At least you have that new car warranty now and the safety of it not having been in any prangs. Hope you enjoy all your lovely new reads Joy <3

  • ChristinaBookAddict

Awesome books! I have had Soulless on my shelf for AGES. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it, because it definitely sounds like a book I’d enjoy. Good luck with your car! Happy reading!

  • Adriana C

Great haul Joy! and sorry about the car trouble.
A lot of your new books sound really good but I´m interested on Paula Weston series.
    Enjoy your books,

  • Love your new books, good luck finding that when you put it on your shelf! lol

So I got an impt question for you that needs an answer ASAP. Ernest Cline’s Player One (?) is on sale. Now I’m not sure about it because it’s set in the future. Is it too futuristic? Like too sci-fi?

  • My gosh Joy, the hoarding queen. Makes me feel better about my own hoarding lol. I’ve wanted to read Soulless for a long time, so I hope you enjoy it! The only one I’ve read here is Harry Potter. Hope you and the hubby enjoy the car though!

  • Seriously Joy, you do buy a heck of a lot of books! Have your hoarder tendencies gotten any better recently?!
Gail Carriger is amazing. I’m sure you’re gonna love Soulless, joy, because it’s utterly delightful and ahh. I’ve read three books in her MG series, set in the same world, and then only Soulless on audio recently, but they’re all just SO fantastic. I look forward to seeing what you think! x

  • Uh, being debt free has been a foreign concept to me since the age of 18, which was 9 years ago. Student loans and blah blah blah. It’s kind of paid off though? I had to take out a loan on for a car purchase in January, and because of my credit score, I was able to get a loan with a 1.99% interest rate. I was pretty proud of that.

I’ve heard really great things about the Gail Carriger books, but I haven’t read them yet (really want to though). Harry Potter on the other hand…they’re my favorite!

  • I’m sorry about the car problems, that sucks! They’re SO expensive to maintain. Oh god, when books are on sale I just buy them like it’s my job. I mean it’s a whole WORLD inside those pages and it’s only 2 bucks? OBVIOUSLY it’s a bargain. I’ve read Soulless, and I liked it, but for some reason was never compelled to continue the series. I haven’t seen those Harry Potter editions before; they look nice!

  • Aw, I’m sorry about the car trouble sweetie : That doesn’t sound so good. Sigh. But hope you had a great weekend, even so 🙂 YAAAAY for getting so many amazing books this week Joy 😀 You are going to love The Uninvited. I hope. Read it. Then let me know what you thought about it 😀 And yay for more Harry Potter 😉 Have you read book one yet? <3 Really hope you'll love it 🙂 Happy reading sweet girl. <3

  • Burn and Overruled sounds great. Hope that you enjoy and have a great upcoming week.

  • shootingstarsmag

I do want to read Bream Gives Me Hiccups. I read an excerpt and it sounded good. I hope you enjoy!

  • That’s how I justify buying books, too! 😀 I’ve been wanting to read some from Emma Chase, and The Uninvited!

  • That is a crazy amount. You can get a crappy but good car for that

  • kindlemom1

Congrats on all the books but sorry about the truck and now car payment. We had to do that two years ago and it sucked. I hate car payments as well but, you do what you have to do right?

  • Oh the Sekret book sounds interesting 🙂 I hope you enjoy all your new reads!

  • Melliane

Oh Harry Potter and the nice Carriger series. Happy reading!

  • Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between is SO PRETTY! I really want to get it in hardcover! *_* Also, I love that Harry Potter edition. I was so lucky to be sent the whole series to review with those covers! Mine are paperback but that’s fine because they’re just SO BEAUTIFUL.

  • Ahaha when I buy most of my books they are on sale or a bargain in some way. But yes, definitely the better way to get them because less money. And a happier conscience 😛 *drools over Joy’s wonderful books*. I just really want to read Soulless and Blameless because they sound like they are going to be such wonderful books! I also have heard good things about the author Jennifer E. Smith but I have never tried any of her books myself.

  • I just read Sustained and loved it. Emma Chase always does a good job, though. Ugh, that stinks about the transmission and having to get a new car. Behave with the book shopping. 😉
