On the Night Table [25]: Andrew Smith, et al.

I don’t know where the influx of motivation and inspiration came from, but I’m happy to say I’ve finally caught up to my weekly On the Night Table posts. This week, I’m working on some books for review because I want to do do a bit of ‘pleasure reading’ for the next while.

I’ve never read Winger by Andrew Smith, so I decided to tackle both his books this week. Unfortunately, After the Red Rain slipped through my radar. Despite some not-so-warm reviews as of late, I’m excited to read it anyway. I usually am not a fan of books written by a celebrity or books written in teams of three (two writers is my limit), but something about this book intrigues me. Wish me luck!

As I’ve mentioned, it had been an inspired week over all. I read a few books and wrote reviews for them. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been ahead, so let’s hope this streak continues.

  • I believe I’ve told you before how much I love Andrew Smith’s writing style. It’s quirky, it’s weird, and his characters are a bit strange but I love that! Hopefully you’ll enjoy both Winger and Stand Off. I’m hoping the sequel pleases me as much as the first! I’ve seen Red Rain around quite a bit, but I never bothered to look into it, I’m heading over to goodreads to see what it’s all about πŸ™‚

  • I have never heard of Andrew Smith or his books but I hope you enjoy!

  • Even seeing it around Goodreads, I can’t recall having ever seen a review for Winger actually so really interested to see what you think of it Joy. I’ve gone to purchase it a few times, and the cover has turned me off. And hooray for getting back into the swing of things! It’s an awesome feeling when you finally get ahead isn’t it, then you can crack open some of your own reads <3

    • I have to agree with you, Kelly. That cover doesn’t look appetizing, to be honest. Lol. Still, so much love for this book! I hope I’ll enjoy it.

  • Sigh, you post such gorgeous photos Joy. <3 Lots of love. I haven't read any of these, but they look awesome πŸ˜€ Have fun reading them sweetie. <3

    • Thanks, C. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been a good reading week for me. I’ve been completely obsessed with The Bronze Horseman at the moment.

  • I have only read one Andrew Smith book (Grasshopper Jungle) and found it pretty interesting! So hopefully you end up liking his other books!

    • I hope so, too. Much has been said about his interesting method of writing, so I’m kinda looking forward to that. πŸ™‚

Ohhhh haven’t heard of Winger, but I’ll check it out, love the book spine art!

    Happy Reading

I LOVED Winger and cannot wait to read Stand-Off. I have After the Red Rain, but haven’t read it yet. It does sound intriguing. I hope you love them all!

    • Thanks, Natalie. I’ve been putting reading Winger for the longest time. I’m worried it’s going to be too much. Whelp.

  • Wohoo for a good week!

  • It’s a great feeling getting caught up, isn’t it? I’m in the process of doing the same and it is such a relief to cross off something on the to do list. πŸ˜€ You’ve got so much read! Never heard of Andrew Smith, but I hope you enjoy πŸ˜€

    • Yes, exactly! Trying to strike while the iron is hot. Because I tend to have bursts of inspiration followed by slumps. Boo.

  • These books and authors are new to me but they seem like interesting reads. Hope you like them πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Shane. πŸ™‚ Everyone’s new to me too, aside from Barry Lyga. πŸ™‚

  • Ooh, I have had Winger on my TBR pile for a while. Hope you enjoy! I’ve read Grasshopper Jungle, by the same author, and it was good, if really weird.

    • I hope I will, too. I like weird. πŸ™‚

  • Yay for being ahead! I’ve heard great things about Winger, and have been meaning to pick it up. Looking forward to your thoughts!

    • I know! Me too. The cover is a bit intimidating though…lol.

I ordered Winger a while back and it got lost in the mail. I want to order it again, at some point. I hope you love these!

    • Thanks, Jaz. I hope I will, too. πŸ˜‰ Sorry about your lost copy. Boo.

  • I’m excited to hear what you think about After the Red Rain. And I haven’t read Andrew Smith either … There are too many books, Joy! Too many!
    Have a lovely week! πŸ™‚

I’m curious to read your thoughts on After the Red Rain Joy! I’ve heard such amazing things about Barry Lyga’s other series, so I added this one to my list as soon as I heard about it. Yay for being inspired this week! I need some of that inspiration to hit, I have a number of reviews to write… πŸ™‚

    • I think that’s what made me curious about this one at first. I’m a fan of Barry Lyga’s other series as well. Let’s hope it’ll live up to that hype. πŸ™‚

  • RO
