Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 104

Good morning!

I hope you all had a great week, and is having a lovely weekend so far.

Last week on the blog was pretty quiet. I only managed to put up two reviews [ The Sound of Letting Go by Stasia Ward Kehoe , Notes from Ghost Town by Kate Ellisonand a Photo Vomit post where I featured some pretty cool Vintage Penguins

I started my new job, and moved to a new office so my week was pretty hectic. I also started going to the gym again, which pretty much shortens my reading time when I get home. I’m pretty bushed by the time I hit the hay.

Amidst all the chaos, I managed to submit my poems to the publisher! I was on tenterhooks as I waited for verdict whether or not he will include them in the collection of poems he was going to publish. The next morning, he sent me an email saying that he loved them all! I’m so excited! I know there are a number of us but I can’t wait to see my poems in print. He said the expected publication will be September of this year. I don’t know what kind of marketing the publisher has planned but I sure will annoy friends and family to buy a copy. Lol.

Okay, back to this post. I mostly bought Adult Fiction this week. There really wasn’t anything in YA that I was looking forward to reading. I also got one book for review from HBG Canada (much love!).

The Ring and the Crown by Melissa de la Cruz
Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop
Wake by Anna Hope
The Troop by Nick Cutter
Microserfs by Douglas Coupland
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott
Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens
The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
That’s my haul from last week, and thanks for reading!
Also, let’s pray for the victims/survivors(?) of the Malaysian flight that’s gone missing. So profoundly sad, and scary. :/
  • OMG, Joy! Congrats on getting published!! That is so freaking cool. Congrats on the new job front, too (I hope that's good news). I enjoyed The Winner's Circle and love the cover for The Ring and the Crown. Great haul this week!

  • A new job…a new workout…and your poems being published soon. What a week! Congrats, Joy!

As for the books, The Winner's Curse was amazing. The Troop (tons of gore) and Fire & Flood were both pretty good. I'm going to wait to see what people have to say about Ring and the Crown, because I didn't care for Melissa de la Cruz's last book, Frozen. Hope you enjoy!

  • Amazon keeps recommending I read Faking Normal. I”m going to have to look that one up! :o)

And congrats on the new job!! I would love to start going to the gym, but the nearest one around me is like 30 minutes away. I can barely find time as it is, not adding the commute.

  • Oh my gosh, congratulations on being published!! I see your stuff on Instagram all the time and it's really good, so of course he wanted to put you in the collection! 😀 That's so exciting!

Ooh, I'm so excited you got The Ring and the Crown and The Winner's Curse. They're both gorgeous, and The Winner's Curse was awesome. I haven't gotten to read the other yet. 🙂

Definitely keeping those on the plane on my mind and in my prayers, and I hope for the sake of their families they learn something certain soon.

  • I LOVED Faking Normal!!! it´s an amazing book with a heartbreking story; hope you enjoy it as well. Great haul.

  • **closure.

Oh man, that plane crash is terrible. I hope the families will be able to get some kind of closer.

  • Congrats on the new job and the poems – that's very exciting! 🙂 Nice book haul.

  • Loved Faking Normal and Fire and Flood and hope that you do too

  • My god, Joy, you are going to be a published poetess! Woohoo! And on a sober note, that missing plane is scary. I keep thinking of LOST.

  • Ah, pretty books 😀 I really enjoyed Faking Normal. <3 And The Winner's Curse! SO MUCH LOVE. I really hope you read it soon, so that I'll know how you feel about it as well, hih 🙂 I hope you enjoy them all Joy. <3 Happy reading 🙂

I love the cover to The Ring and the Crown and I absolutely adored Faking Normal and The Winner's Curse! I hope you enjoy all your pretties! 🙂

  • I really want to read Written in Red and Murder of Crows. I hear great things! Same with Faking Normal and Winner's Curse. I don't know if I'll pick up Winner's Curse because it's a trilogy and I'm trying to stay away from serial books until they're all released. I want to read them one right after the other. Great haul, Joy! 🙂

  • I thoroughly enjoyed Murder of Crows, Faking Normal, and The Winner's Curse – such gorgeous covers too! I also desperately need to begin an Atwood book soon! Happy Reading! 🙂

  • Really great haul. There's something about Hardcovers that attract me so much more than paperbacks. So nice to have your shelves 🙂

    Happy reading!

  • I'm on the fence about The Ring and the Crown! I've heard great things about it, but I wasn't a huge fan of her last book….. I may just give in and give it a try. I look forward to your review!

Goodness that flight thing is scary.! For a whole plane to go missing is truly terrifying! I will definitely be praying for them along with you!

  • We have a few similar books this week. 🙂

When I saw the news about the Malaysian flight that crashed, it broke my heart. 🙁 I really hope there are survivors. To the victims, I hope they find peace.

  • Ah Faking Normal. I loved that book so much. It's heartbreaking and the same time, hopeful. I really enjoyed The Winner's Curse in the end although I had some issues with it in the beginning. The romance was great though. I need to get to the Anne Bishop series. Everyone seems to love her books!
    Happy reading, Joy! 🙂

  • Great haul 🙂 I also got The Ring and The Crown too! I am so EXCITED for it, since all of Mel's books are amazing, hope we like it both! The Winner's Curse looks amazing, I'm on the lookout for your review on it.
