Swoonuary: A Month for Romance

Swoonuary (1) Now, we all know I read and review just about anything on the blog. But I’ve also been notoriously guilty whenever I read books that are purely mind candy: tasty reads but you don’t get much “nutritional value”.

This month, I decided to join in the fun with the ladies of The Bookish Groupies as they celebrate this month of romance. How, you might ask? Well, since I’m only good for one thing, and one thing only, I decided to read a few romance books this month. This is funny to me, because before drafting this post, Carmel of Rabid Reads asked her readers if they’re “seasonal readers”. I said I wasn’t. And sure enough, here I am.

Anyway, who can resist reading sugary sweet romance books? Heck, you bet your Edible arrangement I will take advantage of any excuse to read them free of guilt! While I have been slowly easing away any former hang ups I might’ve had with reading romance books in the past, I haven’t fully embraced it! So this month, I thought it’s as good a time as any.

I’m going to attempt to read the following books:

Once Upon a Rose [La Vie En Rose, #1] by Laura Florand

Right. So I’ve been mildly obsessed with Amour et Chocolat  by this author. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve read most of the books and novellas in this series. Rachel of The Readers’ Den recently read and loved this book, so of course I had to download a copy! Seriously, Rachel and Jasprit are going to be the death of me. Any who, looking forward to reading this one!

20799724 Burn for Me [Hidden Legacy, #1] by Ilona Andrews

I’m cheating a little bit. This one is not really pure romance, but much of the ‘flailing’ reviews on Goodreads and the blogosphere touched on how fantastic the romance is in this book. I’m also killing two birds in one store here since it’s an Urban Fantasy; a genre that I decided to explore more this year. I’m dying to read this book!

20910177 Keep Me Safe [Slow Burn, #1] by Maya Banks.

I just know this book is going to be a sizzler! I’ve read a few of Ms. Banks books, and if those are any indication of what I’m in for, there’s no doubt that I’ll guiltily happily enjoy this one!

So I hope you’ll check out all the books that will be reviewed during this month. The ladies involved in this event are sweet bloggers who reached out to me to see if I’d be interested. Check out their blogs, will you?

Happy reading!

  • Great picks, Joy! So glad to have you participate. 😀 I haven’t read any of these books, but I’ve heard of Ilona Andrews and Maya Banks. 😀 The Maya Banks book looks really intriguing though. Definitely checking these out! Happy Reading! 😀

  • How fun! I loooove me some fluffy romance, more so on the cutesy YA line than adult, but I definitely find myself getting into those too. 🙂 I really can’t read seasonally, aside from more contemporaries in the summer. Even then, though, after two or three I have to pick something else up. I’m more of a mood reader and only want to read a certain type of book for a five or six book stretch, no matter the time of year. (Though, most often it’s fantasy.)

  • I tried doing a themed month once of like horror and I just couldn’t handle it. I think unless I’m in the mood to read a bunch of that , like romance it just won’t work out. I have done binge reading of a genre or theme before but not seasonally only just cause I was in the mood.

  • I want to read Burn for Me! That has been on the tbr for a while, looking forward to your review!

  • Yay to Burn for Me. Yeah, it’s not big on the romance side, but it gets a lot of love from me. 🙂

  • Yay 😀 Gorgeous post Joy. <3 Glad you are reading and loving so many awesome books 🙂 I haven't read any of these, but they sound cute. <3 Hope you'll love them all 😀 Thank you for sharing sweetie 🙂

  • I understand what you mean about it being difficult to read purely tasty books sometimes, but occasionally I even learn little things from those as well! I am very curious to see what you will think of the Maya Banks and also Illona Andrews book!

  • I have yet to read a pure romance novel that isn’t YA, but I do want to try it. I THINK I AM OLD ENOUGH NOW (I was old enough 3 years ago) hahah….ha. Though Burn For Me sounds really good, plus I’m a fantasy nut so I should probably ease my way through the genre.

  • Call me crazy but I love these guilty reads, I need these reads every now and then just to refresh my palate so to speak!

  • The only romance I read for Valentine’s Day was “A Little Something Different” by Sandy Hall but I usually don’t read by seasons. I’m very curious about Ilona Andrews though… she pops up everywhere I look! Haha

  • Burn For Me was a really good read for me, too! I loved the family dynamics, although the love interest kind of worries me a bit. Have you tried the author’s Clean Sweep??? SO SO SO GOOD. I may even like it a tad better than the Kate Daniels series lol

  • that’s nice! I hope you’ll enjoy them. I just loved Burn for Me!!!! Great choice!

  • I love the candy book

  • I love fluffy romances too Joy, more so YA releases. I haven’t had much luck with NA, so stick to the basics. One of my favourites of late has been A Little Something Different, but for me, nothing is as sweeter than Anna and the French Kiss. So swoony. Burn For Me sounds pretty good, urban fantasy with a strong burning romance. Count me in. Looking forward to seeing what you think of these Joy <3

  • Haha, I would say I’m not a seasonal reader either but I *want* to be, like I love the idea of reading romance books on V Day and wintery books during Christmas, if that makes sense. I haven’t heard of any of these but I will be looking forward to your reviews!
