Back from the Dead

Hello!

I’m sorry to check out on you like that without an explanation. Frankly, I lost the will to do any kind of blogging and reviewing for the past three weeks – almost a month, actually. Aside from being unbelievably busy during the holiday season, I was preoccupied with poetry. I’ve written so much in the last month that even I couldn’t believe it.

But I’m back now, and things have started to mellow out. Even inspiration to write have slowed down (to my chagrin). The good thing about my hiatus was that Silent Noise Publishing actually noticed my poems and have asked me if I would be interested in submitting some for publication. As exciting and flattering as that is, I’m terrified. I mean, I know the book would be a collaborative effort amongst a whole slew of writers but I’ve never written anything that would be for a paying public consumption.

In any case, maybe I’m jumping the gun just a little bit here. My poems are subject for edits and approval and maybe, just maybe none of my entries would make it. Anyway, I have till May of this year to submit my entries. Wish me luck, y’all.

The last month has been hectic. The family took our annual winter trip to Orlando. To be honest, none of us had a great time. I was battling the remnants of a stubborn flu; my daughter got a stomach flu while we were down there and the whole trip was made memorable by expensive entrance fees to the parks, long lines at the rides, long distance walking everywhere and grid-locked traffic everywhere we went. Needless to say, we all agreed (even the kids) that Disney World or Disney Land is just not for us.

I’ve read quite a few books as well, but sadly, I didn’t meet my Goodreads reading goal for 2013. I was three books short of 150. Can you believe that? Sigh. This year, my goal is to read 150 books as well and so far, I’ve read two. I’m behind on Bloglovin’ so just bear with me. The last time I checked, I think I have almost 1,300 posts that needed to be read.

Anyway, I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and lots of books for Christmas. I will post my book haul for the month sometime this weekend. Thank you for sticking with me, and I’m looking forward to checking out your blogs. Also, I’ve noticed some new followers *waves* thanks a lot for checking me out. Please let me know which blogs are yours so I can follow back.

Here’s to a successful 2014, everyone!

Read more. Write more. Love more. Hate less.Β

  • What I have seen of your poems – you are extremely talented! Don't be scared to share them with more people. That recognition is well deserved!

So sorry to hear about your trip to Orlando. πŸ™ I hope your next family vacation is much much better!

Don't beat yourself up over 3 books. It does stink when you JUST miss something but 147 books is still pretty impressive!

    Welcome back!

  • I think a lot of people took December off. I know I certainly did (and it was totally unplanned). Congrats on the poetry! I know I have been enjoying what I've been seeing on Istagram. I like to keep my reading goals low so I can surprise myself when I surpass it. This is totally cheating though. Anywho… glad to see you back and I look forward to reading your posts!

  • Oh you're back I'm so happy! I hope you had some nice holidays and I wish you a happy new year! A lot of wonderful things for you in 2014! I'm also very happy for your poems, it's a wonderful news and I hope everything will be fine. But I can understand it's scaring… Well I think you deserve it, your poems are really great.

  • Glad to see you back! And congratulations on the poetry, I had no idea you wrote! Good luck on the publication, I really hope you make it. And don't be scared, I'm sure you'll feel awesome to see your work being published πŸ™‚
Sorry you didn't make your reading goal (so close!) but hopefully this year you will.
Happy New Year and I'm looking forward to new posts from you, Joy <3

  • That is so exciting, Joy…Congratulations! I'm sure it's nerve-wracking as well, but remember that they sought you out for a reason.

I first went to Disney World at 8. Of course, at that age, it was magical, wonderful, and all that crap. The last time I went was about 6 or 7 years ago, and everything looked old and dirty. I don't know if it's always been that way, or if it just has not been kept up well. It's a shame that you and your family didn't enjoy it; I wonder if it's deteriorated even more.

Anyway, welcome back, and here's to a great 2014!

  • Woah that's awesome about the poetry thing! I hope everything goes well! It's good to see you back, I was worried you had just quit blogging out of the blue. As for the challenge, it's only January 3rd and you've already read 2 books, you're well on your way to your goal! Don't worry about not meeting last years, 147 books is just as good! Happy New Year!

  • I was starting to get worried when I didn't see any new posts from you, so I had to stalk you on Goodreads to make sure you were still around πŸ˜€ I'm glad to see you posting again. That stinks about your vacation. You should take a vacay down here to California and visit my area. You'll get to see tons of cows and crops. lol. And holy crap, that's GREAT news about your poems! I love the ones you've shared with us. Happy New Year, Joy!

  • Welcome back, Joy, and I'm so excited to hear the news about your poems! I have faith in you, you're going to do great. Three books short of your reading goal doesn't even count. You did great, especially with the creative outburtst and everything else that's been going on.
Again, it's so good to see you blogging again.

  • HEY! Why did you leave me?! Grrrr. Just kidding. <3 Hope you'll start blogging more again πŸ™‚ But I understand that you needed a break. Break is good. Anyway. Aw. I'm sorry that Orlando was so awful for you guys πŸ™ I was there the summer of 2012 with my mom, and, well. It wasn't that awesome for us either, hih. Disney World was just so damn hot in July and TOO many people and long long long time to wait and waaay too expensive, like you said. But at least we have tried it, right? πŸ™‚ Anyway. Happy New Year. <3 Hope you'll have an awesome 2014 πŸ™‚

  • Welcome back and congrats on the invite for submission

  • The only time a poem of mine was read was when I was in elementary, when someone submitted my work to our school newspaper without my knowledge! It was embarrassing, but after a while I felt like I accomplished something. Good luck on your submission! Happy New Year!
