Friday Finds [4]: Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky

sex criminalsGraphic novels is fast becoming an addiction. And this – after only reading the Saga series. I found Sex Criminals while I was looking for suggestions on Amazon, and with a title like that, who wouldn’t want to read it? Besides the erotic connotations, I was curious to see how this twist on Bonnie & Clyde will play out.

GOODREADS SUMMARY

Suzie’s just a regular gal with an irregular gift: when she has sex, she stops time. One day she meets Jon and it turns out he has the same ability. And sooner or later they get around to using their gifts to do what we’d ALL do: rob a couple banks. A bawdy and brazen sex comedy for comics begins here!

Have you read this?
  • I haven´t read any graphic novels so far, but I plan to buy Saga and Seconds because I´ve read some really good reviews about them.
I´ll be waiting for your review of this one.

    • Ohh I must check out Seconds. Also, Saga is awesome. I hope you’ll enjoy. 🙂

  • No but I’d read the book version if there’s one. For some reason I can’t get into graphic novels anymore. Still it’s great that you’re diversifying 🙂

Happy 2015, Joy! I haven’t been around much this week, holidays and all. I hope you had a blast in your cabin!

    • Haha! If this was turned into a full-length novel, many would question the authors’ sanity. Because, this is outrageous. Lol.

      Happy New Year, Braine!

  • I actually picked this up way earlier this year and never got around to reading it. It’s on the shelf right next to my bed tho. I should hop to it. But I’m feeling like some darker slightly creepy cute stuff like maybe GLOOM COOKIE which I also picked up this year.

    • Just read it. It’s a quick read. For some odd reason, I found that there wasn’t nearly as much dialogue in this one compared to Saga. I had a blast reading this!

  • Faye M.

Love the cover! Graphic novels used to be something I read exclusively back in the day (more in the form of Japanese manga though 😉 ) and the Western comics I read before have only been The Walking Dead. I’ll try this one for sure!!!

    • This is almost…pornographic. But man, did I ever had fun reading it. Lol.

  • This baby has been sitting on my amazon wishlist along with a slew of other graphic novels. I seriously need to remember to buy the books of my wishlist first, because apparently I keep forgetting them lol. Hope you enjoy 🙂

    • It was a fantastic read, Tika. My review will be up next, next week, I think. 🙂

  • Wow, this would definitely be interesting given the erotic stuff in a graphic novel! Hope you enjoy!

    • Ha. I’ll try to include some pornographic pictures on my review, Jeann. Just for you. *winks*

  • Now see…I heard this graphic novel has glow in the dark genitals. Does this mean the ink glows in the dark? Or are the genitals just illustrated as such? This is important, and it could be the deciding factor in my purchasing of this series…

    • Ohhhh I must test this theory. His er, thing does glow in the dark, but I don’t know if the illustrator used a special type of ink. Good to know!

  • I have heard about this one, so many times, lol! I’m quite curious about it too, but… I look forward to hearing what you think about it!

    • Thanks, Margie. I enjoyed it, but not nearly in the league of Saga. 🙂

  • I haven’t (in fact I haven’t even heard of it) but it sounds like something I’d enjoy 😛 Great find, Joy!

  • Ok time stops..do they have to have sex while it stops or is it like. I am done, and time is still stopped for 2 min

    • Time stops after they, er…finished. 🙂

  • I have not read it yet, but I have heard of it. There was a month when I was really addicted to graphic novels but now it slowed down a little. Will try to find it some time though. So curious 🙂

    • If you are, I hope you’ll read Saga first. 🙂

  • A twist on Bonnie and Clyde sounds fun, I hope it ends up panning out!

  • I’ve enjoyed graphic novels for quite some time but I don’t own very many because I find them to be a bit pricey. These days I mostly collect the Walking Dead graphic novels. Although, with the description of this graphic novel I can see why you’d want to check it out! I’ve always found graphic novels a great medium for storytelling; the blend of graphic art and literary dialogue can sometimes be a match made in heaven.

In the same vein I also enjoy my share of manga but that’s a whole other can of worms.

    • This is just my second taste of graphic novels, and I can definitely see the allure. While this one isn’t as evolved as Saga, the outrageous story arch made for a fun read, anyway. 🙂

My daughter is heavy into Manga. I always say that reading them, or even owning them is an OCD’s nightmare. I don’t know why. Lol.

  • I saw this in a book shop somewhere and I was like whaaaat?! This is definitely…different. Haha! It was sealed so I couldn’t scan the pages but I’m glad you decided to get this one Joy! I look forward to what you think 😉 How’s the art? Any good?

    • Lol. It’s sealed because it’s pornographic. I enjoyed it. 🙂

  • I love that you’re always trying out these different genres! Very fun. I don’t think I’ve really read any graphic novel apart from The Archie Comics when I was younger (does that even count?). I’m curious to hear your thoughts! 🙂

    • It’s funny you mentioned Archie comics. I drafted my review last night and one of the sub header is: This Ain’t No Archie Comics. Because damn. Lol.

  • Yay for wanting to read more graphic novels 😀 And lol, this book do sound pretty interesting 😀 Curious to hear what you think of it. <3 Happy reading Joy 😀 I hope you'll love this one 🙂

    • Thanks, C. I think you would so enjoy graphic novels! I hope you’ll give them a chance. 🙂

  • Hmm… Well, color me intrigued! 😉

    • That is exactly what I said when I saw it on Amazon. Heheheh.

  • Not exactly into graphic novel but sounds fun!

    • This might be right up your alley. It’s erotica. *winks*

  • Oh wow, this sounds really good. I am clueless about graphic novels, but I need to find one for my Read Harder Challenge. This one sounds great.

    • If you want to give graphic novels a try, I suggest you read Saga by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples. This one was fun, but you’ll truly appreciate why graphic novels is the best way to read Sci-Fi if you start with Saga. 🙂

  • I haven’t heard of this one but I’m curious to see how it is.

  • I just read the first one of these yesterday and really enjoyed it – I’m still really new to graphic novels and comics, but this was funny and clever and just a little bit strange. Definitely recommend it!

    • Totally agree with you! Funny and strange perfectly describes my reading experience as well. 🙂
