Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 142

Train Man by Hitori Nakano | Every Soul a Star by Wendy Mass | The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera | Vendetta by Catherine Doyle | The Collector by Nora Roberts | A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas

Yes, I know. This is kind of an untimely post. I usually do my book hauls on Sundays, but since I’ve been pretty much absent lately, I thought doing a book haul post is a good ice breaker.

I’m currently on my second week of vacation here in the Philippines. I haven’t been able to find a good, reliable internet connection – hence, my absence. Our stay has been a whirlwind of seeing one relative after another and reconnecting with friends that I’ve not seen in years. It’s been an absolute delight, albeit an exhausting trip so far. But it’s all worth it. I don’t know when we’ll be able to come back, so I am trying to  make the most of it.

Incidentally, I met Joy of The Bookshelf Intruder last week as well. She’s so great! I can’t believe she was more than happy to meet with some strange Canadian blogger with her little boy in tow. I’m always excited to meet bloggers, but I must admit that I was even more so to  have met someone from this country.

This week, I’ve decided to book us into a hotel instead of staying in my family home. I’m feeling a little inspired and hopeful that I’ll be able to write some posts today.

Back to the book haul, these books were purchased at a couple of bookstores that I’ve always wanted to check out since I’ve booked my flight: National Bookstore and Fully Booked. I am a little underwhelmed by the selections on both stores, but I was told that I have to go to certain franchise locations to find the best place with the most selections. Regardless, I’m happy that I’ve checked these off my list.

So that’s what’s been going on. I hope you haven’t forgotten about me.

Thanks for your patience, dear readers. I love you all. 🙂

  • Hey, Joy! It was so awesome meeting you. That impromptu meetup was one of the highlights of this month for me. <3 I hope you enjoyed the time you spent here and that you had fun catching up with old friends and relatives.

NBS is really pushing to sell more school supplies and less books. Sucks but Fully Booked is doing a better job. And there's Book Sale, too.

  • I used to read Nora Roberts book a couple of years back, I should pick one up again. Great haul – and I hope you’re having a great time, enjoy your vacation! x

  • Glad you’re having such a good trip! It is always lovely to meet bloggers when you travel, and to check out local bookstores (even if the selection doesn’t blow you away). Hope you enjoy your new reads!

  • So many pretties! I’m curious about Vendetta myself. Enjoy! 🙂

  • Enjoy the Philippines! And love your book selection! 🙂

  • Hope you enjoy your trip to the Philippines Joy! It’s been such a long time since I went there, probably my last time was when I was 3 or 4?!

Great haul and I’m digging how you take your pics for your weekly haul!

    Happy Reading 🙂

  • Sounds like you’re having a great time – so just enjoy it while it lasts, we are not going anywhere!! 🙂 And lol, you got Train Main – I loved that j-drama.

  • Christy

Glad you’re having a good time, Joy! Maybe it’s a good thing the bookstores are underwhelming. Then you won’t have to lug so much home.

  • I have Every Soul a Star and I Always say I’m going to read it but never get to it. It’s so awesome that you’re in the Philippines! Who cares about the internet, have fun! 😛 And explore some more bookstores! 😀

  • I’m glad you are having a good time with friends and family! These books are new to me except for A Wicked Thing, which I am really curious about. Hope you have a safe trip!

  • Too bad we weren’t able to meet, Joy. D: I was at Dusit Thani at the beginning of this month for a family dinner, hehe. So glad you were able to meet Joy, at least! <3 And yes, our bookstores here are pretty underwhelming, which is why my Kindle is loading up more than my shelves these days.

  • Aw, I’m glad you’re having a great trip! It’s always wonderful to see friends and family you haven’t seen in a long time.

Ooh, and how fun to visit bookstores in other countries! Definitely not something I’ve ever done. 🙂

  • JOOOOOOOOOOY! I’ve missed you! I’m thrilled you’re having a great time, but it doesn’t sound like you’ve had much time to yourself since you arrived. Hopefully staying in a hotel will give you a bit more privacy and quiet time with your little guy. How has the hubster been coping without you? If he’s anything like mine, you’d probably end up with hundreds of calls per day, from where his clean undies are, to how to you operate the washing machine or can the dog have a drink of Coke, because he looks like he really, really wants one.

Hope you’re taking lots of photos while you’re away, looking forward to you sharing them when you get back <3

  • Have a wonderful vacation! And curious to see what you think of Vendetta — curious about that one!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics

  • You are not forgotten!I hope you are having a great vacation, I head for vacay in May and I’m so excited to get out of the house… i more month! <3 But I am glad to see you got The Collector by Nora Roberts 😀 I really enjoyed it!

  • I’m glad you’re enjoying your trip! And you made it to a couple of bookstores, so yay for that! 🙂

  • Glad you seem to be having fun Joy! I can’t wait to hear about your thoughts on those awesome reads! Enjoy your vacation!

  • Eeeep, Joy!!! I didn’t know you were here in the Philippines until the other Joy (haha) posted that picture with both of you and your son in it! I hope you love A Wicked Thing, dear! It was a decent retelling, albeit a little slow, but it has some gorgeous writing. Are you still here on the 11th? We’ll be having a mini Filipino blogger meet-up!

  • Have a great time on vacation! I see you got Vendetta…I really enjoyed that one (if you like star-crossed lovers meets the Godfather). I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

  • I hope you are having a great time. It is always nice to say in a hotel, let the staff clean up after you and cook the meals!

  • Have a lovely vacay, Joy! Sending good internet connection and excellent selection of books your way 🙂

  • You sneaky Girl!! You didn’t tell me were kabayans!! Enjoy your visit and have your fill of Home. I miss the food so much! Share vacay pics okay! I miss you!

  • Joy we could never forget you!! I’m thrilled to see that you were able to fit in some book shopping and meet up with another blogger whilst you were there. I hope you’re next week is a bit more relaxing for you! 🙂

  • I think it would be so much fun to meet other bloggers and be able to discuss books in person! I am so glad you are having a nice time and congrats on the books!

  • Hugs. <3 You do not have to blog at all while on a vacation sweetie 😀 We will wait until you come back, hih. <3 But yay! I'm so glad you are having a great time 😀 That's awesome. <3 and gorgeous books too 😉 I hope you'll love them all. <3 Happy reading Joy 🙂

  • You’ll have to tell us all how Vendetta goes for you! It sounds really interesting and we miss you, Joy! But I’m glad you’re having fun! 🙂

  • K

Your holiday sounds fun, hope you enjoy! I really want to read A Wicked Thing and Vendetta – they look great! Enjoy your new books! <3

  • Ah Joy, I didn’t think you were living in the PH permanently but it sounds like you’re really enjoying your holiday! It sounds like you had such a fun time with Joy hehe!

  • Have fun!

    And yay books 🙂
