Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 97

Hello all.

My book haul post is coming late this week. There’s no excuse other than I haven’t been able to find the time to actually sit down and do some blogging.

So here I am, trying to keep up. I’m behind again but I’m really hoping that this week will be a different matter.

I’m typing this post on a Sunday morning watching some pre-game forecast for the NFL Playoffs. If you’re not aware (I’m sure most of you are), we are a huge San Diego Chargers fans. 2013 season has been pretty good for us. We actually made it to the playoffs. I hope that by the time this scheduled post goes live, I’ll be able to tell you we made it to the AFC Championship. I’m crossing my fingers and praying to the gods of football that we’re be able to beat Peyton Manning’s incredible arm. Today (Sunday) is the most stressful day in the entire history of football watching.

Anyway, I have read four out of the thirteen books in this pile. Monica Murphy’s New Adult series (all 3-star rating) and Well-Read Women by Samantha Hahn (4 Stars). They are all fast reads with one more substantial than the rest. I’m also in the middle of The Killing Woods and so far it’s pretty good. Here’s my haul:

Winter’s Tale by Mark Helprin | One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy |Β
Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy | Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy |
Labor Day by Joyce Maynard | The Promise of Amazing by Robin Constantine |
The Killing Woods by Lucy Christopher | Ashes to Ashes by Melissa C. Walker |
Broken by CJ Lyons | Shadows of Asphodel by Karen Kincy |
Well-Read Women by Samantha Hahn

UPDATE:

I’ve put an embargo on ESPN, NFL Network and whatever sports channels my husband watches until it doesn’t hurt anymore. Needless to say, we lost. I am a sad, sad, sad cookie. Someone hold me.

Anyway, GO CHARGERS!!!

(My husband, last fall – raising the flag shown below. This was at our cabin. )
  • Is that Winter's Tale the one they are or have made the movie of? It's hefty! I'd like to know what you think of it once you get around to it!

  • Wow, what an amazing book haul! Keen to hear what you thought of The Killing Woods, it was dark and weird. Hope you enjoy all of your reads!

  • I think they're all new to me, well despite the ones you already shared with us. Happy reading!

  • Aww, I thought of you when I was watching the Chargers game. Sorry, I wanted them to win too. Well, your pile still looks manageable, so that's good. πŸ˜‰ The books all look good too!

  • I already read The Promise of Amazing, and I did not realize it was that long! I loved seeing Ashes to Ashes there, Melissa Walker is always a hit with me. Wonderful haul! Enjoy your books.

  • I.. have not read any of these. But need to know how you feel about The Killing Woods πŸ˜€ So that I can see if I want that book or not, hih ;p Anyway. Lots of awesome books this week. I hope you will love them all sweetie. <3

  • This is like, a small haul by your standards! πŸ™‚ I'm excited about you reading Shadows of Asphodel, it's a surprisingly good book and it's, you know, dieselpunk. Who wouldn't want to read THAT?
    Anyway, happy reading!

  • Loved Monica Murphy's series (the first two books) and I really want to read The Killing Woods at some point. I've seen mixed reviews, though, so I guess we'll see. Have fun with your football. I'm completely ignorant of what goes on in that world. πŸ™‚

  • I know what a big football fan you are so I'm glad you've been enjoying the season so far. I really want to check out The Killing Woods. It sounds so good!

  • Great books! I loved and reviewed The Killing Woods! A really great thriller and super suspenseful you will like it a lot! If not love it!

    Happy Reading
