Waiting on Wednesday [8]: Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell | St. Martin’s Griffin | Publication Date: October 6th, 2015

Rainbow Rowell continues to break boundaries with Carry On, an epic fantasy following the triumphs and heartaches of Simon and Baz from her beloved bestseller Fangirl.

Simon Snow just wants to relax and savor his last year at the Watford School of Magicks, but no one will let him. His girlfriend broke up with him, his best friend is a pest, and his mentor keeps trying to hide him away in the mountains where maybe he’ll be safe. Simon can’t even enjoy the fact that his roommate and longtime nemesis is missing, because he can’t stop worrying about the evil git. Plus there are ghosts. And vampires. And actual evil things trying to shut Simon down. When you’re the most powerful magician the world has ever known, you never get to relax and savor anything.

Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story — but far, far more monsters.

I just finished reading Fangirl. Do you know what it’s like to be afflicted with book hangover? What am I saying? Of course you do. But if it’s been forever since you’ve had one, let me describe it to you:
It’s like that morning after the most incredible night of your life and you’re still a little drunk. The love of your life cooks you breakfast: bacon, huevos rancheros, pancakes…the works. But just the thought of eating makes you want to projectile-vomit on his face while you curse the day he was born. You just can’t think about eating. ANYTHING.
That’s how I feel right now. I don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t know if I’ll ever be the same.  How do I go on? And then I realized, this. THIS book is the cure.
But how do I get a copy? Who do I have to f*ck/kill/marry? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

  • lol, perfect pick Joy. <3 Love your words about it 😀 And oh my gosh, yes. Anything for this book. GIVE IT TO ME. I cannot wait to read it either 😀 Fingers crossed we will both love it. <3

  • I love Rainbow Rowell so, so, so much. I think this book will be awesome.

  • Yay, I actually really liked the Simon and Baz scenes and I’m glad that we’re finally getting their story! Glad to hear you loved Fangirl as well Joy <3

  • I loved Elnore and Park, but sadly Fangirl was a big miss for me. I’m not really into fanfiction and found it boring in those spots and skimmed most of it. Might be a bit early to be exchanging sexual favours for an ARC just yet 😀 Maybe try EW or NG and see if the US publisher might have it on there. Good luck and hopefully you’ll be rewarded with a copy soon hun <3

  • I WILL have this book in my hands when it’s released! I loved the hell out of Fangirl, and the Simon Snow fanfiction was actually my favorite parts of the story! I’m so excited to see how she plays it out, knowing Rainbow it’ll be fantastic of course, I just CAN NOT wait for this!

  • I still have to read Fangirl… glad there will be a sequel!

  • I haven’t liked any of the books written by Rainbow Rowell 🙁 This one sounds interesting though, hope you enjoy it!

  • Ksenia

I’m familiar with this condition, hopefully you’ll recover soon. I haven’t read Fangirl yet. I know, I know…

  • I still haven’t read Fangirl *hides*, but I plan too. This sounds really good, except the melodrama part.

  • *sigh* She’s another Katie McGarry for me. In other words, her books and I just don’t go together. But I love that one of hers gave you book hangover! I usually get those either from fantasy, or UF series. And I love it when that happens to me! I hope you get a chance to read this soon.

  • How have I not read Rowell yet! I must be the last person on earth. I have Landline…need to make time for it!

i didn’t know how badly i needed this until i read this post!!! i can’t wait!!!!

  • There’s an excerpt from this in the “12 Books You Can’t Miss at BookCon 2015” ebook on iTunes! I saw it about a month ago, so it might still be available.

  • I still haven´t read Fangirl, or any of Rainbow Rowell books. Maybe this year I´ll read some of her books.

  • I haven’t read Fangirl. I know it’s crazy. I shall hang my head in shame. Lol. Hope you get this!

  • I just got a copy of Fangirl, and it’s the collector’s edition too and I’m excited to get on to it, omg. 😀 Great pick this week!

  • I COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK JOY! Yes. Just yes. That’s all I have to say 😉

  • Ah yes, this is a great one and one I want to read as well!

  • I haven’t read anything by Rainbow Rowell (although I have Eleanor & Park right there on my TBR shelf). . I’m not sure about this one since it sounds like fantasy but I’ll probably get around this if I enjoy her other books. .

  • That’s fantasy?

  • I LOVED Fangirl as well, but I’ll have to admit that I actually skipped all of the Simon Snow bits… D: I hope this cures your hangover, though. 😉

  • I didn’t know she had a new book to be released
