On the Night Table [16]: Things in Ashes and Tides of Molecules

DSC00144

Hello there!

It has been a rather interesting reading week for me. I seem to be on a roll, but that doesn’t mean I’m liking everything I’m reading. I’m always bummed when I don’t quite enjoy a book sent to me for review. I feel I have to be honest at all times, and at the same time, I can’t help but feel a twinge of remorse for expressing how I really feel about the book.

This past week, Galgorithm and Three-Day Summer were those books. I fervently wished that I could’ve enjoyed both, but it really wasn’t in the cards for me. Aside from those two books, I also finished:

  • The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey
  • Best Kept Secrets by Sandra Brown
  • A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson
  • We Are All Made of Molecules by Susin Nielsen

All in all, another great week of reading.

This week, I’ve got four books on the go. But since I’ve already finished We Are All Made of Molecules, technically, I only have three books on the pile this week.

  1. Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby
  2. Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
  3. Tides of Honour by Genevieve Graham

I’ve got some e-ARCs that I’m desperately trying to finish as well. One is Some Kind of Normal by Juliana Stone and Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone. I just got approved to read Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry, so that one’s also on the queue.

I’m really looking forward to reading these books. Now that I’ve sort of gotten a handle on time management, I’m confident that I’ll be able to squeeze them all in my days and nights. That is, if I eliminate such time wasting endeavours like say, sleeping and eating. πŸ™‚

Anyway, have a great week, everyone! And happy reading.

  • I LOVE the cover of We Are All Made of Molecules but I have to say that Ember and TWKBH have my vote πŸ˜‰

  • Aw, yay for getting to read many books πŸ˜€ I hope you’ll read many this week too sweetie. <3 Best of luck with An Ember in the Ashes πŸ™‚ I have heard amazing things, but also some bad things πŸ™ sad face. But I'm so curious about it even so. Must know what you think of it πŸ˜€ Happy reading Joy. <3 Hope you are having an amazing week πŸ™‚

  • Sleeping and eating is for suckers xD (That said, I’m hungry, so goodnight!)

  • I just finished Things We Know by Heart and really enjoyed it! An Ember in the Ashes sounds amazing, too. I’ve heard so many good things about it. I hope you enjoy the books! πŸ™‚

  • An Ember in the Ashes!! there’s so much hype around it and I’m definitely joining it. I really can’t wait to read it but have to find it in local bookstores first. Have a great week, Joy! πŸ™‚

  • I also feel a bit bad when I’m sent a review book and I have to write a negative one. But as you said, we have to be honest. I don’t recognize that Sandra Brown title so I’ll have to go dig. πŸ™‚

  • OH, lucky you. I seem to have only disappointing reads lately. I’m tempted to DNF every book I start, it’s that serious. But, anyway, good for you! And enjoy An Ember in the Ashes πŸ˜€

  • I really liked Things We Know By Heart…I look forward to hearing your thoughts on that one as well as Ember in the Ashes.

  • I thought An Ember in The Ashes was super boring, I DNF. I’m curious about Katie’s new book though, I loved Crash Into You.

  • Christy

I haven’t been enjoying the majority of my ARCs, so … yeah. I liked Nowhere But Here, though.

  • Joy you have some fantastic books to look forward to this week! I really enjoyed Things We Know by Heart, Kirby’s books have definitely been some of my favourite contemporary reads. I also will be reading Every Last Word this week, so I hope we both enjoy it. And I started An Ember in the Ashes yesterday, it’s been a bit of a slow read so far, but hopefully it will pick up!

  • I am curious about Ember

  • Loved Nowhere but Here and can’t wait to hear what you think

  • Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

My copy of Girl at Midnight arrived just yesterday and I can’t wait to read it. And I saw on Facebook that massive heap of books you bought. When you buy, you buy. You’re not kidding. πŸ™‚
I wanted Ember in the Ashes too, but the love triangle made me rethink that.

  • Looking forward to your thoughts on An Ember in the Ashes and The Girl at Midnight Joy! I loved The Girl at Midnight and can’t wait to finally dive into Ember. I’ve been holding off a bit since there’s been so much hype and it makes me nervous that it won’t work quite as well for me as it has for everyone else, but I’m also too curious not to start it soon:)

  • I’m so curious to hear your thoughts on Ember in the Ashes. The hype is scaring me, so I need friends to read it for me first. πŸ™‚
I really enjoyed Nowhere But Here, and I hope you do as well.
    Happy reading, Joy!

  • You are going to love the new McGarry book, it is fabulous!
I hope you enjoy this bunch more than the last. πŸ˜‰

  • It’s a shame there were some reads that fell flat for you this week. I hope you enjoy Nowhere but Here, I hope to read it this week. Fingers crossed your reads are better!
