Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix • Visions by Kelley Armstrong • Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld • Sway by Kat Spears • One Past Midnight by Jessica Shirvington

Hello.

We are just having the warmest Indian Summer I’ve ever experienced since moving to Canada 19 years ago! I’m weirded out because the heat doesn’t compute with the colours of fall. Seeing people in shorts in September is just…wrong. Not that I’m complaining, mind you. I’m just. I guess all these talks about global warming is getting to me.

Once again, my staying away from bookstore did not happen this past week. Even though I only got five books, it’s still five books too many. I suck.

This week, I read…

 Wanted:

Blog designer and host. Anyone interested? Please email me joyousreads at gmail dot com.

  • It’s hot here too, and I want beautiful, sunny, crisp fall weather. If we go straight from summer to winter, I’ll cry. I’ll Give You the Sun was such a fantastic book. I feel like I need to read it again!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics

  • I hope you enjoy Gameboard of the Gods. It’s a little complicated but I really liked it. 🙂

  • Visions looks good, hope you enjoy and have a great week.

  • I’m on a semi-book ban, but I just had to pick up Afterworlds today – it’s gorgeous! But SO heavy! lol!
I’ll Give You the Sun is stunning! I hope to get that one… sometime… in the future… lol!

Enjoy your warm weather, and happy reading 🙂 xo

  • I’m curious about the Armstrong series, I heard great things about it. I liked the Mead one too. We also have weird temperatures here, it changes everyday… happy reading!

  • Yay for Indian summer, J.! Don’t worry you’ll get back to your usual temperature soon enough :))) Horrorstor should mbe interesting, I’ve heard encouraging things about it :))

  • hehe, you’re having a hot Indian Summer and you got a book called “I’ll GIve You the Sun” I see what you did there ^_^ Hope you enjoy it while it lasts. I didn’t enjoy Gameboard of the Gods either unfortunately.

  • Oh, you got Horrorstör! And how was I’ll Give You the Sun? I’m quite curious of that one.

Want to hear something crazy? It has been about 2 years since I’ve been in a real bookstore. We only have a used one here now, and I don’t count Costco or Walmart. 😐 You should just come down here for hoarding detox. 😀

  • I think I would have a hard time resisting some of these books if I saw them in a bookstore Joy, and 5 books isn’t bad at all!! I’ve been reading some praising reviews this week for Afterworlds, I honestly thought this book wouldn’t be for me, but now I’m quite curious. Also I can’t wait to see how you get on with Sway. Happy reading lovely! 🙂

  • Alise (Readers in Wonderland)

It’s been really hot over here as well! I’m really excited for Visions and Afterworlds, I’ve heard pretty good things about them. Hope you enjoy your new reads!

  • It’s all steps in progress! Can’t go cold turkey! 🙂 Too funny about your weather, because here in the deep South our weather is being kind of amazing. Every morning it’s in the sixties, and gets up to the low to mid eighties with very little humidity. It’s fabulous, though I’m read for some of our winter weather. (Which isn’t real winter, but cold enough to wear jackets at least.) I hope you have a wonderful week!!

  • I was going to say that I don’t have any of these books. But I’m pretty sure I own an ARC of the UK version of One Past Midnight 🙂 Different names. Hmph. ANYWAY. Lots of gorgeous 😀 I hope you love everything Joy. <3 I haven't read any of these, but they all look awesome 🙂 Happy reading sweetie. <3

  • *like

  • I didn’t know that you’re living in Canada!! Me too 🙂 and, yeah, I actually put on the air conditioning and my mom was all love ”Oh come on, you’re kidding me, right?!” No, mom, I’m not kidding you.

  • I enjoyed Visions but also had relatively mixed feelings about it. I’m curious to see what you make of Afterworlds, though. It’s been awhile since I read a Westerfeld book–though I’ve really enjoyed the majority of his backlog–but I have been hearing mixed reviews concerning his latest and it’s huuge so I’m not certain yet I want to dive in but I’m hoping you LOVE it! 🙂

  • Amazing haul indeed of books this week. I hope you love all your new goodies.

  • Oooo looking for a new blog design? That’s awesome! I can’t wait to see what the blog looks like in the future! And there is no way one can stay away from the bookstore. I can’t wait to see what you think of Afterworlds. I haven’t read it yet, but I love the cover of it!

  • Congrats on the books! We are having an Indian Summer and I am seriously loving it! Although next week it is suppose to drop in temp but at least we have had some amazing weather for all of September.

  • nope, you can NEVER stay away from the bookstore~~
awesome haul.. I just saw Horrorstor today and I’m already interested :3 and I’ve been seeing Afterworlds today a lot.. I hope I can get my hands on it soon (~ ・ω・)~
Hope you’ll enjoy your new books! 😀
