I don’t usually do these type of things, but I couldn’t possibly say no to Amir of The Not-So-Literary Heiresses. So without further ado, here are some honest answers to some burning questions.

What are your top 3 book pet peeves?

•  LOVE TRIANGLES • The most ridiculous romantic arch ever. It’s not love when you find yourself thinking of another person, while you’re WITH another person. Okay? Bitch please.

•  ASSHOLES AND DICKS  • So tired of this. Why would you want to be with someone treats you like the dirt at the bottom of a scum’s shoe? You know what else I hate? When you claim he’s treating you that way for your own good, for your own protection. Bitch please.

• NOPE, YEP, POPPING THE ‘P’, LETTING OUT THE BREATH YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE HOLDING. Writing out sound effects. Brrrrrrringgggg. • As if the readers don’t know what a ringing telephone sounds like. Bitch please.

Only three? Are you sure? Because I can go on and on and on…

Describe your perfect reading spot.

I can read anywhere and everywhere, but this one at the cabin is my favourite spot.

  Tell us three book confessions.

• My Kindle is full of smutty books. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

• I once flew to Vancouver for a day to get my books signed by Kelley Armstrong, Margaret Stohl and company. Like I got there at 11 am, went straight to the bookstore, saw the authors, flew back the same day.

• And this:

IMG_6250

There’s like, two-container full of these books in my basement. Yep. I have an obsessive personality. So when I like an author, I go nuts.

When was the last time you cried over a book?

IMG_6252

IMG_6251

This was me a couple of days ago. When I got declined to read Prototype by M.D. Waters on Edelweiss. I cried. Seriously, cried.

How many books are on your bedside table?

IMG_6249

I swear there’s a table underneath all those books. Or maybe, my books are holding up that table…

What is favourite snack whilst reading a book?

I don’t usually snack; I drink iced coffee. I’m addicted to McDonald’s Iced Caramel Coffee. 🙂

Name three books you would recommend to everyone.

• On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta •

• Me Before You by Jojo Moyes •

• Archetype by M.D. Waters •

Show us a picture of your favourite shelf in your bookshelf.

This is my FAVOURITES shelf, with my favourite non-bookish accessory (my son). In here, you will find my Black Dagger Brotherhood hardback collection, multiple and signed copies of Melina Marchetta’s books, Mortal Instruments hardcopies all of which were signed by Cassandra Clare. Sorry if you can’t see most of the books. That pesky non-bookish accessory is blocking the view. Lol.

Write how much books mean to you in three words:

Like breathing air.

What is your biggest reading secret?

I fear…oblivion. I fear it like the proverbial blind man who’s afraid of the dark.

Kidding. 🙂

I don’t read enough books that’s supposed  to enrich my life. I will never live long enough to read all my books, and one day, when my family’s had had enough, they will leave me. Then years later, they will find me buried underneath all the piles of Young Adult books that I never got to read. I guess it’s more of a fear than a secret.

I secretly love my Kindle, but will never admit it to anyone. Well, I guess, now I did.

Thanks, Amir for the fun tag! Now you know my deepest, darkest secrets. 😉

  • OMG your reading spot is perfect!! And then I saw your bookshelf and I think if I were you, I would turn it into a bedroom..
Me Before You is very popular here, even the translated edition has been printed several times, I think I need to get it.

  • OMG Joy. Your answers are the BEST EVER. Your pet peeves and bedside table of books and secret (and fear of oblivion). I died. Bitch please hahaa.

  • This is so unfair. You have the perfect reading spot and bookshelf that is to die for! I LOVE YOUR BOOKSHELF and a signed copy of Melina Marchetta’s books, I love her Lumatere Chronicles. One of my favorite fantasy series.

I also download smutty books in my Kindle, less obvious and most of them are free. LOL.

I wish I could also go where there are book signings of my favorite authors. Unfortunately, I only get an author signature when they visit our country.

  • “Writing out sound effects.” I hate that too. In audiobooks especially.

” My Kindle is full of smutty books.” LOL, my Kindle is quite an Adult too 😉

Ahh, so sorry to hear you didn’t get Prototype 🙁 EW is CRUEL.

    SO.MANY.BOOKS!!!

    iced coffee – <3

    Awesome post!!

  • Love the bedside table. Makes me feel better about my own 😛 Absolutely didn’t knock over a pile whilst trying to turn the alarm off this morning! And if Canada wasn’t so far away from Australia – I would fly to get Kelley Armstrong’s signature. I have all the Women of the Otherworld series and a few of her YA series too!

  • Oh, wow, Joy…I have questions! That container of books looks like at least some of them are duplicates. Is that true? If so, what’s the purpose of the extra copies? And the nightstand with the book explosion…how did this happen? Did the books on the bottom not get fully read and got cast aside in favor of the books near the top? Poor things! But maybe their presence there means they have a shot at getting read before they get returned to bookshelf.

    • Lol! I think they’re a series? Are you talking about Barbary Wharf? If so, then yes, that’s a series and certainly not duplicates.

Book explosion? What book explosion? 🙂 Those are books I’ve started and didn’t finish, though I haven’t given up on them just yet. So from time to time, I go back and try to read them.

  • This is an AWESOME post Joy. I love it so much! <3 (But also, please forgive me for not doing the same. <3 I love that you tagged me, hih, but there is just so many questions that I have no answer for :p)

Pet peeves. LOVE TRIANGLES. Agh. Yesss. They are awful. And make no sense. And I wish they would die out. Ugh. Not for me either, lol 🙂 Assholes. Yes. I don't like those either. Sigh.

Confessions. I am jealous. Wishing I could fly out and meet authors 😀 But ohh. I also have a confession like that. When I was in Orlando, Florida almost two years ago some of my favorites authors were there too. I payed TONS of dollars to see them at this Harry Potter meet up. And I payed A LOT. And I didn't even stay for any of the Harry Potter events.. (Might be because it was waaay too far away from my hotel, and I was there with my mom. <3 Our first and only trip to America.) But anyway. Point is. Way too expensive :p So much money went away for me getting some signed books, lol. But I don't regret it. Also! Reading spot. I love 🙂

I don't even have a bedside table.. *Is jealous, lol* 🙂 But holy. So many books! I love 😀

I don't like eating while reading :p I can't. My books are my precious; I can't risk them getting damaged, lol. Ack. Coffee. I don't like coffee, lol ;p

On the Jellicoe Road. <3 MY LOVE. I need to re-read it. HAS BEEN A WHOLE YEAR. Whaaat. Too long, lol 🙂

I loved reading all of this about you Joy. <3 You are the best. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂

  • Awww, this was such a fun post! Here are my remarks:

    * I agree; no to love triangles (Well, most of them; some do it right, like Cynthia Hand’s Unearthly), and douchebag love interests. I don’t get the fascination over them, either. In real life, they’re hardly the type of guys women usually fall for!

    * I love, love, love your reading space. It looks so picturesque and so cozy and comfortable. I’d love to spend the whole afternoon there! 🙂 That table of books look awesome, too. <3 <3

Overall great post! I love learning more about my bloggy friends! 😀

  • I loved getting to know that bit more in this post Joy! I’m so sorry that you got rejected for Prototype I know how much you wanted to read that book, I hope the wait won’t be too long, before you can purchase a copy? Also how awesome is your favourite bookshelf? I would totally be lying there reading like your son too, he looks so comfortable!

    • I was heart broken, Jas. But I totally humiliated myself today and begged MD WATERS to get Dutton to reconsider. So guess what? She’s sending me a copy!!!

  • Christy

Omg, Joy, I want that globe! Hahaha … yep, I like to pop my Ps. lol. Now I know to do it a lot more with you. 😛

    • Oh boy. Remind me not to talk to you in person. ;p

  • Alise (Readers in Wonderland)

” As if the readers don’t know what a ringing telephone sounds like. Bitch please.” LMAO. Your peeves are my peeves, and it’s a same that they are probably the most common ones in YA -_- Where is all the diversity? Awesome pictures 🙂

    • Right? Also, ones that tells us someone’s knocking on the door by italicizing “knock, knock”. Come on!

  • Ok first off – love your son lounging on the shelf that is big enough to HOLD HIM – WTH YES I Want one!~ I hope my kid grows up to want to lounge reading.

And also – that is pretty insane how many cases in your basement of books like that…that is borderline freaky. I dig freaky – we can hang.

My entire office and bedside also looks like yours and throw in my library cause yeah I have the upstairs living room totally devoted to being my library, one couch, one circle swivel seat and one hanging cage chair.

  • I don´t like to do tags because I´m lazy……but I LOVED your post and my favorite was the picture of your son! he´s just so adorable.
And about your book recommendations… I LOOOVED On Jellicoe Road!
    bye 🙂

    • I don’t like them either, but I thought this was fun. And Amir has been so nice, so how could I say no? 🙂

      WHELP. Jonah Griggs, FTW.

  • We are indeed book soulmates! I was obsessed with Charlotte Lamb books, I used to hunt used bookstores for them! I’ve only read a couple Helen Bianchin, I’ll check her books out too 🙂

And love those pictures, I am so jealous of your bookcase!

    • OMG. How awesome are her stories?! I swear, someone should re-write her books into full-length novels!

  • Love this post! So much fun! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  • OHMIGHAD LOOK AT THAT. YOU LOVE ME BEFORE YOU TOO.
OH LOOK THAT SHELF. OHMIGHAD I’M IN LOVE.

Sorry, I’m just so happy! I totally love Me Before You, made me bawl my eyes out. I love your shelf and your non-bookish accessory looks so adorable 😀

    • Right? ME BEFORE YOU slays. The feels. OMG. Thanks for visiting! <3

  • Omg! Those pics are gorgeous. I’m jealous of that reading space!!! And this is by far my favorite post@ 😀 So much fun, and seriously “letting out the breath you didn’t know you were holding” – on my list as well, or the “chill that ran through your body in 100F degree weather” – yup, I can go on and on too. 😉

    • Ugh. Yes, most definitely that one too. 🙂 I can’t wait to read your post.

  • Yay! thank you for tagging me! This is so much fun! I feel so sad that you got denied for Prototype by M.D. Waters 🙁 I wanna go and yell at them because you wanted it so bad! C’mon gods of Edelweiss! Joy deserves that early read *looks at the sky with tears in her eyes* GAH! I feel your pain! :(((((( BTW I’m reading Archetype next! I’m so excited! This is a weird comment. I’m sad and happy and angry. You see what you do to me!

    • Oh yay! I really, really hope you’ll like it too. It’s like my favourite this year. And thanks for the sympathy. I knew you would understand. 🙂 I can’t wait to read your post, Beth. <3

  • I love your shelf and favorite reading spot! My night stand would like like yours if it weren’t for my kindle. 😉

Isn’t funny how even after all this time, it still really sucks and hurts to be declined for a book you requested? I even get upset if I wasn’t totally into the book. I doubt that feeling will ever go away.

    • I know right? This one is especially painful since I want this so bad. 🙁

  • I am absolutely obsessed with your bookshelf. How cool! I also love your reading spot at your cabin. It’s perfect. 🙂 I would love to spend the day there!

    • Thanks, Christina. There’s really no other place I’d rather be, but work and mortgage payments continue to kill the fun out of everything. Lol. Thanks for stopping by!
