Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 93

Hello readers!

Welcome to another one of these posts. This week has been quiet on the blog – still trying to find my rhythm with reading. I mentioned on one of my reviews that I’ve been losing my appetite for YA lately and at the same time, I’m having no luck with other genres as well. I wish I’d get over it soon because my pile just keeps on growing.
I bought four books this week that I bought purely for collection’s sake. I’ve read A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens back in high school but I wanted to get the Penguin Classic edition.
I also picked up some collector’s edition copies of The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R Tolkien. They look so lovely.
And then of course, the wonderful book penned by the collaborative efforts of JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst. If you missed it, here’s my gushing post about this book.

The rest of the books this week:

So I have no clue why I picked a Bukowski book. I haven’t read any of his work. I think it might have to do with trying out all other genres (this case, classics) to see if I can break away from this crushing slump.

The Elementals by Francesca Lia Block is new to me. I have no clue what it’s about but the name’s familiarity made me pick it up.

Sorta Like a Rock Star by Matthew Quick was on sale for $5 so I picked it up.

I must admit, I’m sort of curious about Captive. It’s Erotica so it’s not such a hard sell by any stretch. It’s set in the world of Nightshade which was a series that frustrated the heck out of me. Hoping this book would  change my opinion about it.

Anyway, have a great week, everyone. Leave me a link so I can visit your hauls this week. 🙂

  • I love Penguin's classics! And I love this edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, they are so pretty!

  • Reading slumps are never fun. Hope you find something to break it.

  • The Lord of the Rings collector editions are beautiful!! I really want to pick up a copy of Captive!! Evie (Bookish) read it and she is not one for erotica and she liked it so I have really high hopes for it. Great book picks this week.
Thanks for visiting my post this week and I feel like our hauls were reversed lol

  • I absolutely adore those LotR books! My hubby is such a Tolkien nerd–I'll have to see if I can find those for him. I've only read Silver Linings, but I've been meaning to read more by Mr. Quick. I hope you find your way out of the slump soon. I think we all go through them. I went through the worst slump ever a few months ago, but it passed soon enough (although it felt like forever at the time). I'm sure you'll find something that snaps you out of it soon. Sending lovely thoughts your way. 🙂

  • The S book sounds really interesting.
    happy reading.

  • You need insurance for ur book collection alone lol

  • Those books are just way too fantasy-heavy for me. I bought them in case my kids want to read them when they get older. It definitely should be a prerequisite at school, though. 😉

  • Omg I really need to read the LotR trilogy! Hopefully I find time over December break. Those hardcovers are so pretty <3
    Thanks for stopping by!

  • Oh okay. I figure he would be too literary for my taste. Lol.

  • They sure are , Maja. I don't know why I've resisted for so long. 🙂

  • I picked them up from my bookstore. But I'm sure Amazon would have them.

Ahh! That's why his name's familiar. I have that book somewhere. Must read soon. 🙂

  • I remember reading one of Charles Bukowski books YEARS ago … like at least 16+ years ago. But I can't remember which one! I'm pretty sure I liked it, though. lol.

  • My friend Flannery brought these Penguin Classics editions to my attention and I've been pining for them ever since. I will have to make my own collection sooner or later, they are just too gorgeous to resist.
    Enjoy your reads!

  • Those collector LOTR books are beautiful, I'd be afraid to touch them. Can I ask where you bought them?

So far, I've only read Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick – it left me wanting to read more from him.

Hope you break out of your reading slump soon!

  • Thanks, Brandi! You too. 🙂

  • Collector's editions seem awesome. Happy reading and have a great week.

  • Aren't they, though? I just love how pretty they are!

  • I will not be reading them as well. I just love them for their looks. Shallow reader, much? Lol.

  • Thanks, Carina. Eh, it happens to the best of us. 🙂

  • LOL. So are mine's, Grace. I can't resist them though! They're so lovely. 😉

  • I just commented on one of the blogs I follow that I wanted to make the jump to crime fiction. Here's hoping I'll be able to find some good ones. Thanks for following! 🙂

  • Thanks, Melliane. I don't know much about these books as well, oddly enough. But I'll try to give it justice. 🙂

  • OMG. Love your Dante copy! I need to find me a copy of that!

  • I haven't read the trilogy as well but my hubs and I are huge fans of the movies. I just love it for aesthetic purposes. Is that bad? Lol.

  • Thanks, Ro!

  • The Lord of the Rings books look so pretty for the shelf. I won't be reading them though. I tried and they're overly descriptive for my tastes. Loved the movies, though! Enjoy your reads, Joy! 🙂

  • Aw, I'm sorry you haven't been able to read much lately. Hopefully it will change soon 🙂 You got some really pretty books this week. I really hope you will love them Joy. <3

  • Those Collector Editions are very pretty. I like seeing them, but right now my shelves are overflowing. Come visit me as well.

    Books of Love

  • Wow those collection and Penguin editions are so pretty, I would definitely splurge on those too. I've also heard some great things about Sorta Like a Rock Star, also $5 is a great bargain! Enjoy your pretties Joy! 🙂

  • Those books are gorgeous!

I've recently fallen out of love with YA too. My current obsession is crime fiction, although it seems a rather strange leap.

  • that's nice I didn't know these ones but like always I'll keep an eye on your reviews. Happy reading!

  • OMG you have those penguin hardbacks too! I just bought one of Inferno which came in this week, check it out on my STS hehe. Those LOTR books look awesome too.

    Here's my STS this week.

  • Ooh, that's certainly an interesting variety of books! I'm absolutely obsessed with Penguin's classics like that! I only have one–Les Miserables–but I swear every time I see one I pick it up and just stare at it for a full minute. And those LoTR are beautiful as well! I admit I've not read the trilogy, though I've read The Hobbit twice. That counts for something, right? 🙂

    Happy reading! 🙂

  • Happy reading. ___^
