Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 125

We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas | The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters | The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters

How have your week been? This week was a sad week for us, Canadians. What happened in our nation’s capital is virtually unheard of. My heart goes out to the family of our fallen soldier. Tragic, tragic loss. It just goes to show that no matter how gun laws are regulated, there will always be another factor why such a senseless violence occurs.

On the blog front, I’m happy to say that things have gone back to normal. I’m hoping that I can keep at this for a longer time than my usual blog breaks. As you can tell, I didn’t really buy too many books this week. Just three: a couple of adult titles, and one YA. I’m also slowly, but surely working my way through my review pile (I really suck at this). I don’t have much left to read and review, so that’s great. I’ve been able to visit blogs this week as well, which is great. I really hate falling behind on comments.

Read anything good lately?

Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life was a daunting read but I enjoyed it, nonetheless. The Midnight Rose by Lucinda Riley was epic. I absolutely loved it! Both books were at least 500 pages, hence the reason why I only managed to read two.

How was your week?

  • Hugs. <3 The news are all kinds of depressing 🙁 But yay for bunch of beautiful books. <3 I have only read one of them, The Cure for Dreaming, but I loved it so so much 😀 It's so good! Hope you love it too sweetie 🙂 Happy reading. <3

  • ohmy, you have The Cure for Dreaming!! I really want to getmy hands on it asap but I haven’t really got the time to get out and visit a bookstore lately @_@ Hope you’ll love it. Happy Reading, Joy! 🙂

  • Christy

Yeah, that really was sad. It was interesting, because I found myself a bit shocked at it. But then when the shooting that just occurred in Washington, I wasn’t all that surprised. I realized how effed up that was. Anyway, enjoy your books, Joy.

  • I can’t wait to see what you think of The Cure for Dreaming. That cover is just amazing and I’ve heard great things about the book!

Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction

    • Thanks, Nicole. I feel the same way. It’s hard to ignore the almost popular opinion!

  • We are not Ourselves sounds great, hope you enjoy and have a great week.

    • Thanks, Brandi. Looking forward to reading it, as a matter of fact. 🙂

  • I’m glad you hear you’re getting things done! I need to read more and get more commenting done, really. Hopefully that can be worked on. 🙂 Isn’t The Cure for Dreaming gorgeous?? I wasn’t going to buy it as soon as I did, but it was too darn pretty to resist. 🙂

I hope you have a good week!

  • You got The Cure For Dreaming! I’ve been wanting to get my hands on that. Enjoy! Here’s My STS

  • I really need to read something by Sarah Waters soon, I have heard great things, if you have any recommendations of where I can begin let me know. Also the only book I read by Atkinson I loved, so I know I need to give her other books a go too. I hope you have a wonderful week Joy! 🙂

    • Thanks, Jas! This is my first Waters, and I’m enjoying it so far. I’m about halfway, and if you’re a fan of era, I think you’ll enjoy it as well. I don’t know. The last three books I’ve read seems to be historical war time England. It’s been educational to say the least. 🙂

  • That’s great that your blogging schedule is relatively back to normal! I’ve been having a bit of a break from the blog, still post regularly but the rest of the stuff has taken a back seat. It’s been refreshing and I’m not trying to rush each read too. The Cure for Dreaming looks really interesting, have a lovely week ahead Joy!

    • Breaks are always good. Give you time to make a dent on your TBR. 🙂 Enjoy, Jeann!

  • I want to read We ARe Not Ourselves! I got it from the library. But it was a hold list and it was long and I was afraid I wouldn’t finish it in time so ended up not reading it. It seemed like the kind of book I would want my own copy of (which really is like every book I read haha). So I will definitely be interested to read your thoughts on it since it may be a bit before I get a chance to buy and read it! Love the cover on Cure For Dreaming one! That cover would grab my attention even though I know nothing about the book! Enoy!

    • Someone just told me how much they’ve enjoyed it. So I’m looking forward to reading it as well. 🙂

  • I’ve seen Life After Life and The Cure For Dreaming around a lot! I think I’ll get them soon!

  • I was devastated when I woke up to that news. My thoughts go out to the Canadian soldier, his family and his por dogs.

The Cure for Dreaming looks really creepy, and perfect as a Halloween read! Enjoy all your new books Joy, and yay for making a good dent into your TBR 🙂

    • That’s what I keep hearing from everyone. I hope I’ll enjoy it, too. 🙂

  • I didn’t hear what happened in your capitol but I’m guessing it was a shooting. I’ll have to find out. At any rate sorry to hear there was a soldier who died.

I’ve heard great things about The Cure for Dreaming so I hope you enjoy it, too, Joy. 🙂

  • The Cure for Dreaming has such a mesmerizing cover to me. Every time I see it I have to stop and stare… and I really don’t know why. LOL! I hope you enjoy your new goodies!

  • I saw it in the news, I’m sorry for your country’s loss. Only shows that nobody is safe from these crazy mofos.

Great hoard this week, love the photos as always!

  • It was truly a tragic lost 🙁

I miss your blog Joy! Sorry, I haven’t been online lately. I’m hoping it will get better for me come wintertime though! I’ve not read any new books lately, in fact…I’ve been re-reading Harlequin Present romances since it’s now available on Scribd. LOL, I actually signed up with the service just for that!

    Have a great weekend!

  • It is tragic whenever someone is loss by tragedy. 🙁 My heart goes out to his friends and family.

Congrats on the books and it is so good to see you back!! I have missed coming here and seeing you around. 🙂

  • This week has been very interesting and different. I hope you love all your new books indeed.

    Grace @ Books of Love

    • Thanks, Grace! And thanks for stopping by!

  • I finished The Cure for Dreaming this week and really enjoyed it! I hope you do as well. Enjoy your weekend!

    • Thanks, Christina. Enjoy the rest of the weekend to you, as well. 🙂

  • I heard great things about the cure for dreaming and I confess that I’m really curious about it. Happy reading!

    • Thanks, Melliane. I hope it’ll be as good as everyone says!
