Photo Vomit [18]: Basement Bookshelves

DSC00207

Last week, in a spur of the moment, I decided to rearrange my basement library. I wanted free up some bookshelves to make room for…well, more books.

It took bribery, a dash of cajoling, and threats of bodily harm to get my family to help.

At first, I didn’t think I have enough books to fill up the shelves (I know right?).

But I didn’t have anything to worry about. It turns out, there aren’t enough shelves. There are NEVER enough shelves.

Join me on my next moment of insanity, will you?

  • As you know, Joy, I adore your basement bookshelves and the whole layout of that area, really. GORGEOUS. It seems like the most wonderful place to sneak away to, to read for hours on end and hideout with a bucket of pancakes. *nods* that’s the life. For sures.

  • Just WOW! I wish I had the space to have a heap of bookshelves… I seem to have them scattered at the moment!

  • Ooh, that’s a familiar feeling! I just rearranged my shelves yesterday, hoping both to purge and just for a change of organization. That’s a lot of work–and I don’t have as many books as you do! It’s so satisfying, though, isn’t it? πŸ™‚

  • I think you’ve created the perfect book cave Joy. Ohhh, I wish I had a basement set up too. I’ve turned one of my spare rooms into a home library, and still find that I’m running out of room, even with a wall of floor to ceiling bookshelves. It looks absolutely gorgeous! Really glamorous especially with Audrey up there.

    Thanks for sharing Joy <3

Wow, I wish I had room for a library. When I moved to another state a few years back, I had to get rid of so many books. It hurt! Now I have one bookshelf and the books are 3 deep on it. Love your basement library!

  • I’ll never get tired of looking at your shelves Joy!

  • I love your basement (and your bookshelves! I want to take them and place them in my room! haha). It looks like a really great place to read. Lovely photos!! I like looking at the before and after πŸ˜€ and yess, there are just NEVER enough shelves!!

What a cute little area. Those first pictures made me itchy, though. lol

  • Joy I should just go ahead and move to Canada when I visit in August, so that I can start my own basement of books! I know what you mean, when I got my new shelves I thought I would have tons of space, but of course it gets full up way too quickly! But thank you for sharing this gorgeous post with us, I had fun drooling over your gorgeous photos! πŸ™‚

  • So totally gorgeous Joy! I am so proud of you for reorganising your basement books, plus that looks super relaxing being able to ‘get away’ from the rest of the world. Your bookshelves are so spacious and totally lovely! You did well.

  • Ahh, the gorgeous πŸ˜€ I love this Joy. <3 Your boookshelves are gorgeous πŸ˜€ YAY for lots and lots of books. <3 And ugh, yess. Never enough shelves.. you must get more, hiih πŸ˜‰ Thank you for sharing about this sweetie. <3 Love the pictures πŸ™‚

  • I LOVE YOUR BASEMENT LIBRARY!!! So awesome! So glad your friends ended up helping too and come on! This is not a chore! Lol. Love the shelves and love your basement. And you’re right…there’s never enough shelves

  • What a great space! I love the Audrey Hepburn poster and I love reading where all the books are. Love it! (But, yes, there are never, ever enough shelves. My bookcases look like they threw up.)

  • Ro

Let me just put this out there. The spot on the edge of your couch suits me just fine, and I’m flying over right now! (lol) Mad props for including one of the most beautiful women in the world in your room. Everything has a smooth, sleek and soothing vibe. I know it was a lot of work, but I suspect not having it order the way you like was driving you bonkers so you had no choice. Glad fam helped to see your magnificent vision! Hugs…Ro

Looking good – I’m sorry you don’t have enough shelves though. That is DEFINITELY my problem. haha

  • Ha, ‘there are not enough shelves’ is every bookworms motto!

I’ve had to stack my books in two-deep on my shelves because space is..non existent!

  • This is amazing Joy! Love the bookshelves and the idea of having your books as a main part of your house. Getting me inspired to fix my shelf!

    Happy Reading

there is no such thing as too many books!!
i love these bookshelves!! my bookcases are jammed tight with books. i think i just need to keep acquiring more bookcases! πŸ™‚

  • Oh, I want a basement library! Basements are virtually unheard of in Southern California, I have no idea why, but looking at these photos makes me feel left out! I love how organized everything looks. And yes, you can never have enough bookshelves! Great post and pics! πŸ™‚

  • Realistically, all you had to say was: “if you don’t help me, I won’t have your back during a zombie apocalypse” — that’ll teach em LOL.

  • Wow! I love those bookshelves and how you have it set up. And Audrey Hepburn! Love that too! It seems like a great place to just relax and unwind. Thanks for sharing it with us!

  • Can I just live with you? I don’t have bookshelves at a ll let alone a basement with a library! I love the Audrey Hepburn artwork. Totally cool. Looks like a lot of work but I’m sure you’re pleased with the outcome!

  • wow that’s a lot of work to do.

  • My hidden bookshelves are at my parents, just not enough room πŸ˜‰
