The Coolest Fucking Book I HAVEN’T Read.

Thursday night is the night I usually go to the bookstore. Yesterday, even before I left for work in the morning, I’ve already decided that I’m staying away from Teen Section no matter what. I went straight to Fiction/Literature in search of some Penguin Classics that I’ve slowly started collecting. I only picked up one, in case you wanted to know.

Anyway, I saw this book. It’s got it’s own box. It’s hardcover and it looks like one of those collector’s items. It’s a fairly recent release so I can’t believe I’ve missed it on my many a bookstore jaunts.
This book. God. I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful and unique and precious it looks! The pictures I’m about to show you couldn’t give it justice. If you’re a true blue book lover, you have got to pick this up! You might not be a reader of the genre but for your sake, you really need to hold this in the palm of your hands. The sight of it is just…I can’t even describe it. Sorry for subpar quality of the pictures. I took these at night using artificial light so they’re meh (technical term for it sucks).
It comes in its own box.
This is what it looks like. Wait till I show you the inside!
It has that aged look and the pages are peppered with little notes from a couple of supposed readers. It’s so cool. The best thing about it? It. Smells. Old.
It also has inserts of postcards from Brazil. There’s more at the bottom.

This map of campus tunnels drawn on a coffee house table napkin.

More postcards from Brazil.

This newspaper.

This telegram.

This compass at the back and of course the library check out log.
You guys, you really should pick up a copy. If you’re a fan of fantasy/adventures with a twist, you might even like this book. I know I can’t wait to read it. But you really should get it because of how perfect it is. It’s…I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve been gushing about it to everyone who’d listen in my household to the point that I got a simultaneous, “WE KNOW!!”and I just can’t wait to talk about it to anyone. I thought I’d take it to the right people, meaning all of you, of course. 🙂
I can’t wait to talk about this with someone!
  • I just saw this in Entertainment Weekly (they LOVE J.J Abrams). I'll definitely check this out. I wonder if my library has a copy…Thanks for featuring it. It does look ah-maz-ing!

  • Cool book! I just saw the Book trailer: S , I thought it was a movie trailer the first time I saw it. I´ll be waiting to read your thoughts about this book.

  • That IS cool! I was wondering why there was a library indexing sticker on the binding, but going down through the photos I understand why. The whole book it self is a damn adventure. Sweet!

  • Wow — hadn't heard of this — big JJ Abrams fan so I definitely want to check it out!

  • Oh wow, this looks awesome!

  • I don't even know what this book is about – but I want it! That is SO cool. I love those little notes and the postcards and clippings that come with it. It must make for a really special reading experience. And it has its own box! Amazing. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing, Joy!

  • you're right it must be a wonderful discovery, like something shared many persons to guve you a bit of themselves.

  • Aw, it looks awesome 😀 I'm glad you found this book. <3 I adore pretty looking books. Love the pictures. Thank you for sharing Joy 🙂 Hope you will enjoy reading it as well. <3

  • I have been wanting to read this ever since I first heard about it. In fact, it's “in transit” to me from my library right now. I knew there were some goodies inside the box, but I had not seen any photos until now, so thank you! I can't wait to hear what you think about it.

By the way, a book (although book probably isn't the right word – it's more like a collection of little pieces of art) that's in a similar format to S. is “Building Stories” by Chris Ware. I loved it. It's not a mystery like S., but it tells a story through various pieces, just like. S. Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Building-Stories-Chris-Ware/dp/0375424334/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383923074&sr=8-1&keywords=building+stories
