Obviously, the book buying ban lasted about 43 seconds. This is why any diet and exercise regiment never work out well for me. I can never stick to anything. My lack of self control is famous around these parts of world, yanno?

Do I smell fresh paint?

You know what else I’m known for? Spontaneity (more like, impulsiveness). I’m serious. Last week, as I was trolling Goodreads, I found Carmel of Rabid Reads (awesome blogger extraordinaire)! She mentioned on her profile that she offers web master services to bloggers. So I figure, I’d ask her about it and see how she can help my blog transition to being self-hosted (FINALLY). She was awesome! And patient. We hit a bit of a snag, but hey. I’m finally self hosted! *throws confetti* So yeah, you may notice the blog changed a bit, and this is all thanks to Carmel. I wanted to keep the same design as my former one, and thankfully, Carmel was able to replicate it.

I haven’t had a chance to check out all the cool plugins I can play around with, but I’m looking forward to bedazzling the shizz out of my blog.

Read any good books lately?

Mrs. Poe and Sweet Tooth were unremarkable. The Darkest Minds was inexcusable. When the World was Flat (And We Were in Love) was inexplicable.

I’m down to the last book on my winter reading list. I can’t believe I actually stuck through it. There’s hope for me yet. Ha.  I can probably round up some more books that need some lovin’ from their owner, so look forward to another set of five books I’m dying to read before the year is out. What a great way to dust off neglected books on my TBR!

In the next week or so, come back and check out my interview with the husband in a segment that I dubbed At Home with a Book Addict. I hope he’ll agree to let me put up his picture. 🙂

I’ll be around to visit your blogs later.

xoxo

Joy

  • AHHHHH! I spy Boys Like You!!! 1 – I LOVED that book, and 2 – How did you get that cover??? I tried to buy it in hardcopy (I read the eBook) and they’ve done a cover change (it’s not good)!! Where?! Please tell me!!! R x

    • Oh I can practically feel your excitable anxiety. Lol. I ordered it from Amazon. 😀

  • I see! I was wondering why I can’t comment on your post directly on WordPress Reader anymore. Self-hosting definitely has more advantage. I wanted to transfer my blog on WordPress.com too but then again, I won’t be able to use my own layout plus their service are pretty expensive.

    • Aw. Sorry, girl. For at least a year, it should be forwarded to this new address, but I guess that’s not happening quite as well. I’ll have to investigate. Thanks for the heads up!

  • bahaha you and your book buying addiction. At least you tried 🙂 And congrats on being self-hosted! Can’t wait for the bedazzle 😉

  • Yay! The sight looks awesome, and I hope you enjoy all those great book blogger plugins!I see you got Alias Hook in your haul and I loved it, so I can’t wait to see what you think. I’m going to probably break down and buy Forbidden (loved the Red Tent) and Blue Lily, Lily Blue and I hope you enjoy those as well. 🙂

    • Thank you! I hope I’ll enjoy them, too.

  • Glad you’ve got yourself transitioned – sorry it didn’t go completely smoothly, but at least it’s done!

Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction

    • Yes, I’m glad I’ve finally plunged in. 🙂

  • Awww it will be great to meet your hubby Joy, that sounds so cute! I absolutely LOVE your new blogging layout, didn’t think it could get better than before. Welcome to the self hosted world, you will never look back now!

  • Yay! Congrats with this new blogging milestone. 🙂 I’m excited to see this new segment with your husband. I’m sure it’ll be a blast. 😀

    • 🙂 Thanks, Joy. Still working on getting his picture taken.

  • Why are your pictures always so pretty?? I’m crying at my sad, sad pictures. 🙂

Aw, I wanted Sweet Tooth to be good! I adore Atonement, so I’m needing to try another Ian McEwan book. Ooh, I liked Alias Hook, and the cover is so cool.

I hope you have a wonderful week, Joy!

    • Heh. Thanks, Rachel. 🙂 I bought his new one The Children Act so I’m hoping that it would be a better stint for me than Sweet Tooth.

  • Congrats on self hosting Joy! I love your purchases, they look stunning!

  • Congrats on self-hosting! I worry about Blogger so I should keep Carmel’s services in mind. I had to get a physical copy of Blue Lily, Lily Blue, too! I still haven’t read it but I listened to The Dream Thieves on audio (I read it last year) and strangely I didn’t like it as much. Ronan’s chapters were boring for me and they took up a good portion of the book. I set the speed to 1.5x after a while whenever it would switch back to him. Enjoy you books! Can’t wait to read your interview with the hubby! 🙂

    • Thanks, hun. Yeah. I figured, I’m already blogging through WordPress, why not go for broke and do a self hosted site? Carmel is pretty awesome!

  • Laughing at your Darkest Minds sum-up. I think I have vague memories of reading it and being so very unimpressed. Also, I’m excited for this celebrity interview in the works!

    • Ha! Celebrity interview. He’d love that one. 🙂 Thanks, Ellen.

  • Yep, Carmel is fab! 🙂 And congrats on self-hosting (that’s my fondest wish) because I’m so scared that one day Blogger just packs up and I lose everything… huggles and enjoy all your reads, J. Well done on nearly finishing your winter reads.

  • I enjoyed Burying Water and hope that you do too. Have a great week.

  • I loved Blue Lily, Lily Blue and am thrilled to hear that you’re enjoying Bracken’s series–I really want to read that one and since the final book has released, I really have no excuse. Wonderful haul and happy reading, Joy! 🙂

  • Congrats on getting Carmel’s help to be self hosted! You are going to have so much fun tweaking your stuff now and the freedom of self hosted is amazing instead of all the free sites restrictions etc.

How can you be done with your winter TBR almost already!? Technically aren’t we still in autumn? Lol

  • Not buying book or requesting them never goes well for me either. 😉
Congrats on all the new books!!

    • Thanks, Ali. I’m actually having buyer’s remorse now. I’m not having second thoughts about the books I bought (except maybe for In the After light), but I just wish I can curb it. :/

  • Thanks for the shout-out Joy, I appreciate it, and I’m so happy that you’re thrilled with the outcome. At least you won’t have as big of a learning curve as those who’ve switched from Blogger. I just finished listening to The Dream Thieves a couple of weeks ago, and hope to tackle Blue Lily, Lily Blue before the end of the year. Alias Hook is another one that I’ve been meaning to read. Enjoy!

    • You’re welcome! It really looks awesome in here. And I don’t have to worry about running a widget that’s not java script supported. 🙂 You are totes awesome.

I snagged Dream Thieves for cheap on audible a while back, so I might just go down that route. 🙂

  • Awesome haul of books. Going to self-hosted WordPress is a good thing because now you control things the way you want to. I use my IPHONE to take pictures.

    Grace @ Books of Love

    • Thanks, Grace. I used to take pictures with my iPhone as well, but ever since discovering how great the books look with an actual camera, I don’t think I can ever go back.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  • I hauled YOU by Caroline Kepnes recently too! When I seen that it was about obsession I knew I had to pick it up. Congratulations on becoming self-hosted! Hopefully around this time next year, I’ll be ready to make that big step. Also, what camera are you using missy?!! I take pictures on my blog of physical copies when I review them, and my image quality is nothing compared to yours! I have crappy lighting so that could be a reason to lol.

    • Tika! It’s all about the lighting, and the white background helps a lot! I use a Nikon D3100, but I take my pictures with all the windows open to let in natural light. Artificial lighting makes everything appear jaundiced. 🙂

  • You have some fantastic sounding books in your haul this week. I’m curious to see what you think about Alias Hook. I’ve heard some great things about it. I also need to get a start on The Raven Boys series. I love those covers so much!
Happy reading and yay for finally being able to become self-hosted! 🙂

    • Me too! I haven’t read The Raven Boys. So much love for this series that I’m intimidated. 🙂

      thanks for stopping by, Nick!

  • I’ve been so curious about Kepnes but held off, I don’t really need more books, LOL. So Darkest Minds tanked? NO wonder it went FREE for a few days.

    • Ha. Me either, but when did that ever stop me? Lol.

  • Oh many new books for you! I’m curious to read the reviews about the ones you enjoyed. Happy reading!

  • Yay for getting the blog sorted out 😀 That is awesome Joy. <3 (It do look all kinds of stunning. <3) And yay for so many awesome books, lol 😀 Blue Lily, Lily Blue is just all kinds of stunning. I adore it. I hope you will love everything you got this week sweetie 🙂 Happy reading. <3

    • Thanks, C. I have to figure out why your comments seem to disappear on me. 🙁 I mean I don’t get your notifications…

      • WHAT. How mean. I’m not sure why that is 🙁

  • HOORAY for self hosting! I haven’t made the plunge yet, still with Blogger actually. WordPress scares me quite frankly. Oh no, you didn’t enjoy The Darkest Minds? I love that series, but then again I’ve got an obsession with dystopian and seem to enjoy them all on some level. I see Blue Lily in there too. I still haven’t even started that series, but added it to my summer reading pile. So many pretty hardcovers <3 I've got a serious case of googly love heart eye.

Thanks for sharing Joy and so glad you're back! <3
