[mis]Adventures in New York City

08076-17220307351Hello there! So, as many of you know, I’m New York bound tomorrow. There’s this book thing; I don’t know if you’ve heard of it. Book Expo America? Does that ring a bell? Apparently, it’s a big to-do in the book blogging community. Meh.

Yeah, so. New York City. Big place, lots of people. What is there to do?

Well, I know our first order of business when we get there is to find the nearest bookstore! Because, guess what? City of freaking Heavenly Fire is out that day! I’m dying. Dying.

Anyway, this is only my third time travelling without the family so I’m still kind of anxious. No worries, though, as I’m going with three of my cousins. Good times, good times.

We spent Friday night planning their days, and my nights since I’m probably only going to be with them after five.

10390460_10152062872166428_1891798587813331925_n To be honest, all I want to do is do a bookstore tour of New York City, which would also include the libraries. Is that weird? You know, I’m already going to be surrounded by books from 9 to 5, then go find some more books after?

The one that I want to see the most is The New York Public Library, and a couple of independent bookstores. I also want to see MoMA and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Do I sound pretentious? I don’t mean to be. I just really would like to see the exhibits. It’s not everyday that I am able to get civilized in my neck of the woods so, these opportunities need to be taken advantage of.

Anyway, I got invited to a Random House Publishing shindig! I’m so freaking excited! I flailed like a fish out of water when I got the e-vite. Seriously, so stoked! I’m going to meet up with an author friend, Anne Eliot, along with some bloggers that I’ve been friends with. I really hope I won’t embarrass myself too much. 🙂

I think I’ll sign off for now. I sprained my ankle a couple of days ago [fml]. I’m icing them right now; I hope the swelling goes down by the time I wake up tomorrow.

  • What you went to BEA and we didn’t meet up!? How could this have happened!!?

  • Aw, yay 😀 I really hope you have such an amazing time in New York, Joy. <3 And that you will find all the book stores 😀 And ack. Yeah. SO MANY BOOKS. There will be so many books at BEA and my jealousy is killing me, lol. But I hope you are having the best time 🙂 And I hope your ankle is feeling better. <3

  • Christy

Pretentious? Hell no. I’d hit those places up too. And then some seedy bars. lol

  • None of us fellow book nerds are going to judge you for doing a bookstore tour of NYC. That sounds perfect to me 🙂 Congrats on the RH invite and SEE YOU AT BEA 🙂

  • Oh my gosh, have the best time Joy! I wish I went to some bookstores when I was in New York! I did see the outside of New York Public Library though, that was pretty awesome. Can’t wait to hear your travel adventures!

  • Sabrinamk

So excited for you! Can’t wait to hear all about the bookish corners of NYC you encounter. Have a fabulous time!

  • I am quite jealous! Enjoy your NY adventures, and takes lots of photos 😀

  • I hope you have an AMAZING time. I was hoping this would be the year I would go, but maybe next year. I went to NYC for the first time last December and LOVED the MET. I hope you do, too. That’s not pretentious at all. I hope your ankles felt better today. Safe travels!

  • I wish I could go to BEA! Take me with you? And I totally get the feeling of wanting to be surrounded by books 24/7. 😉 I hope your ankle’s okay, Joy. Have fun!

  • Joy! Have lots of fun in NYC and at BEA. I really hope we get to meet during BookCon! I’m driving up Friday evening after work (wishing I could’ve just come for the whole week, but have to work)… anyhow I hope you enjoy! Find lots of fab books, meet lots of great people and just have the best time.

  • I hope you have a good time at BEA, Joy! And nope, it’s definitely weird that you want to visit more book related places. 😀 I would totally do that as well!
Enjoy your trip and hopefully, your ankle will be better before you leave.

  • Excitement!!! Gosh, I know you’re going to have such a good time, and I’m mighty jealous. 🙂 I don’t think any one of us could blame you for wanting to do a bookstore tour of New York! I’d definitely get to NYPL–it looks beautiful!

I hope your ankle feeling better in the morning!!

  • Joy that is a pretty neat schedule! Of course I would want to visit all the bookish places, after I’m done with BEA, I would love to visit the Strand Bookstore. I know that you will have a fab time, I hope your ankle gets better in time, and I can’t wait to see a recap post (hopefully) when you’re back!

  • Have fun in New York! That sounds like it’s going to be so much fun. I think that’s such a cool idea to tour all the libraries as well as the bookstores. I hope I’ll be able to visit New York one day myself, lol. I’d love to see a recap of what you end up doing in New York and at BEA 🙂

  • Oh man, I so wish I were coming. Have a great time and take care of that ankle

  • I can’t wait to see you, Joy!

  • Even though you will be at BEA I so would go check out all the bookstores and libraries, I mean you are in New York, go for it!

  • Faye M.

I am so excited for you, Joy. I wish I were going to BEA myself… it would be such a blast to meet you and the others, as well as authors and the publishing staff. It’s for this reason I would love to live in the US <3 Please post more pictures when you get there, and a recap of that RH party!

  • Ahh I totally want to visit the New York Public Library .-.

But I hope you have loads of fun at BEA! 😀

Have a wonderful time Joy! 🙂

  • The New York Public Library is GREAT–so is the Met Museum-2 of my fav places!! I live just outside NYC but won’t be heading to the Javitts center unfortunately! Make sure to go to Central Park and Times Square just for the heck of it–You can sit on a bench in Central Park and read a couple of chapters!

  • Awww I wish I could go and have a chance to go to BEA (but I live in the other side of the world D: ) I hope you enjoy New York! There are plenty of things to see there, I heard they have the most amazing pizzas and burgers 😀
