AFTER by Anna Todd | ETTA and OTTO and RUSSELL and JAMES by Emma Hooper | VIENNA NOCTURNE by Vivien Shotwell | THE WHITE RUSSIAN by Vanora Bennett | THE STRANGE LIBRARY by Haruki Murakami

Hello, all.

I just can’t seem to resist buying books. Gah. I read a lot this week, though. But I’m not planning on adding anything new to my current reads. The good thing about this self-imposed reading marathon is that I’m making some headway on my TBR. I’m also way ahead of my blogging schedule. At the moment, I’m booked up until the end of January – which is a rarity!

This week, I got one book for review from Simon & Schuster Canada. To be honest, I’m having second thoughts about agreeing to review this book. AFTER by Anna Todd is not a good book. I don’t like the characters and the theme it tackles. Basically, you can let a guy play with your emotions because LOVE. Which is a total bullshit. I know what I like, and I can already tell that  I have a very low tolerance for Tessa’s and Hardin’s characterizations. But I’m going to remain hopeful that I can find some redeeming qualities about them.  And who knows? Maybe I’ll get addicted to this series? Maybe this book will be the start of a twisted relationship? And maybe, Christian Louboutin will finally invent a pair of six-inch-stiletto heels that feels as comfortable as fuzzy slippers.

WINNERS!

*throws confetti*

  1. $20 Amazon Gift Card was won by Brooke. She responded and I think she’s already collected her winnings.
  2. $20 Amazon Gift Card was won by Glass. She’s collected her winnings as well.
  3. Two books of choice from TBD  was won by Pat. She chose Murder in Death’s Door by Elizabeth Rose and Bake, Battle & Roll by Leighann Dobbs.
  4. THE MOTHER LOAD was won by Jessica! She’s already responded, and is probably anxiously waiting for these books. They’ll be on their way come Monday,  Jessica. Looking for a box big enough for all these goodies. Eeeeeeep.

That’s been my week. How was yours?

  • I bought After a few weeks ago, but I’m not sure if I’ll be reading it anymore. Hardin just seems like a jerk and the characters’ relationship doesn’t seem healthy 🙁 I’m curious about When, though, as the premise is so unique! I hope you enjoy all of your books 🙂

    • Nope. They have the worst kind of relationship ever known to man. :/

  • Yay for books! Sorry I don’t know any of them. But ahh, sucks that you didn’t like After. I hope your next read is better 🙁

  • What, that book sounds so crappy. It’s easy enough as it is to fall in and let a guy play with your emotions. Books should really not encourage that. They should encourage strenght. Stupid book.

    – Love, Felicia

    • Ugh. I don’t even know how to approach this book. It’s like, every time I try to open it, my chest constricts.

  • I hope you do find something you like in When. Enjoy your reads joy!!

  • I totally struggle with buying books now, especially since I decided to go on a book buying ban (bar the bookfest, because that only comes around twice a year). I’ve got after on my shelf as an unsolicited read, and it doesn’t sound very good at all! Definitely not the type of love interest I like. Happy reading Joy!

    • Thanks, Jeann. What do we do? Because it does sound like the character is a huge Mary Sue who lets a guy get away with everything. Bah.

  • Congrats to all the winners!

And well done one booking yourself out for the month Joy, so impressed! I’m starting to get used to scheduling things into the calendar and keeping up with it, so the 2015 blogging resolution is going well. That S&S book sounds pretty bad, and I can already tell I wouldn’t be a fan of it either. I hope for your sake that it gets better! Happy reading lovely xx

    • Thanks, Joy. I don’t think it will, to be honest. It’s making my blood boil just thinking about it. :/

  • Oh I hope you enjoyed When. I really liked that one!

  • Ugh, sorry that you aren’t enjoying After. From your description, I would not enjoy it either, I hate books like that. I read the synopsis on Goodreads and… what!? How are there nearly 600 pages about some douchey guy?! And Harry Styles fan fiction!? What kind of fresh hell is that!? Oh my goodness. On the bright side, the font for Etta and Otto and Russell and James is SO adorable! And the Louboutin comparison had me chuckling!

Great job with being ahead of schedule too, that is great! And I hope you can either DNF this book, or get through it faster. It sounds pretty bad, and I hope your next book is extra great to make up for it 😉

  • Can’t wait to see what you think of After and When! I have them both on my TBR. Enjoy all your books!

    • When was awesome. After is…

      Thanks, Marianne!

  • Congrats on being so ahead on your scheduled posts, that is awesome! I am only about a week ahead right now but at least I am ahead right? 😛
Congrats on the books as well!

  • After sounds really annoying, ugh. I don’t blame you for having second thoughts.

Sounds like I need to have a self imposed reading marathon too. My TBR just unintentionally grew O_O

I hope your next week of reading is a good one!

    • I’m so not looking forward to reading it. Whelp.

  • I really hope that the increased number of Florand books you’re reading means you’re enjoying her work more, now. I loved Dark Triumph and I’ve been hearing a LOT of amazing things about When so I’m curious to read your thoughts on those. I haven’t heard of the novels you picked up this week but they look fantastic! Happy Reading!(:

  • Hmph. I don’t have any of these books, lol 🙂 But they look pretty awesome. <3 I hope you will end up loving them all Joy 😀 And YAY for reading so many books already. <3 You are amazing. And aw, congrats to all the winners, though still a bit sad I wasn't one of them, lol 🙂 Happy reading sweetie. <3

  • Oh, you are a busybee, J.! Can’t say I have reviews scheduled for further than a week ahead 🙂 Well done! Your Loboutin joke made me chuckle :)))

  • Looks like you got some awesome books this week! They are all new to me, so I will have to look into them. BTW, I love the pictures you take of your books…they are fantastic! Happy reading!

  • Sorry After isn’t doing it for you. Hope it gets better! I got Dark Triumph from the library this week, so that’s going to be one of my next reads. Looking forward to seeing what you thought of it!

Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction

    • I haven’t started it yet, to be honest. My 13-yr-old told me the gist, and she said I wouldn’t like it. She explained it to me.

  • After sounds like it will be a great read. Hope you enjoy and have a great week.

    • Probably. But not for me, obviously. 🙂

  • resisting buying books = one great problem we’ll never solve. lol.

I was intrigued by After (just because of that vague title and nice looking cover).. but yeah, now it sounds bad after reading some of your thoughts. I’ve never heard of these books before. hope you’ll enjoy them though (well not After I guess)..

  • My week was pretty much spent in school teaching and therefore preparing for next classes, so I didn’t have much time for reading. Thank God for weekends! I’ve received an arc from my favorite mm series this week and couldn’t resist reading it, so other books were put on waiting.

Sorry about After, hope it gets better.

    • I don’t know that it will, to be honest. But thanks for the well wishes. 🙂

  • I’m sorry about After. It’s been released in France and I heard great things about it but now I don’t know. Happy reading!

  • I’ve received AFTER for review too, but have not started it yet. Oh, I’m so disppointed to hear that about the characters. uuugh, hope they won’t be that bad. Nice new purchases!!

  • One direction fan fic, yeah no thanks

  • Christy

What. The. Fuck … After is One Direction fanfic??? LOL. I went to goodreads to see what it was all about and about died laughing. Not going to lie, I’m curious now. But don’t know how seriously I could take it.
