It’s been a pathetic week, to be honest. So far, work is a foe that I’ve yet to conquer. I also managed to contact some sort of a communicable disease, much to my chagrin. You think missing time from work would’ve helped me tremendously in the reading front, but that’s not the case, sadly. I barely managed to function as it was, so reading was definitely out of the question.

ONE MAN GUY by Michael Barakiva

This book is the bees’ knees! I originally gave it a four star rating but the more I sit here and think about it, I think it deserves so much more. I absolutely love this story of a couple of kids who found friendship in each other that quickly escalated into a relationship. It’s sweet, funny, and just…Michael Barakiva knows exactly how to convey what it’s like for two young, gay kids to navigate life without much drama. I adore this book!

OPEN ROAD SUMMER by Emery Lord16081202

I finished this book in a few hours. It’s so…I just want to hug the living sh*t out of it. Road trip, a boy with a guitar, a girl on reform, and basically, Taylor Swift if Taylor Swift had a childhood sweetheart that she can’t get over. It’s lovely. Sigh.

This was not as great as I thought it would be. The lady at my bookstore told me that if I liked The Fault in Our Stars, I would love this. Sadly, I didn’t. Surprising, considering it’s written by an Aussie. I always thought they have contemporary down to Science.

May is upon us. You know what this means, right? BEA at the end of the month! Do you know how much I’m looking forward to this?!

  • Great haul! I´ve read and LOVED The Forever Song, and liked Love letters to the dead, lokking forward to your reviews about this books. And fron the rest of your books I want to read Better of Friends and Open Road Summer.
    Enjoy your books.

  • You need to read Stolen Songbird ASAP, Joy! And I think you’ve done really well on the reading front, my dear! 🙂 Enjoy all! *huge hugs*

  • “This book is the bees’ knees!” <3 this line. Happy reading!

    • Thanks, Cayce. It was so so wonderful. I hope you’ll get to read it soon. 🙂

  • Oh yay that you loved One Man Guy too! I preordered a bunch of these, I just haven’t got them yet. What I Thought was True, Prisoner of Night and Fog and The Forever Song should all be on their way to me. Enjoy your books!

    • Thanks, Candace. I hope you’ve gotten your copies now. Lol. Such a delayed reply.

  • I’ve been wanting to read One Man Guy – it just looks too darn cute! Rating is such a funny thing – I sometimes find that too, where I rate a book one way and then more time goes on and you find yourself re-evaluating, either up or down. I actually keep meaning to write a post about that, asking how soon people usually review their books after they read them. I feel like the time between when I read and review makes a difference in my rating, which seems somewhat unfair, but I don’t know how to fix that really (without setting some sort of limit on how soon I review – which isn’t always particularly practical).

    • You should definitely read One Man Guy soon. It’s so freaking wonderful.

I find that I can’t judge my own well, judgement soon after reading a book. Sometimes, I need to step back and give it a day or two before a review comes clear to me.

      Thanks, Nicole!

  • Work is my main drag as well.

Also I love that you said you wanted to hug open road summer. That is a great way to put the nice warm smilies that book makes you feel.

I am super jealous you get to go to BEA! I hope you have a blast!!

  • All of your books look so pretty together! Better Off Friends is such an adorable read and Love Letters to the Dead sounds really unique, too. Thank you so much for your sweet comment and I hope you enjoy all of your books, Joy! 🙂

  • While Beauty Slept sounds intruiging. Well, haven’t actually read the blurb but cover and title caught my attention!

I hope you’re feeling better now, Joy. I hate being sick…I’m a really bad sick person. So grumbly, whiny and phatetic 😉

    • While Beauty Slept is a take on Sleeping Beauty, I think. 😉 And I am feeling much better, thanks.

Sorry for the delayed response, Amir.

  • I can’t wait to see what you think of What I Thought Was True. Enjoy your books, Joy! Are you going to the BEA?!! If so, I’m so jealous! Have fun. 🙂
