Waiting on Wednesday [7]: China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan

22674105 PUBLICATION DATE: June 16th, 2015
Knopf Doubleday

On the eve of her wedding to Nicholas Young, heir to one of the greatest fortunes in Asia, Rachel should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond from JAR, a wedding dress she loves more than anything found in the salons of Paris, and a fiancé willing to sacrifice his entire inheritance in order to marry her. But Rachel still mourns the fact that her birthfather, a man she never knew, won’t be able to walk her down the aisle. Until: a shocking revelation draws Rachel into a world of Shanghai splendor beyond anything she has ever imagined.

Here we meet Carlton, a Ferrari-crashing bad boy known for Prince Harry-like antics; Colette, a celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi; and the man Rachel has spent her entire life waiting to meet: her father. Meanwhile, Singapore’s It Girl, Astrid Leong, is shocked to discover that there is a downside to having a newly minted tech billionaire husband. A romp through Asia’s most exclusive clubs, auction houses, and estates, China Rich Girlfriend brings us into the elite circles of Mainland China, introducing a captivating cast of characters, and offering an inside glimpse at what it’s like to be gloriously, crazily, China-rich.

When was the last time I’ve done one of these, you ask? Well, considering I’ve been blogging for a number of years and this is only the 7th time I’ve done one of these posts…I honestly cannot even remember.

My need for this book is dire. This is Kevin Kwan’s second book; his follow-up to Crazy Rich Asians. I didn’t even know there was an instalment until I saw some pretty lucky bloggers Instagramming their ARCs. After adding this book to my Goodreads shelves, I slaughtered a virgin goat and offered it to the statue of Libriosa (ARC-giving goddess). Hopefully, she’ll hear my prayers and grant me this wish.

What are you waiting on today?

  • Oh, I have yet to read Crazy Rich Asians BUT it’s on my TBR 🙂

  • I was quite shocked to see you doing a WoW! Sometimes the need overcomes though, huh? 🙂

I’ve heard of the first book, but not this one. It sounds like a lot of fun, though! I hope Libriosa favors you, Joy! 🙂

  • This is a new author to me, but this one of the main reasons that i like this meme, to “find” new authors.
Hope you get this ARC, Joy.

  • Sounds like an exciting book 😀 Fingers crossed you will get this ARC Joy. <3 and hoping you will love this book too 🙂 Thank you for sharing sweetie. <3

  • This sounds like fun! I hope you can grab up a copy soon- I’d love to see what your thoughts are on it since the author is completely new to me 🙂

  • Ohhhh follow-up? Want!

  • I will check out Crazy Rich Asians. I find Asian stereotypes funny. We are an odd bunch

  • ” I slaughtered a virgin goat and offered it to the statue of Libriosa (ARC-giving goddess)” 😀 This just made me snort tea out of my nose. I need to read Kevin’s first book because I’ve heard nothing but good things. Can’t wait to hear what you think of this one!

  • Well the ARC goddess simply can’t say no to that can she!

Without sounding like a complete wanker, I’ve seen so many incredible reviews around for Crazy Rich Asians, but being a middle class white girl, would I understand the humour? I like to diversify my reading, but I worry that this one might be a little over my head.

  • This looks like such a fun read, Joy! And haha! You crack me up with your phrases. I hope the arc gods manages to grant you your wish!!

  • I’m not familiar with this author Joy! I’ll definitely have to look up the first book since you loved it so much. I hope the goddess Libriosa takes note of your sacrifice and grants you an ARC of this one!

  • I love this: “After adding this book to my Goodreads shelves, I slaughtered a virgin goat and offered it to the statue of Libriosa (ARC-giving goddess)” Lol, Joy!! That outta work. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. 🙂

  • hahaha I hope that you’re able to get your hands on a ARC of this book soon Joy, I’ve not read anything by Kwan before, but can see that his books sound like a lot of fun! Great pick! 🙂

  • Haha. I hope your sacrifice doesn’t go unnoticed. 🙂

  • Oh! This one does sound good. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it….I hope you get an ARC. Great pick!

  • This does look interesting! I hope you end up loving it!

  • My sister brought home a book one day and said the local newspaper was giving them out for free. She gave it to me and it was Crazy Rich Asian. Up until that point I’d never heard of the book. Since you’re doing that ritual for the sequel, I’m thinking I should pick up this first book eh 😉

  • Oh yes this one sounds so nice!

  • This is a new author to me, but it sounds like a good read. Hope you manage to snag a copy soon!
