I know, I know. Every time I make a proclamation that I’m never ever buying books again, I turn around and do a haul post like this. Gah. I discovered Book Outlet last week. The rest, as they say, is history. I got like, 7 books for $40! How could that be a sin?! Seriously. Sigh. Anyway, I also got two books for review from HBG Canada (The Witch Hunter & After the Red Rain). So thanks, HBG! I haven’t requested any books from them lately, but I when I got an email from them a week or so ago, I jumped at the chance to review a couple. That’s my story.

The Best News Evah.

If you don’t know it by now, Melina Marchetta is my literary goddess. I would seriously read any book she puts out. So when she announced that she’s got an Adult Fiction coming out, there was flailing, screeching, spazzing, searching-for-appropriate-GIF involved. Ask my husband. He’ll vouch for me. Shaming the Devil is on its editing stages with an expected release date of Fall next year. This, my friends, is going to be a long year.

Other than that, I’m hitting a wall with contemporary YAs at the moment. It’s not that I’m losing interest in them, it’s just that it’s getting harder and harder to care about teen drama that a cynical adult like me would consider, trite. However, as soon as I picked up Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby, the world was all right again. Wish me luck. Because I sure am tired of forcing myself to finish a book. I  might have a first DNF of the year. Sigh.

The Charley Davidson giveaway will start on Monday, y’all. I hope you’ll come and enter to try and win a fantastic prize package which includes the entire series! I can’t express my love for this series enough. No joke.

How was your week?

  • Oh dear, your book ban not going so well, huh, Joy? Though 7 books for $40 *is* pretty great. I don’t think you can be blamed too badly for that.
I’ve never read any Marchetta, though my sister is insistant that I try one of her older ones, which I really should get to. I don’t believe I’ve ever read a negative review of her work! x

    • Gasps! You’re an Aussie. It should be a requirement! Yes. Yes. READ MARCHETTA. Stat.

  • And the magic of Bookoutlet reveals itself :3 I actually think it is such a cool site, but now we need something like that for running at an international state xD I definitely approve of the purchase of At the Waters Edge because that is one I would very much like to read myself as well!

  • Yay for bunch of gorgeous looking books Joy 😉 Pfff, never stop buying, lol. <3 I haven't read any of them, but getting The Witch Hunter shortly 😀 But worried about not liking it, ugh. And yesss. YAY for new Melina book 😀 I'm so excited too. <3 Happy reading sweet girl 🙂 Hope you love all the books. <3

  • So, wait – I’m confused. Are you saying that you liked Things We Know by Heart and it brought you out of your slump or that you almost DNF’d it? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • I LOVE Things We Know by Heart. I was reading a book that will most likely be a DNF. I’m still waffling about it. But I think, it’s going that route at this point. Sigh.

  • Ohh I wish we had a Book Outlet here, absolutely mind blowing prices, and who could honestly pass up books out that cheap! Postage is just so expensive to Australia though, and works out that you’re really not saving at all through them sadly.

I KNOW! MARCHETTA! It feels like years and years since she brought out something new, but I’m so excited even if it’s adult fiction. I hope you’re enjoying the new Jessi Kirby, I really loved Golden and looking forward to seeing what you think of it. Thanks for sharing all your lovely new reads Joy <3

    • That’s what I hear. That is unfortunate. I’m just hoping this does not develop into a nasty habit. God help us all.

Yes, Marchetta! I’d kill for an advanced copy. Really. Sigh.

  • Melina has a book coming out?!!! *flails, does happy dance* I sort of gave up she’d ever write for us again, thanks for the amazing news!!

I’m excited to see what you think of the Linda Howard books. I have Prey bookmarked at the library for me. 🙂

    • Yesss!!! I’m so excited about it, too. Though it’s completely out of my usual alley, I’m sure it’ll be just as divine!

  • It happens… sometimes you have to buy books. Don’t feel bad, we all do it!

    • Hahahah! Well, hopefully I can turn my every week to sometimes.

Seveneves! Ugh, I’m with you on the YA contemporary front. I’m kind of like that with the adult too right now with the exception of certain authors. But the YA … shoot me now.

    • Thank you! The Things We Know by Heart is an exception though, eh? I really am loving it. I started it this morning and I thing I’m going to be able to finish it today. I just need to be more selective nowadays, I suppose.

  • Great haul. Reality Boy sounds intriguing. Have a great week!

  • Hello, fellow J.D. Robber!!! 🙂 awesome haul! I am at the opposite end of the spectre. I’ve read so much a fantasy in the last 6 months, I am ready for contemporary romance this summer. Been reading a lot of it recently.

    • Hahah! Yes, JD Robber. I’ve been hunting high and low for her In Death series (in hardback). I really should just give in and do what you do (audiobooks).

Good luck with your summer reading, hun!

  • Awesome book haul! I haven’t read most of these besides The Witch Hunter, that was a terrible read for me. The premise is very misleading, maybe you might like it better? I look forward to reading your reviews.

    • Oh boy. Now I’m worried. It’s that darn hype machine again! Wish me luck, for sure.

  • I’ve been having a hard time with YA contemporary right now as well. I go through stages I think. Here is to hoping that we both find something fantastic soon!

    • Thanks, Ali. I figured out just what type of contemporary I like. Mostly, it has to be deeper than what I’ve been reading lately.

  • LOLOLOL Book Outlet will be the death of everyone.

  • RO

Yay! Love to hear about great deals! Totally enjoy reading Linda Howard books, and can’t wait to check those out. Happy weekend! Hugs…

    • Thanks, Ro! I read one of her books and love that it’s sort of like Sandra Brown’s, so looking forward to reading more from her. 🙂

  • Yay for bookoutlet! I also bought some books there. I´m looking forward to read Witch Hunter.
    Enjoy your books.

  • I really enjoyes The House of Four Winds, I haven’t read the others. Happy reading lady

    • Thanks, Melliane! Looking forward to reading it, too.

  • I must read more Marchetta!

    Happy reading this week 🙂

  • Book Outlet is great! Too bad I need to pay shipping cost per weigh/item to get them delivered overseas. I’m lucky can order from Book Depository and Adlibris (some Swedish Company if I’m not mistaken) at resonable prices. But I also do like to buy books from my local (biggest in Finland) bookstores. It’s nice to put money back into the Finnish (struggling) economy after all.

I’m very interested in Witchhunter. I need to take a closer look and probably buy it soon. 😀

    • Oh that sucks. Shipping can get very expensive, even in Canada. I can’t even imagine in Europe. Anyway, yes, TBD is pretty awesome for not charging for shipping. Makes me wonder how they make a coin. Lol.

      Happy reading, Fhina!

  • Hehehe I’m glad you’re so excited about that book coming out. I’ve never read her books before but if you were flailing and screeching I’m sure they are def Worth reading. Hehe I really need a physical book in my hands because my Kindle just isn’t doing them justice anymore. I totally just want to sit here and state at your books… sigh.

    • We’re the opposite. I need to consider buying more e-books because I’d ran out of room in my house.
