Hello!

How’ve your week been? Well, my birthday came and went quietly. I turned 41 last Wednesday with very little fanfare. This has been the tradition, it seems like. It’s all good, though. I’m not complaining. I’m thankful for every blessings I get every day so another year of having this wonderful life is all the gift I need. 🙂

Next week, my husband is on the hook for a pair of Manolo Blahniks. No ifs and buts about it! Ha.

I didn’t read too many books this week. I only managed to finish one book which is a huge tome, to be honest! We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas pretty much took up most of my time. No surprise there considering it’s a 620-page book. It was a labor of love type of read as it was the story of a family that spanned years and years. I thought I wasn’t going to be able finish, but I ended up loving it. There may have been tears as well.

I’m Vegas bound for the Valentine’s weekend with the hubby next week, but I’ll be around regardless.

Have you read any of these?

  • ” What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas ! ” I hope you guys have a lovely trip! I’ve always wanted to visit Vegas and get my drink on! lol. It’s funny that every time I need an Adult fiction recommendation, I always think to come and stalk your blog. I always find some hidden gems here, but my problem is I need to stop hauling books and read what I’ve already purchased. Back in November I snatched up The Miniaturist, but have yet to read it! I actually went to start it, read one paragraph, and because it felt like a classic, I put it down lol. I’m definitely going to pick it back up, I apparently just wasn’t in the mood for it. Amazing haul, and I love your photography!

  • so many different type of pretties! have not read any of them, but hope you enjoy

  • David Duchovny wrote a book! Well what do you know – I better read the description of it – though I won’t read it. I just have this weird aversion to reading books by actors. Is that strange? I recognize The Miniaturist, I had an ARC from last years BEA but gave it to my sister because she said it sounded good (then of course she hasn’t even read it yet LOL) So I’ll have to wait to hear what you think.

  • Happy belated birthday! Congrats on the haul! I haven’t even heard of any of those books. I hope you have fun next week in Vegas.

  • Happy belated birthday Joy! It’s mine in a few days as well, the big 35. I think we’re officially adults now.

Wow, Vegas baby! That’s a lovely little getaway, got room in that suitcase for one more?
Lovely haul this week, the only one I’ve read is The Sky So Heavy and absolutely loved it. It was actually written with the plight of the refugees who try to settle in Australia in mind. It gave me a whole new perspective of what they must go through just to seek refuge, it’s still stayed with me even more than a year after reading. I can’t wait to see what you think of it <3

  • Happy belated birthday!

I haven’t read any of the books you got this week but I’ve heard good things about The Sky So Heavy!

    I hope you enjoy Vegas!

  • Happy Birthday and have a great Valentines in Vegas with the hubby!!

Thanx for visiting My Weekly Wrap-Up!

  • I hope you had a great birthday Joy! Book shopping is always the best way to treat yourself as well as some Manalo Blahniks! A lot of these books I’ve not heard of before, but I look forward to seeing how you get on with them. I also only managed to read one book this week, so don’t worry we were totally in the same boat, here’s to more reading this week! I hope you have a great time in Vegas too!

    • Thank you, Jas! I’m looking forward to do a bit of reading while we’re there, so crossing my fingers. 🙂

  • Happy Belated Birthday! I don’t typically do much for my birthday besides cake and maybe money, but I’m a homebody 🙂 Nothing wrong taking it easy!

  • Happy Belated Birthday this week. You got some interesting books as the only one I have heard of is The Minituarist. Enjoy all these new books.

  • Happy belated birthday!! I have read If I Fall, If I Die. The pacing was a little slow in certain parts, but I still enjoyed it.

    • Thanks, Cyn! Looking forward to reading that book. 😉

  • I only recognize The Raven in this group. I read the first book by Reynard and enjoyed it but couldn’t get into the sequel. Hope you enjoy this installment. Have fun in Vegas with your hubby! 🙂

    • Thanks, Rachel. I’m raring to read it. 🙂

  • Happy Belated Birthday, Joy!!

I haven’t read that much this week either (but finally finished The Stories of Ibis, which too was a tome, and an AMAZING one)
