Hello there.

Happy New Year! How’s the start of your 2015 so far? Well, we’re back in Canada, and freezing doesn’t even come close to describe how cold it is here. Winter is definitely here – a departure from the weather in Florida! I think it went down to -40 with the windchill today. Brrrr. Same old, same old. πŸ™‚

Last year, around this time, I was lamenting about how much I suck because I wasn’t able to do much postings while Β we were away on Christmas break. Well, this year is a different matter. I’ve been able to keep the momentum going, and was able to visit blogs as well. I find that if I take a hiatus (however long it may be), Β trying to get back on the saddle again is a difficult thing. So I’m glad that I didn’t slack off this time.

Obviously, my year of staying away from bookstores is not off to a good start. But I can explain.

Three of these books were bought on my last trip to Barnes & Noble in Florida, and the rest are books that I bought with the Christmas gift cards I got from relatives.

2015 LGBT Challenge

Aside from my Goodreads goal to read 150 books this year, I also signed up to the only challenge I’m doing for 2015. Cayce of nijifeels.comΒ is the hostess with the mostest for this awesome challenge. I love this because it’s the best way to highlight some LGBT books that have been sitting neglected on my shelves. So if you’re interested, you can sign up here.

P.S.A.

My year end purging giveaway is still going on. So when you get the chance, go ahead and enter to win some fantastic books, Amazon gift cards, or a couple of books from TBD. This contest is running until January 15th.
  • I really want you to read Red Rising and Golden Son but at the same time I am terrified that for some reason you won’t like them *bites nails* Only one way to find out! (hint hint) πŸ˜€

    • Oh I knoooowwww. I’ve got it on my reading queue, I promise. πŸ™‚

  • I was in the minority who didn’t love Red Rising. But I’m willing to accept I somehow missed something, and I’ve got Golden Son on hold at the library. I’m hoping I like it better than RR.

    • I have yet to read it, sadly. Hopefully soon.

  • Yes! For Christmas many book lovers end up with books or giftcards, even if they are saying that they will buy less books. So I think you can be excused for this one. I have heard some good things about Zoadic but am not too sure about it myself, so I am looking forward to that review. Oh, and I absolutely love the looks of Golden Boy. That’s a series I really need to start!

    • And unfortunately, I failed again this week because there were some great books that came out that I just HAVE to get. I suck.

  • You got a lot of amazing books. I don’t know if Zodiac is any good, but I know the cover for it is so colorful! AND YAY GOLDEN SON. I’m currently reading that one (but kind of having trouble with it and I don’t know why. I think it’s just because it’s the beginning).

  • ZOdiac has been showing up in my Facebook feed for ages and I’m very curious about it. I’m also excited about your LGBT challenge! Feel free to throw any and all recommendations my way and also let me know if you need some in return. πŸ™‚

  • Woo, gift cards! Your relatives know you well. πŸ™‚

Have you read Red Rising? I keep reading about how good it and Golden Son are and have it for a long time, so I think it might be time to actually pick it up. (Plus Pierce Brown is really attractive. Is it bad that that’s motivation? Shame on me.)

I hope you’ll have a great week and stay warm!

    • I haven’t read Red Rising yet. I’ve been seeing some polarizing reviews though…

  • sandys5

You have some excellent reads and the weather to just grab a blanket and cozy up to some warm reading. Just read Little White Lies and I loved it! I have Zodiac checked out so I hope it is great also as I have heard so many great things about it. We’re expecting 7-9 inches of snow tomorrow night and highs all weeks between zero and the teens, nothing like living in the Midwest.

    • Well, we’re north of your Midwest, so I can certainly see where you’re coming from. πŸ™‚

I’m glad Little White Lies was great! Looking forward to reading it now. Thanks for stopping by!

  • I wish I lived in FL right now & its only 40deg here. I cant imagine how cold Canada is right now. I hope its not too harsh, see you around babe!

    • Oh you know. It’s life. I don’t know why some people in my city complains about the weather, when they should be used to it by now. πŸ™‚

  • πŸ™ I only check windchill when I am skiing and then I cry a little if it’s below freezing. I have this theory that at some point I cease feeling the cold, but idk, that may just be me kidding myself…

    • πŸ™‚ I’m used to this weather, but sometimes, frigid temps for weeks is just too freaking much.

  • It got pretty cold in here as well and I would rather not go outside at all, sadly that is not an option. Today the wind was especially bad. Brrrr~

I only got one book this week and am planning to really cut back on buying books (until I have read the ones I got for Christmas), but we will see…

Btw, love the part where you announce your signing up for the LGBT challenge πŸ˜€

    • That’s my plan this year, too. Hopefully, we both can stick to the plan. πŸ™‚

  • Happy New Year! I love The Chocolate Touch to pieces and am so excited to read The Golden Son soon. Wonderful haul, dear!(:

    • Thanks, Keertana! The Chocolate Touch is definitely a favourite. πŸ™‚

  • Wonderful haul! Even though I did not enjoy ”Red Rising”, that ”Golden Son” book looks amazing (just the cover, HA) ;D I’m still thinking if or not I will join LGBT challenge this year. I think I will…and be more active than last year ahhaha. I really slacked. You know, being an habitant of QuΓ©bec, I understand what you’re going through with the weather. I didn’t even go outside for a walk during my whole Winter Break. Ouch, winter is the worst for shape.

    • Oh hey! I didn’t know you’re Canadian, too. Sweet! Well, being in Winnipeg, it’s tough to do any outdoor exercise activities during the winter. It gets extremely cold here. So good luck to you!

  • I knew you’ll be freezing getting bac to Canada, J.! You need a nice stiff drink every time you sit down by the fire and read your book (that’s what I do in the end of the day anyway).Keep forgetting about starting Florand.Damn! Hope you enjoy all your reads!:)

    • Ha. I wish I can stand to drink, heck take a sip of a stiff drink. I can’t drink to save my life, unfortunately. πŸ™‚

  • Happy new year Joy!!! Nice haul and the LGBT challenge sounds good I might sing up to that one, but IΒ΄m not really goood with reading challenges.
    enjoy your books.

  • I’ve heard great things about Zodiac! It definitely sounds pretty unique, with the astrology elements. I haven’t read Red Rising yet, but I’m hoping to read that and Golden Son sometime this year. I hope you enjoy all of your books πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Montana. I’ll be on the lookout for your review. πŸ™‚

  • I’m on a buying ban too at the moment, but mine will probably be about as successful as yours really. I can’t help myself either. I’d love to trade your freezing conditions for our summer at the moment, my goodness, you could have tried an egg outside on the weekend. I really just want to see snow. Ooh, you should post photos, then I can live vicariously through you.

Nice haul Joy, I love all the retro covers. Your bookshelves must look incredible! Will be awaiting your thoughts, especially on Golden Son. I’ve tried to read Red Rising twice now and have had no luck.

    Thanks for sharing poppet <3

    • *cries* I’m about to go on one, too. Wish me luck. πŸ™

  • On the Edge sounds good, hope you enjoy. Happy 2015!

  • Yay πŸ˜€ Glad you had a great holiday sweetie. <3 And you are awesome for still blogging and such while on vacation πŸ™‚ And yay for buying more books, lol. <3 I'm also getting Golden Son, though I have yet to read book one, but soooon, I hope. <3 Hope you'll love them all Joy πŸ™‚ Happy reading. <3

    • you and me both, then. i haven’t read the first book either. enjoy!

  • I am so excited you got Golden Son, it is fabulous! I can’t wait to see what you think about it.

And -40? Yikes, that is way too cold! It has been in the single digits at night here and in the teens or low 20’s during the day and that is way too cold! I couldn’t imagine it being colder than that.

    Stay warm!!

    • I need to read Red Rising first, though. Gah.

  • Loved Sex Criminals. There’s some nice books up there πŸ™‚ I think you always have good choices.

    • Thank, Kat. πŸ™‚ I enjoyed Sex Criminals, too.

  • You already have GOLDEN SON! I’m so jealous because it’s so early! Hopefully my local bookstore will have it on time.. I’m also thinking of grabbing Zodiac this coming week πŸ™‚

Awesome haul! Enjoy your new books, Joy πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, czai. When was it supposed to be out?

      • last time I check it’s schedule for release on Jan6, Tuesday πŸ™‚

  • So many gorgeous books Joy! I really want to read Brown’s books, but when I started Red Rising a few months ago I really couldn’t get into it, but I know so many people that loved it, so I know that I will have to try and give it another go soon! And yay I’m glad that you started Florand’s series, I can’t wait to see what you think of my favourite The Chocolate Rose! Happy reading! πŸ™‚

    • I’m worried, too that I might not like it. This is one of those instances where I’m succumbing to the peer pressure…also, the author is a cutie. Lol. Sheesh. Objectification much? >.< Anyway, I'm slowly liking the books. I had a rough start, but so far, my favourite pairing is Jaime and Dominique. πŸ™‚

  • Oh that’s nice, many books! I heard great things about the Pierce books. happy reading and have a nice week!

  • I wonder why we never check windchill here…we are weird

  • K

I’ve heard really good things about Pierce Brown’s books! They sound really interesting.

    Enjoy your new books! πŸ™‚
