On the Night Table [18]: This Week’s Reading Pile

Hello.

How was your weekend, everyone? I had a quiet one. We stayed in the city because my kids had their own thing to do, so I had a lovely lunch date with my husband, which of course, included a visit to the bookstore. Sticking to a book buying ban of sorts has always been a struggle when you’re married to an incredible guy like my husband. His natural reaction to us having a day for ourselves is to take me to a bookstore. So of course, being a weakling that I am, I always end up taking a few home. I’ll probably do a post next weekend for books that I got. Just a heads up, the book buying ban is not going so well for me – which is to be expected, isn’t it? Sigh.

The weather was finicky last weekend, so we couldn’t decide on what to do exactly (to stay home or to do stuff around the yard). So we did a bit of both. Mostly, I tried to write some posts for the coming days, and revisit my blogging tasks to see what I can tick off ( working on the third in a list of eight).

This week’s reading pile includes a remnant from two weeks ago (The New Neighbour). I was not able to finish it, so I’m working on doing that this week. I also have a couple of books that Random House sent me last week (The Little Paris Bookshop & China Rich Girlfriend). The Little Paris Bookshop is really good so far. I mentioned this on my Instagram post that if you liked The Storied Life of AJ Fikry, chances are, you’re going to love Monsieur Perdu as well. China Rich Girlfriend was the book that I sacrificed a virgin goat for way back when. I was so excited when I got this in the mail! My offering to the goddess worked! Lol.

Books Read in the Last Two Weeks:

  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
  • Last Hit [Hitman, #1] by Jessica Clare
  • Stranded with a Billionaire [Billionaire Boys Club, #1] by Jessica Clare
  • Beauty and the Billionaire [Billionaire Boys Club, #2] by Jessica Clare
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
  • The Wrong Billionaire’s Bed [Billionaire Boys Club, #3] by Jessica Clare
  • Once Upon a Billionaire [Billionaire Boys Club, #4] by Jessica Clare

As you can see, I’ve decided to check out Jessica Clare’s books. I don’t know where I’ve seen a recommendation for her books, but I thought I’d see what they’re about. I mean, it’s kind of obvious based on the title of the series. I guess, I should admit that I’m a sucker for rich men in books as well. They’re humdrum predictable, but fun. Don’t judge me. Lol. That’s it for me this week. I hope you’ll have a great one!

What’s in your pile this week?

  • Aw, well even if it made you come home with a few more books than you had intended to be getting for the time being, it sounds like you had a really nice outing, and being taken to the bookstore as a treat is one of the best things ever. So sweet!
I’m thinking I’d like to read The Storied Life, so maybe I’ll enjoy The Little Paris Bookshop, too!
    xx

  • I just read The Little Paris Bookshop and I was not as in love with it as I thought I would be. It was an okay book and the setting was beautiful. But I was not a big fan of the characters.

  • Rich men in books are a guilty pleasure for me as well πŸ˜‰ It would be so difficult to stick to a book buying ban for me as well if I had a husband/wife/family member who loved me enough to buy me books… because I’m currently broke, lmao! Anyway, the Little Paris Bookshelf looked so pretty. I gotta look more into that one πŸ˜€

  • I just checked out Fangirl from the library. I am curious to know what you thought of it. I wasn’t a big Eleanor and Park fan…

  • Quiet weekend sounds awesome, though πŸ™‚ It sounds like you had an amazing weekend Joy. <3 YAY for that πŸ˜€ And ack, you read so many books these last two weeks πŸ™‚ I haven't read much at all :p Hope you'll get to read a lot this week too. <3 Happy reading sweetie πŸ™‚

  • Glad your goat sacrifice was not in vain!! πŸ™‚

  • I plan to read The Little Paris Bookshop too, I will have to follow you on IG.

  • My mother didn’t care for The New Neighbor too much. She found it to be a bit boring, but hopefully you’ll enjoy it! Ahhh China Rich Girlfriend sounds sooooooo good. I can’t wait to hear what you think about that one!

    • Aw. That’s too bad. I’m actually enjoying it a bit. πŸ™‚

  • That is cool that your hubby takes you to a bookstore. Mine wouldn’t do that πŸ™

    Naomi @ Naomi’s Reading Palace

    • Lol. Aw. Yeah, I lucked out, I guess. πŸ™‚

  • I spy China Rich Girlfriend! I adored the first book in the series, it was hilarious and accurate as well. Hope you enjoy your books, look forward to your posts soon.

  • I read The Little Paris Bookshop earlier this year and it is just a beautiful read! I hope you enjoy it!

    Have a great week!

Kudos on snagging such an awesome hubby who respects and appreciates your love of books! He’s a definite keeper. I admire your ability to know what you’re going to read at any given time. I wish I could be that organized! (lol) I finished up Making Faces and One More Thing, both romances, and moved on to suspense and spy stories for the moment. Hope your day is as fab as you are. Hugs…

    • Oh trust me. I have a hard time sticking to my planned reads. But I just have to soldier through.

  • I do love that your husband supports you so much though, I think it is fantastic! I hope you like all your reads!

  • Sounds like you got yourself an amazing husband. Someone who willingly takes you to the bookstore, yes please! I never heard of any of these books but they sound intriguing. Happy reading. Cant wait to see your reviews!

  • Good lord, how do you read 3 books at the same time? And book buying bans never work… at all. No matter how huge our TBR pile is, it never works. I also tried reading the first book of the Billionaire Boys Club series, but I wasn’t feeling it so I didn’t push through. Might try to pick it up again. ;D Can’t wait to hear your thoughts about the series!

    • Yep. Never. Ever. I don’t know why I keep trying. Sigh.

  • Ah, lunch date sounds wonderful

  • I have The Storied Life of AJ Fikry in my tbr shelf and I can’t seem to squeeze it in my schedule.. The Little Paris Bookshop immediately grabbed my attention because there’s a bookshop mentioned, haha. I’ll definitely check that out (then try to squeeze AJ Fikry on my tbr next month).

    • AJ Fikry is great! Worth the read, for sure. πŸ™‚

  • Sounds like you had a lovely weekend with an understanding husband! I gave up on my book buying ban a few months ina lready lol. Can’t wait to hear what you think of China Rich Girlfriend, I’ve heard great things abuot his writing.

  • Christy

Oh, Joy, it seems like you’ve been mentioning a book ban for years now. πŸ˜› Yay for having a husband who breaks the ban for you. lol

    • Right? I think I went on those bans as long as I’ve been blogging. Lol.

  • Wow you went for all of Clare’s πŸ˜€ Awesome. And yes, maybe they are about…billionaires? Just a lucky guess

    • Ding! ding! ding! Give that lady a prize!

  • I don’t even try to impose a book buying ban on myself because I know it can never work. The darn things are just too tempting. Then again, some women compulsively buy shoes… I’d choose books any day of the week. I’m curious what you thought of Fangirl. RR isn’t an author who works for me. I really want to know how you felt about it.

    • I really loved Fangirl! I think you’ve mentioned that before that RR isn’t an author for you.*sad panda face* I adore her to bits!

  • Some interesting books there, mainly as I didn’t know about them. Happy reading!
